Hope this helps-I have today sent 4 e-mails to reclaim unfair charges 2 for open accounts and 2 for closed accounts.
  • I'm claiming back my charges from Capital One and Barclaycard.

Sent the 1st letter some weeks ago. Barclaycard coughed up £90 straight away. The total with them was for nearly £400 (inc interest). Capital One left it right til the last minute and sent me a letter offering £56 (they also owe me nearly £400 inc interest).

I sent the second letters off two weeks ago and as yet Capital One haven't moved at all - I've heard nothing and Barclaycard wrote to me at the beginning of the week saying that they would investigate and let me know the result by 6 October. Should I wait patiently with Barclaycard and will they pay out on that date? Or is it just a stall tactic and will I have to take them to court or FOS anyway?

I'm expecting to have to take Capital One to FOS anyway judging by what everyone else has said.

I have offered them a lower payment if they want to take it, in the interests of getting something back with very little hassle.

    What do you all think?

I have successfully claimed back two sets of Barclaycard charges (mine and my husbands) Mine £700+ husbands 900+ and Capital one, they have paid off what I owe them and sending me a cheque for rest total £400ish - so i would send a second letter, I didnt need to go to FOS with either, only Monument (owned by Barclays) still with FOS at moment - good luck

  • Hi everyone,
Right I sent off a request to rbs for £323 including interest. I received a cheque today for £96 ( the difference between £12 and what I was charged). I'm going to write a second letter to request the full amount. Is it wise to cash the cheque in part settlement, or should I return it to them. What do you reckon?
    Thanks
    Suzanne
  • Apologies, I haven't trawled through all 48 pages of responses to see if this has been answered.

The credit card companies ususlly take 3 or 4 days to register a payment. I appreciate that when paying by cheque there is a time to clear the cheque or BACS transfer.

What really gets my goat is that some banks (Natwest, Co-Op are two I can think of) when I pay in cash to a branch of the card issuing bank on, or a day or two before the cards due date will levy a late payment charge despite the fact that they payment is in their account (and cleared as its cash) by the due date.

Does anyone know if charges (usually £12.00 nowadays) can be claimed back in these circumstances?

    Cheers
    Andy

  • I just want to say thanks very much to the advice regarding reclaiming credit card charges.

Two months ago I started the process and calculated £510.63 in compensation.

I took the advice and I was offered £150 as a final settlement. Let me tell you..........I stuck my neck out and went for the full amount threatening Court action.........What do you think.........yes they paid out in full (including interest!!)

For others thinking of which way to jump, I took the risk and it paid off......many thanks to Martin (oh yes and Alliance and Leicester Credit Cards)

Yippee I got my cash back

  • Hi, first post, so please forgive me if this is in the wrong forum but as you will see when you read on it does relate to reclaiming credit card charges but is a little out of the ordinary.

Ok as I am posting in here I obviously want to reclaim my charges but I am also looking into making a claim on the same credit card with regards to an ex partner using my card without my consent, so a fraud claim.

Now I am unsure if I should go ahead with the claim of charges first, or the claim for fraud (which I would think will take a lot longer).

Any advice on this? I am about to post about the fraud bit in the credit card forum for advice also as I don't feel it this is the right forum for that.

    Anyway thanks for you time.

    Well no surprise
    got letter from Goldfish today
the offer is the difference between the old charges and the new charges = 160.00
they say its their only offer I just have to send the acceptance letter back and they will send a cheque for 160.00
If I disagree they will send their final response letter stating I will have to deal with it through FOS
knew it wasnt going to be easy - so its another letter to Goldfish along with all the empty envelopes received in my SAR.
    What do you think?
still fighting for my money !!!
