I wrote to Barclaycard to reclaim £450.30 charges including interest.

They have written back offering only the difference between charges that I have incurred with the current £12 fee, amounting to £136.00 plus 8 per cent interest.
They have said it will be credited to my next statement.

I want to try for the full amount though. What is the next step I should take? Is there a template letter for this? They say I am eligible to take it to the Financial Ombudsman, is this the right time to do so.

    Many thanks
    C

I experienced a similar response to your letter when dealing with Barclaycard in February 2007. I claimed £409, they offered £145 the difference between £12 and the charges actually incurred. Bearing in mind that my claim was from January 2001 onwards and the OFT 'ruling' was in April 2006 (?) their
offer was laughable. I eventually had the last laugh as County Court action
was commenced, their defence was pathetic and then I had the usual, as an
offer of goodwill we will credit your account with my original claim of £409 +
interest of £120.56 although it was almost five months before the money was in my account.

From what I have read recently the FOS are inundated with PPI claims etc.,
so a threat of County Court action might speed matters along, but, certainly don't accept any amount less than what you were actually charged.
  • Just a quick question. whilst going through old credit card statements for reclaiming procedure i've noticed that my account numbers now are different to when i opened them, due i think to having them replaced after a theft.
i just want to clarify that if i put the current account number into the 1st letter template requesting charge info that it will trace card back to original start date and not just replacement card. Thanks

    Dear All,

Firstly to say fantastic...I have so far received £1197 and £1346 both from MBNA which is payment in full of my 2 claims.

Cap 1 - I am claiming £556 + 100 in interest charges and have done the letter route and they have offered £146.
I then threatened cc proceeding, and received a letter from them stating £146 was final offer?
What should I do now? accept or fight on?

    Goldfish - Claiming £396 + £86 interest.....they have offered £120
    Fight or accept

I guess what I am asking is, has anybody managed to claim all there charges back from Goldfish and Cap 1 yet by taking out CC proceeding....or should I just accept and be thankful?

    Many thanks, Paul.
  • Hi new here, just wanted to see if i could get some advice, (sorry if this is the wrong topic). I'm currently looking to reclaim charges on my Halifax visa (that i got as a student)

current balance approx 350 (limit 350)

i've had the letter back listing my charges and if i total it all up and work out what i can claim i get:

approx 850 (which is all the charges + 8% interest)
approx 500 (which is just the charges that were over 12 quid)
or approx 350 (which is only the amounts over 12 without any interest)

I'm not sure what to ask for as I'm not particular greedy but want it over with quickly and don't want to get jerked by the bank, (they've done that pretty royally already) so my current thinking is to ask for 500 and then accept the offer if it isn't stupid.

Just wanted to know if anyone knew how Halifax handle this stuff if i can get the full amount obviously that would be nice but if i can clear it off with perhaps change for a couple of beers then that would also be rosy.

Also considering that i have never spent a penny over the limit on this card (350) and when i finally started paying it back (3 months ago) it was 1000 is there any way to get the interest they have charged ontop of my charges back?

sorry for the uber long post, thanks in advance for any help
  • Hello

I wrote to Barclaycard on 16th May asking for statements - they wrote back asking for £10 fee which I sent to them and they cashed it on 17th June - I haven't from them since. The 40 days was up on Wed 25th June from the date of my first letter.

Should I write to them again or wait a little longer for my statements to come through?

I haven't asked them for any money back yet!

    Please help!!
Barclaycard PPI £274.84: Currently with FOS
Barclaycard Fees £226.87: Still being hit with overlimit fees due to BC lowering limit
    MINT £101.61: Accepted offer for £95.05! 17/08/08 :T
Abbey: Waiting for list of charges
  • Right basically i have tried to claim back my unfair charges from Mbna and it should've been 412.00 have had a reply today with the offer of 92.00 to reduce all my fees to the reduced level of 12.00.

Do i except this or if not what should i say or do next to get the rest back?? Could really do with the other money...as it is mne afterall!!

    Thank in advance Joe

    Hi
I have just claimed and received from Halifax Visa all my charges plus interest - total £211.21. This included all the charges even those at £12.
The total amount will be credited to my account which is fine by me as I am gradually paying off the balance anyway. The whole process took about 2 months.
I think the way to take this is 'what will you be happy with' and go with that.

    Good luck!

    Hi All :p

I wrote to Egg to claim £124.86 (incl interest). They wrote back saying No deal, charges are fair etc. So I wrote to them again and they have now written to me offering £124.86 but only if paid to my credit card. I defaulted on the card a while ago and am still paying off the o/s balance. I had requested any monies owed be sent via cheque or bacs. Do I have to have it credited to my credit card?
