I don't have a card anymore (the account's overdrawn), that's what I'm saying. I'll never see the money. They are basically giving it to themselves. I know it's coming off what I owe them but I'm paying that off anyway!!

Ah, that puts a different complexion on it, wendywitch. At least they've saved you the trouble of paying off the debt yourself. And you're still better off.
However hard up you are, never accept loans from your friends. Just gifts

I'be been caught by the £12 fee a couple of times (Sainsbury card), usually for being extremely small amounts (pence or < £20) over the credit limit for a short period. This happened because I was taking advantage of a 9 month interest free on purchases offer. Of course, I ran the card up to close to the limit. But then a delayed item came through i.e. I had authorised it in a previous month, for some reason the charity concerned didn't collect for 6 weeks. So the saving on keeping my money earning interest in a svaings account till I needed to repay the full balance was eroded.

It's a real rip off to charge fees like that without any warning. Credit card companies earn merchants' fees on every transaction, I never defaulted on a payment (which would be reasonable to charge for, I think).

    Excuse me, "without any warning"?

I'm sorry to sound like the opposition, but the warning is in the terms and conditons you sign up to before you get to spend 1p, and on every statement you get.

We may be arguing the amount that's charged, and possibily the aggression with which the rules are applied, but please don't wine because you signed up to rules without reading them.
  • I challenged their charges when they took me to court...neither party turned up & the court threw out their default case. The card bill went away with the case>>
  • I am currently re-claiming natwest credit card charges totalling £323 this is made up of 11 £20 charges the rest is £12 charges and interest.I recieved an offer of £88 -the difference between the £20 and the £12.I sent back the *accept without prejudice* letter.Today i recieved a phone call from natwest credit cards telling me that £88 pounds has been credited to my account along with a futher £7 interest, the lady said that this was all they were prepared to do.Any advice on what to do next would be greatly appreciated.

You sound just like my mum! :D

I guess I have to think of it that way (worse luck, kind of spent it in my head).
I've paid off £798.86 of my debt and it only cost me £20

i virtually got a no way too. tried claiming £296 and they offered £88! very generous. after i declined still asking for the full amount they told me £88 is all i'm getting and i shouldn't waste the courts time. NICE!! so i too have reported to the FOS.
