  • Hi all, i'm new to all this so please bear with me. My question is, can i reclaim unfair credit card charges on accounts approx 4-5 years old, all closed, i don't have the account numbers, all i keep getting are threatening letters from debt recovery firms, do i contact the debt recovery firms? or the credit card companies? i don't actually want any money back of the credit card companies, i just want the debt guys off my back, it would be nice to be able to answer the phone in the evenings once again lol, i make light of it, but in actual fact it's a nightmare, my credit score is zero, and i have realised that this is because of unfair charges in the past. any help would be most appreciated.

brickman im sorry i cant help specifically with your request as it is all new to me this reclaiming business lol but i have been where you are and my husband has been where you are it is not a nice place so i just wanted to say i hope things work out for you. Have you tried the debt free wannabe board? Its fantastic and they have some really clever ways to raise money and reduce your debt.

Sorry i digress, I would contact the credit card companies. If you give them your details (name, address, dob, etc) they may still be able to find you. Failing that contact the debt collection agencies and see if they have any ideas as to your account numbers etc. Sorry i cant be of more help.

Is it possible to claim when in an IVA? or is this not wise?

I had a Yorkshire Bank account, and a loan with them, many years ago.

They were so incredibly snotty the first time I had a slight problem, then followed it up by being truly horrible when things got bad, that I swore that once I'd paid them off, I would never, ever, have dealings with them again.

Happily I went on to do just that!

(so I've debt problems with other providers, instead.......!)

Don't worry, they haven't given themselves the money, they've given it to you but in an inconvenient form.

At worst, you'll have to use the card until the balance is exhausted. But give them a ring. I'm not sure what your legal standing is, but I would expect them to send it to you in the circumstances. I hope someone else can be more definitive on your rights here.

I don't have a card anymore (the account's overdrawn), that's what I'm saying. I'll never see the money. They are basically giving it to themselves. I know it's coming off what I owe them but I'm paying that off anyway!!

I would like to start the process of reclaiming charges on my Lloyds TSB credit card but I'm unsure of the address to send my SAR letter to. So far I've found two possible addresses:

    Swallow House
    10 Swallow Street
    Birmingham
    B1 2AL

    and

    25 GRESHAM STREET
    LONDON
    EC2V 7HN

can anyone confirm which address I should be sending it too?

    Many thanks

I sent mine to Swallow House and got a reply if that's any help.

    help....first post.

I have written a letter to MBNA claiming back £1005 in charges and £192.14 in interest, and have just received a letter from them offering me a goodwill payment of £169!

To me this doesnt even cover the interest they have charged me...what shoudl I do now, or should I just accept and move on?

Personally, I wouldn't except that BUT IT IS TOTALLY UP TO YOU.
I would carry on with claiming, follow Martin's advice and template letters.
But as I said it is totally up to you, no one can answer that for you.
