Hi, I moved to France 4 years ago and closed most of my credit card accounts, can anyone tell me if I can still claim back charges on these accounts even though I have moved to a different country.

Don't know of any reason why not, but I have no financial background. If it were me, I'd still give it a go. Send the letters, you never know!

I've been reading through the threads (a lot!), and haven't noticed if people have differentiated between interest charged by the CC company, and interest that a court would award.

I would have thought, that as any late payment charges etc. get charged to your account, and you then get charged interest on that, then you want to claim for that too, because if they hadn't have charged you, would wouldn't have had to pay that extra (compounded) interest! Which after all, makes your bill worse.

i.e I worked out that £80.46 would rise to £92.16 after 1 year at a rate of 1.2408% per month. (was working out stuff re. Balance Transfers - but that's another thread!)

So, when I make my calculations, I'm thinking I should add interest for each charge at a rate of 2.3% a month compounded, from the date they made the charge until now. Then tell them I want the 8% on top of that.

    Right?
    :)

There would be no reason why you couldn't on that basis alone.

    Right?

Of course that would mean that a £25 applied 6 years ago would now be £122! :rotfl:
Maybe it would be better to do it on a yearly basis? 12 x 2.23 = 26.76% APR
That would turn the £25 into £103! :rolleyes2

    Any ideas?

  • I need some help. I wrote to Egg Credit Card using the template provided and was sent back a form to fill out and a covering letter which reads:

    Dear Mr xxxxxxxx
Thank you for your recent request for info relating to your Egg Account/s. There are 3 ways we can provide this info to you (explained on attached form), & to help us to ensure we give you what you need; we need you to complete the attached form and return it to us.
Once we have received your completed form, and cheque we will send the info as soon as we can.

3 options on the attached form:

option 1: A complete list of transactions including charges for my account.

option 2: Copies of my original statements for my account.

option 3: A complete Data Subject Information Request (DSIR).

All I want to do is reclaim my charges and if possible my credit card payment protection. Which option do I need from the above 3, can I reclaim for anything else?
I really don't know what I'm doing, is it usual to be sent a form to fill in? Can some kind soul help as I feel like giving up!

    Many thanks.
  • OMG I didn't know you could still do this! Yay, will give it a go. Thanks!

  • Hi all

A quick question, 1 of my credit cards has written offerering a ridiculously low amount which I am refusing. They offered the amount to be paid onto my account.
If they were to make a satisfactory offer, do I have to have it paid onto my account, or can I ask for a cheque instead?
I have been left in severe debt due to all the charges placed on various cards so I would need the money in my bank account in order to pay bills etc. Anyone know where I stand on this matter?
  • Capitol One, how are they at paying back charges.

I have had a card with them for 4-5 years now, some years no charges at all but there must be 3 years with charges (have read Martin's advice) regarding writing off to them, Can I claim or has anyone claimed back the £12 charge as i'm not sure whether I can or not , or if anyone has and it worked I will deffinitely try..

Also I will be writing off for all my years recorded with them must be 5 years at least. So I should be able to see if there is anything over £12.
  • I have around £600 of charges on my halifax credit card in the last 6 years. I want/need dearly to reclaim these charges. I am worried that they will close my account/card. If that happens, does it mean they are entitled to immediate repayment of the amount I owe on the card. Is that what they do, or can you just keep paying off the card monthly when it has been closed? I also have an overdraft with a current account with halifax. Would they close that also, if I was applying for charges back on my credit card?
