  • It doesn't include the majority of credit card providers. I would agree with you that it is accurate but there is a need for more providers on their list.

Simple solution......Use the 'SAYNOTO0870' website at http://www.saynoto0870.com/ to find the credit card company's freephone number, phone them and ask for freepost address for their credit card customer services department, CEO, etc. and/or ask for the email address of their customer services dept, CEO, etc.

Another solution is to do a google search for the credit card company website and look under their 'contact us' section for email addresses and freepost addresses.

In this day and age of electronic communication, people shouldn't have to pay for postage with regards complaints raised with any company. I have used the above tactcis for complaints raised against banks, building societies, car leasing companies, telecom companies, train companies, etc. and I have never paid any postage costs. The only time, that I pay for postage costs, is when I escalate my complaints to the FOS. Even then, I only post them a signed copy of my complaint form. All other documentational evidence is then forwarded to them via email.
  • Hi, hope I'm not in the wrong place, but I wanted to hear from anyone who had actually appeared in court to reclaim credit card fees. I am in dispute with barclaycard on behalf of my Dad over PPI (he's self-employed and has a pre-exisiting medical condition) and late fees. They have written to me several times promising a response by a certain date but failed to deliver, so I filed through Moneyclaim and they have indicated that they will defend.
Had identical claims against Sainbsburys (£1100) and Abbey (£2300) who both paid in full after I rejected a partial offer, but Barclaycard are just being awkward. The amount is about £1200.
Anyone know of anyone who has gone all the way with court action?

Hi I have approached the Royal Bank of Scotland and asked them for just over £300 in charges but that was the full amount of the over charge rather than taking in to account a basic £12 charge. I therefore did not expect them to pay it really and felt that half that amount was a true reflection of what was owed. They have offered me £138 and I am happy with that as I feel it is fair. They have also returned my cheque for £10 and have been prompt and polite throughout. The only thing that as I am paying off the card and still have a balance outstanding they have told me they will be putting that amount against the sum owed. Can they do that? I was going to tell them to do it anyway but I would rather have had the choice. I have not yet sent the acceptance letter so would like to hear anybody elses thoughts on this

I received partial offers (difference between £25 and £12 fees) from both Sainsburys (HBOS) and Abbey (MBNA). I rejected them both and they almost immediately offered the full amount with the 8% interest I asked for. So reject it, ask for 8% from the date the charge was applied.
Doesn't work with all, Barclaycard has proved far more difficult, but worth a try.
  • Hi I'm new to the forum, and I've recently been refunded bank charges and PPI fees. Yay!! I want to try and get my credit card charges back now and wondered if it's more difficult?
All my credit cards except one have gone hundreds over the limit mainly because of charges, all defaulted, and all but one are with debt collection agancies. I am in a debt management plan and they are all getting monthly payments from me now. Part of the reason my debt got so out of hand was due to these charges. My cards are Egg, Mint, Halifax, and Virgin, do you think I'll have any luck??
    Grateful for any advice :D
    Steph

    Hi Steph,

You should have no probs. Just follow MSE's guide for reclaiming credit card costs at http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/credit-card-charges. It worked for me and many others on this forum.

If you get any probs from the banks, etc. just ask for advise on this forum.

    Fingers crossed and good luck.
  • does the payments on a credit card have to be up to date on the account before you can reclaim past charges?

    thanks
  • Hi Everyone!

I had written my letter back in Dec 09 to reclaim credit card charges of £854 to HSBC, they wrote back refusing to repay. As it was xmas, i thought I would send a 2nd letter afterwards, hadnt got around to it and last week had received a letter from DG solicitors saying they will send someone round, so, I thought I must send that letter over this weekend. Well this morning, after still not doing 2nd letter, I received an offer of £1035 from HSBC credit card!! Work that one out? Obviously I am going to accept, can I also ask that any default charges be removed?
  • Sorry, also I presume they will clear credit card and any money leftover will help clear my bank overdraft which I was disputing or will they refund any remaining money by cheque?

    Hi Everyone,

I have started requesting info from my CC today. Barclaycard actually wanted me to tell them what the reasoning behind my claiming was on the phone. Told them no, it would be done in writing.

Anyway, what I'm trying to find out, as I have huge debts on my CC, has anyone been asked to pay the full balance if you have been successful?

Sorry if it's been answered somewhere else on thread.

    Thanks.

  • Hi all,

    I need some advise.

A few months ago, I switched my current account from one bank to another.

Unfortunately, some of my direct debits weren't transferred properly and, as a consequence, they weren't paid in time. The companies involved did not charge me interest but I did have to make a number of phone calls to get it resolved. I guess it cost me less than £2-00 in total. I did advise the banks involved. I also know that my old bank was at fault.

My query is whether it is worth me escalating the above to the FOS in order get some money. If so, how much should I look to get ? can I request the bank for compensation due to their incompetence ? and I am also presuming that I should ask the bank for money before going to the FOS ?

Any advise would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

two years ago I began the process of reclaiming 5000 of bank charges and like most was put on hold. I have received a letter from the bank saying the recent test case provede they are right and I've no entitlement to a refund. The account in question is closed but I am in financial hardship and have 800 of mortgage arrears and reduced payment agreements with virtually all my creditors. During the cycle of repeated AND EXCESSIVE BANK CHARGES I took out extra borrowing and extended credit limits where possible to live! My argument is that many of these loans and agreements are still in place and had the bank been more supportive and not charged me every month (sometimes three or four charges which of course meant DDs unpaid and so charges there as well) I may not still be in financial hardship. From what i can gather the bank will still refuse and FOS will not look at case because the account was closed- is this right? Can i still try to reclaim?
