Thanks for the reply will give it a go but stress to them want payment to me not debt collector- one which happens to be a solicitors firm -never knew they collected debts
    good luck with HALIFAX
  • I have just had the same thing with an active, but no longer used HBOS account: they will not refund to me, rather to the card, where they have started to apply charges and interest all over again! It's like they want to see you suffer!
  • Re the above,I had a debt plan set up.The argument is all letters stated that the payment was made to me only.I even made this quite clear on the acceptance form.Either someone has altered this or they just ignored it.

I have asked for a copy.

I missed a £5 payment to Virgin during the 0% bt period (statement never arrived) and was stung for £49.70 in interest as well as the £12 fee. I also had to pay off the balance asap to avoid more interest charges (costing me a few quid to my bank).

If you make any late payments during a promotional period, many issuers will revoke the promotional rate and you will pay interest.

The only way I know of is to call them up, apologise and ask them to revert the interest rate back. If they refuse, you could threaten to close the account (and move the balance elsewhere if you cannot repay it). They will usually give you a second chance.

To prevent this happening in future, it may be a good idea to set up a Direct Debit to pay at least the minimum payment each month.
  • Hi there

I just wanted some advice please.

I incurred fee of 12 pounds in november as well as interest for making a so called "late payment" although I made it on the last date stated on my credit card statement. I paid it off in full too

Come this month I was charged in the same manner as above although I paid my amount off in full on the 19th via online banking, 6 days before the deadline (24th dec).

I always use online banking to pay off my card. On these two occasions I checked the option to make immediate payment. A personal baner at my bank said it still takes two days for it to get to where it needs to go.

I called up Mbna several times and they are adamant that I was late on both occassions. I even asked to speak to senior staff but they failed to get into contact with me when I was waiting their call for a whole day. They dutifully called 24 hours later when I wasn't around.

I can't accept this, especially the payment I made on 19th December! 6 Days before deadline!
Yet I still get penalised as it was holidays, I wonder if the computers that process payments take a holiday too?

So much for MBna's Christmas spirit.
  • The trouble here is it will take roughly 4 working days for the payment to reach your card company.

    The 19th was a wednesday.
  • Someone has asked the same question that I have but I'm not sure which answers were in response to which questions.

Can you claim back the £12 charges recieved after April 2006 now that they have been declared reasonable?

    Thanks in advance.
  • The choice is yours really, have a read of Martin's article here...

Thanks, nickmack. I cleared the whole balance asap, but I could approach them for a second transfer, maybe within the original period. Your advice re DDs is well taken - if the repayment had been more than £5 I would have spotted the omission.
