  • Hi this isn't credit card related but catalogue related. Does anyone know if you can claim against late charges against a catalogue account that's been closed recently?. Thanks

Did the account get closed by you or did it get closed by them?
Have any Debt Collection Agencies come sniffing round?
I would write to Barclays and ask for an explanation.
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009

hi it got closed by them in 2002 had letters from debt collectors but then it was referred back to barclays. just wondered why they would put these amounts down in nov 06 and have the balance showing as nil....
  • Ask them unless they were sending it back to debt collection...

ok thanks will do, but do think it is mistake by them that they have put down in error x she told me to send a copy of statement and high light the payments so they can look into it!!!!!;)
  • Hi All,

Still trying to work my way around the site so pls bear with me.
Have read most of the previous posts in this thread but please can anyone advise me......
My husband and I are registered with the CCCS and are about to embark on a DMP.
We both have Alliance & Leicester credit cards totalling almost 20K but about 6K of that are all the charges they kept piling on in the last year when they continued charging us overlimit fees/late payment fees/interest.
We wouldnt have gone overlimit if they stopped charging us.

Anyway, they did not accept our token payments so for hubby's credit card they went for the jugular and 'took' him to court. Luckily it was in our favour as the judge said he needed to continue paying £3 a month until the 12K is paid off. They have appealed and the hearing is in February.

With my credit card (approx 9K) again loads of charges etc, they havent gone down the same route with me just yet, they are cashing in the token payments and they know we are starting a DMP soon.

    Now my question, finally :j

With my husband's one is it ok to go ahead and reclaim the charges in the hope that they will take it off his debt, even though a CCJ has been filed against him?

With mine, is it ok to go ahead and reclaim the charges, again, in the hope that they will take it off the debt?

Many many thanks for the advice. Much appreciated.

Thank you so much to all posters
  • Reclaim every single charge from both cards since the time the account was opened and see how much that comes to firstly. If they take him to court in February then you can at least claim that some of the amount owed is in fact charges that are covered under the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contract Regulations 1999.

  • Many thanks, you have given me the confidence now to go ahead!
One more thing please if I may, I am pretty sure I have most, if not all the statements going back as much as 8 or 9 years. My husband is self employed so I always made sure I had at least the last 7 years of everything.
Should I dig out the statements, work out how much the charges add up to and then contact A & L or should I write to them and ask them to work it out? (reading this back this sounds like a naff question, I just want to be sure I am doing this the right way and the quickest way....if there is one of course! LOL)

    Many thanks again
