How are credit card charges refunded to you if your account is no longer open? Do they forward you the refunds via a cheque?

Yes in the main, although it is possible to get the refund via BACS. Cheque is the preferred way though.
If you see a penny, pick it up, all day long you'll have good luck !!!!!! :D
  • Hi all,

I'm new to this and am trying to reclaim around £1,100 from Halifax.

I sent them the letter from the site along with a list of charges I had accrued and asked for complete repayment plus interest. I received a letter from them on 20th July acknowledging my complaint and that they would resolve this in a max of 8 weeks, but would write to me within 4 weeks with an update.

Not suprisingly, it has now been 4 weeks since I got this letter and I have been sent a 4 week holding letter saying the matter will be resolved in the next 4 weeks.

I've got a feeling they are going to throw the complaint back at me and was wondering whether to sit tight and wait, or to be a bit more agressive with them.

    Any thoughts?

    Cheers

Classic complaint handling ie 56 days maximum timescale before you can take it to the FOS.

    Thanks for this natwest

Just got a reply from Halifax. They are offering me £325 as a goodwill offer. I'm not particuarly please with this and am going to write back requesting the full amount.

The only thing is, I am wondering whether to sign their form accepting the £325, as this may jepordaise my chances of getting the full amount back. The letter includes the wording 'I confirm that I accept the offer of £325 from Halifax in full and final settlement of my complaint regarding Credit Card charges on my Credit Card account'.

Will signing this mean I cant claim for the outstanding amount?

Thanks for all your help so far!
  • I wouldn't sign it if you want more.

ditto, .. you only sign if you accept....but i can see where you are coming from, you want to try for more but not risk losing what they have offered, im in the same boat.. they have offered me £125, but that is an insult, so i will gamble for more.. if i lose out, too bad, but £125 is just not what im after.....i would rather gamble £125 in the hope of gaining £600 more, if i lose, well, its money i never had, and wouldnt get anyway because it would go straight to my arrears...if i win more, i pay all arreares and have a few quid left for a couple of nights out......its worth the gamble for me...;)

  • is anyone else struggling with Egg?? I find that they are completely incompetent every single time i deal with them!

they took 109 days to send me my list of charges.

lost my complaint letter 4 times and finally replied saying continued use of my account will be taken as acceptance that their charges are fair!!

i asked for £404 and they offered me £16!!!!

    they are terrible!!! :(
I have found exactly the same with EGG, I had to wait for ages to get my statements and have now had to go to the FOS as my final letter sent to them threatening court action (thanks for all the templates on this site!:rotfl:) prompted a response of 'We REALLY don't care - please go to the ombudsman'.

I have done this and received a letter from the Ombudsman saying that they are extremely busy and it will be up to 2 months before they can deal with my case! To be honest I am fully expecting the Ombudsman to side with Egg because of the OFT giving them dispensation for their £16 charges, but if that IS the case, I WILL take them to court!

I am also going thru the same process with Cap 1, but am at the first request of charges stage. With my experience of the FOS relating to EGG, I think I will take them straight to court, or face waiting another 3/4 months for the FOS to hopefully sort it out!

ANYONE had success with EGG recently thru the Ombudsman?
