If you still owe money on a credit card do they credit your account or send you a cheque to pay into your bank account?

It is likely they will credit your account.

    Hi folks,

After a long drawn out fight to reclaim £500 from Barclaycard i've finally got an offer for full repayment. The trouble is that they have transfered the amount into my credit card account, which has left the card around £200 in credit!! However, my card was cancelled when i asked to set up a temporary repayment plan when I was out of work.

Does anybody know how i might be able to get my cash back? I cant spend it on the card as i no longer have it!

    Thanks in advance

You'll need to write to them and ask for the account to be finally closed and any monies in the account to be sent to you by cheque.
  • i posted this elsewhere but i think i should be in here...:o

i have a credit card which i pay the minimum balance to each month
( i know, i know, it's only till i am in the position to pay more)

anyway, i cancelled the card about 3 years ago, so the account is effectively closed, even tho i pay the minimum payment each month. if i reclaim the charges on my account, can the bank ask for the full balance to be paid?
i would gladly have the amount refunded taken off the balance :j

i don't have the money to pay it off at the moment tho
  • can i claim back my overlimit fees on my cc as well?

I sent a SAR to GE Capital back on 2 November via recorded delivery and I haven't heard anything back as yet. Is it normal for them to take so long? Should I be pestering them or just give it a bit longer?

If you get your information/statements within the next week you could be on Martin's new TV show, please read this thread ....

    Two quick questions,
Can I claim back charges when the card is one issued by my employer?
Can you claim back PPI type charges on credit cards?
No longer using this account for new posts from 2013
  • I sent my first letter just before christmas and got the usual letter back saying they would refund me the difference between the old charge of 20 and 12 so I would get a one off payment of 8 ( which dosn't even cover the cost of the cheque I sent them. I then followed the advice on here and sent the second letter. and have had another letter back stating exactly the same as the first - that they will pay me £8 and that is there final offer. I am only asking for just over £90 back, what should I do. I DO NOT WANT to go to court, so do I just leave it???? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
