    Amount they paid: £98

First letter sent early July, response received from "Ellie Renshaw" fobbing me off saying no payment is due. I sent second letter threatening court and offering to accept a lower payment (just the £84, no interest). They replied again still fobbing me off saying no payment. I went to the FOS who were excellent. They inititally received a response from Cap1 saying they wouldn't pay, but they contacted them again asking for an explanation and Cap1 finally relented. FOS inform me full payment should be due in the post sometime in the next couple of weeks.

Even relatively small claims are worth chasing!

  • Bank fees scam?

Just wanted to advise/warn you guys about a phone call I had the other day 01253757067 calling themselves Banking Solutions congratulating me on winning back my bank charges asking where I would like the money paid into. I replied that I hadn’t heard that the banks had given in and thought it was still subject to appeal. He pressed on saying that I had won back the charges and fees and asked where I wanted the money paid in to. I acted dumb (not hard to do!) and asked him to just pay it back into my bank account where the fees were taken. He carried on asking what bank, account no etc but obviously got bored and hung up - like we had been cut off. After a while as he didn’t call back, I phoned the number on my mobile call log (as above) and left a message for him to call as he was on another call. He never called back.

Looking at your web site I see the banks are still holding out so I presume this was just an opportunist trying to find out my details. I don’t know anything about this company but this guy was probably working for himself as the number was not hidden or withheld in any way. It’s a little disturbing that a) he knew I had claimed back my charges and b) that he had access to my mobile phone number. If this is a scam I think your readers should be warned

many other have been contacted as well.

I agree, would be very interesting to see how this company have obtained peoples personal contact details. I wonder what the common link is ? I suspect it may be as simple as an unscrupulous member of staff at your mobile phone company ?

But thanks for letting us know.
If you see a penny, pick it up, all day long you'll have good luck !!!!!! :D

Trying to go back for difference between 8% interest i asked for and the 27.9% they have charged me!
    Fingers Crossed!

£945.74 Asked for interest difference 8.0% and 27.9% on 09/09/09£945.74 Received on 22/09/09

  • Matrixds,
Did you just calculate the 27.9% as the APR on the card? Trying to do this with MBNA now....

    Thanks
Pay off as much as you can in 2011: £780/£8000
    Vouchers through surveys/shopandscan: £10/£250
    Ebay/Paypal target for 2011: £109/£1000
  • Yes Im also intrigued Matrixds. I would be very interested to see what kind of wording you used in your letters and how did you do the math ? This is fantastic, well done.

I worked it very simply - Card companies use compound interest - i used simple interest so you don't quite get all they charge you. Use the court interest calculator martin kindly set up on here which is 8% then find out your current rate if you know it. If not all statements tell you monthly interest eg: 2.0751% for mine. Go to - http://www.stoozing.com/mon2yr.htm to convert to yearly rate.
Mine came out at 27.9% so that is 3.4875 times the 8% so use that multiplication rate on all your interest to work nearer to what they charge you.

The letter substitute 'interest at the statutory rate, the amount the court will award.' for 'interest at the rate you have applied to my account'

Thats all i did! Hope it helps!

If you have already claimed and received and are trying for the extra interest i can send you a copy of my template letter if you request by private message.
