I shove a couple of chunky sliced parsnips and carrots, a couple of medium siced onions and some celery in the bottom of the SC - shove the brisket on top (some people prefer to brown their meat first but I don't think it makes much difference) and add what ever liquid you're using - I normally use red wine and some hot water with an oxo in it - top it up to about half way up the meat.
This gives you the veg underneat with the rest of the stock to use as a soup with any left over meat.
Be warned though - the meat does fall to bits but I've never had problem with it being chewy or leathery.
Hope that helps"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -

:hello: Good morning!
Well it's a miserable day here in London, gloomy and raining, but I've been to the gym so that's brightened my day. (That I've been and it's over, not the actual going:rotfl: )
Pink, I'm so glad you'd missed the link in Nelski's post to begin with. I read Shez's post saying the kitchen was looking good, and wondered how she knewFinally cottoned on!:o Yes Nelski, it's obviously coming along nicely. Always a good stage when you can actually recognise it is a kitchen:D I remember looking at mine (too many years ago now!!!!) when it was a gutted shell and fearing it would never be a kitchen again:rotfl:
Need to think about dinner. Something warm and comforting on a miserable day. Did a lovely cottage pie yesterday, it really went down a storm. Thinking some sort of casserole for tonight. I know I've got some lamb shanks lurking in the freezer, mmmmmm sounds good!
:bdaycake: Happy Birthday to penguin83 and LJM !! Hope you have lovely days!!
Congrats Heavenleigh on your perfect pink bump!
A laptop now catowen!! Really must try this competition lark myself! Well done!:T
((((((hugs)))))) to all the poorly ones and those with Doctor appointments. Seems I got away fairly lightly with the *thread cold*. Still coughing a bit, but seem to have *got rid* rather quicker than a lot of you.
Nearly forgot, Peem it was you knitting the *monkey* wasn't it? May I ask where you got the pattern from as my DS2 would love one! (He's married with 2 kids incidentally:rotfl: )
Off for a quick look round, then I will start some work, honestly:D
CMxx
Stefejb, if you need more washing I could supply some! Won't take but a minute to pack it up!!:DYou never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -
Good morning everyone
I've taken a page out of twink's book today (not literally!) and have made a note of some things that are happening to various people. So, here goes: -
Happy Birthday to Penguin83 and LJM. Hope you each have a lovely day.
Mioliere what a great idea - a second-hand Christmas. Very "green" - and much cheaper too I'll bet. :T
Heavenleigh congratulations on your news and the results too!
HHester are your employers legally allowed to make staff reapply for their own jobs when they reach 60? Smacks of ageism to me.
Amie Hallowe'en won't be celebrated in my house as XDH is taking DS and DD to see The Proclaimers that night and the only trick-or-treaters we get are 15yos who wear a 39p mask and expect to be given lots of free sweets.
Pen-Pin good news on the extra hours. Hope it makes a difference to your OH.
Ellie (((hugs))) for Friday and hope the meeting goes well tomorrow for you.
Catowen Well done on another win. :T As for the new LO - is the father likely to turn up unannounced? If so, I would explain to the mum why you feel you just can't help her out. Good luck with whatever you decide.
((((hugs)))) to mioliere, mrs mix, pooky and anyone else floored by these bugs doing the rounds. Mrs mix, I've had a sore throat on and off for the last month and every so often it flares up into earache but doesn't last more than a day. I wish it would just either go away completely or at least become full-blown so I can get it out of my system.
Busy day today. School finishes at 12.35pm today as there is an Open Night tonight. DS has an orthodontist appointment at 10.30 and is supposed to be getting his booster injection today too. Hope he doesn't miss it when he is out of school. The ortho appointment was booked during the summer holidays but if I had known it would an early finish I would have booked the app for the pm. DD is helping out tonight but the afternoon will be spent making maracas (sp?). Music project at school is to make a homemade musical instrument.
Need to make some macaroni cheese as the cheese in the fridge is looking very neglected. Lunch will be leftover hm soup.
Have a tremendous Tuesday. xx"Bad planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part."

Morning all, and little hugs all round,
Ellie I just wanted to do a quick message to say that the same thing happened to us, mortgage-wise, and we were a bit scared, cos our salaries have never been so good again as when we first bought the house.
We discovered that by staying with the same mortgage provider, but swapping to one of their much better rates, they didn't need to look at all the salary stuff, cos they had 3 yrs payment history from us, so they knew we could manage.
Or have you thought about a self-cert product?
I really hope that helps, so sorry it's stressful.:A

Slight hitch yesterday in that I seem to be missing a cupboard which they say is not on the plans - well it had better be because right now it looks stupid!! Also the very gorgeous sink I paid lots and lots for has arrived cracked and they are saying there are no more in the country:rolleyes: ah well it was all a bit too good to be true I guess.
Went for my 3.95 lunch yesterday so didnt need anything in the evening. Apparently the electitian is coming today so I may actually have access to my oven tonight. still if the worse comes to the worse at least I have access to my new wine rack:rotfl:
Got to do some work today  got to pay for this somehow i guess but I have enjoyed a bit of time off. Need to do some washing soon as well I am starting to reach those clothes we all have in our wardrobe which stay there for years- never get worn (for me cos they are too small) but you havent the heart to fling emmmm a declutter is in order soon me thinks (either that or serious surgery!!!)
Happy Birthday to Penguin and LJM hope you enjoy your days

Morning all,
Hope you don't mind me chipping in as I've not posted in ages:o
Right who's bright idea was it to get rid of MY car!!Heavy rain this morning so ended up drenched on the school run but DD thought it was fab jumping in & out of the big puddles in her red ladybird wellies.
Managed to bag a free hair cut yesturday at a new posh training school that has just opened and Iam well impressed, the trainee did a lovely job. I have a sort of 80's farrar fawcett majors layered, flicky sort of style, IYKWIM, and not alot fell out in the process which is an added bonus as I'm getting a bit fed up with the Kojac style.:rotfl:
Right off to have a browse and then to hunt for some waterproofs on ebay,
Take care

Catowen - thats a difficult one. As Anniebooklover said I would speak to the mum. My sister got away from someone similar to that, luckily she was at home to look after the kids. Hope it sorts out for you.0

Pouring with rain here and miserable and dark day.
Have had a long very hot shower and shampoo with original Source lime and it has woken me up -as has the mug of coffee I have just slurped!
Want to go to Boots to see if it is still triple points today to get some Christmas presents and hope DH might be able to give me a lift.
No idea what to make for tea - maybe a broccoli and cauliflower bake with home made potato wedges.
Happy birthday to both our birthday girls :bdaycake: :bdaycake:
Penny pincher
Please take all the help that you can get (as long as it does not upset you).
Hester
Sure this sounds like "ageism" - I could maybe see the sense of an interview to check people were still up to working, but not haveing to reapply completely!
Hugs to everyone - going to get some brekkie as tummy is rumbling!"This site is addictive!"
