i suppose its just the sort of stuff i buy and dont buy then.
veggies almost all come from own garden and get frozen. did find green cabbage 10p cheaper at lidls than tesco

milk i buy six pints with a week at least on useby date - works out at 44p/liter at tescos- its 47p per liter ( 4 pint carton ) with very short use by dates at my lidl
cheese - got irish cheddar at bogof at tescos
    double cream - 84p tescos - 89 p lidl
bananas - same price at both places
bleach - didnt have any at lidl
diet cola - tescos own = 44p for 2 liter bottle - lidls about 62p per bottle of diet pepsi ( i cant tell the difference as its used to mix with jack daniels lol )
    whole chicken at lidls - 3.20 - tescos 2 for £5

also needed thick carved ham, cooking apples and guiness which they didnt have at lidls

yup I think it was what you where buying. Lidl are fantastic for mny things and have some very good offers.
    They do great:
garlic and coriander naan that has a long shelf life
    tinned tomatoes
    strong bread flour
    tortilla wraps
    basic farmhouse loaves
    kids cereal
Fantastic coffee pods, better flavour than Kenco and Douwe
Veg is excellent when it's half price
    smoked ham
    cheese selection
    plain chocolate selection.

I'm lucky as I have a lidl right beside my tesco.

    Hi everyone,

As we already have a long thread on what's worth buying from Lidl, I have merged the two together to keep all the replies in one place. As always posts are listed in date order so you'll need to read from the beginning to see all the replies.

It might also help to have a look at Martins Article Lidl Aldi and Netto the lowdown which publishes the results of one of the recent 'Great Hunt' threads.

    We buy

chocolate, the 79p bars are really good, - too good in fact
ice cream - the half price offer (10 for £1.24) on ice cream cones is great particularly in the current weather but all the ones we've had have been great
    smoked salmon
cheese -particulalry the feta, brie and camembert
juices - we really like the grape, multi fruit with vitaimns and the vegetable (like V8 but nicer and nearly half the price), DS likes the little cartons of multi juices with vitamins
wine - they have Barolo, at £8.99, which I know is dear for a bottle of wine, but it is the best red wine I have ever had, and we only ever buy it for special occassions. The Barolo is at least £4 more expensive everywhere else I have seen it
yoghurts - big and small packs. The big ones, like the Onken ones, are really nice
dishwasher powder is good and at least a third cheaper than other supermarkets own brands

Has anyone tried the scampi? Is it better than Young's?

  • I haven't read all the posts so apologies if there's a repeat. I like their:

    Juices
    Chocolate-hazelnut spread
    Espresso coffee
    Peppermint tea
    Seeded rolls
    Mini stick ice cream
    Bread flour mix
    Tinned tomatoes
    Tinned kidney beans
    Olive and sunflower oils
    Dried herbs (various)
    Recycled loo paper

Have I missed out anything?!? :D

I find that most of the things made for the German market are brilliant quality

I agree totally! I lived in Germany and Lidl and Aldi are our equivilent to our supermarkets (Tescos etc). Although, I'd put them on a par with Sainsburys. I love shopping in Lidl and Aldi. It's good to be able to get ot both because one has cheaper brand names while the other is just good in total.

I'm a bit of an Aldi's freak!! :rotfl:

  • My OH is German :kisses3: (don't speak over the world cup!!) and LOVES Lidl. He sneaks in as many times as he can over the week! In Germany most people shop in Aldi and Lidl so the typically German foods should be good. He likes the cakes and buscuits, the Gluwein, all the salady things (eats it for breaky YUK!) including the fish salads, the chocolate and cold meats. He gets his foul house shoes there too they are £9 and leather (saw someone wearing them at work the other day!!;) )
Personally I find the place scary!!!
See you in Tescos following the yellow sticker man!!:T

Been to Lidl this morning for some nice bargains. Limes are reduced to 7 pence each. I've posted my recipe for Indian Lime Pickle in a separate thread. Today I took mr newleaf for his 'induction', but ended up having to pay because he didn't take a debit card (Pah!). Anyway, he seemed suitably impressed with the bargainous items on offer, but pointed out that some things - granulated sugar being one example - were actually quite dear compared to Tesco. (Fizzy water was another). He was well impressed with the booze aisle

    Hiya :)

I've added your question onto our thread about Lidls. Hopefully it will answer most of your questions.

    Good luck :)
