Whats Good Value At Lidls?

I go for the special offers at Lidl. Yesterday I got a great pair of sunglasses with 3 pairs of interchangeable lenses - for £2.50! I also got some great stuff for `Love in a box`( a charity which sends a christmas shoe box full of goodies to poor children in East European countries) In the past I`ve had some great stuff. I recently bought an `orbital sander` for £10 which seems to be very good quality. Oh, and some reading glasses in a neat little case for £2, the cheapest I`ve found so far.
I also buy the jam, it seems to have less sugar than english jams. Also none of the bakery products seem to have `hydrogenates` which are saturated fats, believed to contribute to obesity - maybe that`s why Europeans don`t have such a problem with obesity! My children also love the `choco duo` and `nut nougat` which is better than `nutella` and less than half the price, they also like the `ice lemon tea` which is only 70p for 2litres - miles cheaper than `liptons`.
Mind you, my twelve year old did remark that the goods come from further afield thus possibly contributing more to carbon emmissions!
What`s good about places like Lidl and Aldi is that they compete with the big stores who need to be brought back down to earth.
My brother lives in Berlin and was quite condescending about Lidl and says he will only shop at Aldi! I find Lidl a great shop and Aldi is too far anyway!0 -
I love their Gluhwein (sort of ready-made mulled wine) - great for Christmas (assuming any will be left!). Also love their biscuits, juice, muesli bars, toiletries and dishwashing tablets.0

I get the specials when I do go, and the red bull copy for DP, sometimes the sliced ham and the bacon medallions which my son loves.
As for the Carbon emmisions a lot of the stock is now produced in UK I am told, and who is to say how far goods in other supermarkets travel. One day I might be more organised...........

I did the shopping of a lifetime at Lidl yesterday...really stacked up on the basics. As i depend on lifts to and from there I grabbed the chance. I always have an on going list of what is required should the oppportunity arise. Spent a horendous (but given over flowing trolley, expected!) amount BUT am consolsated that this will keep me going for months! And knowing that to buy similar in Tesco would have been twice as much! My shelves are groaning.
I like.... the more I try the more I like! Dont think I have ever been dissapointed.0 -
I really like the preserved peppers large jar for around £1.25ish. Great to have in reserve but I like them in sandwiches, salads on pizzas and I save the jars and use them for bottling fruit later on.
Their large jars of stoned olives are good value too.
They do a 74% dark chocolate for about 60p that I like, sometimes they have their estate plain strong chocolates on offer as well. I didn't buy nearly enough last time. (if you need an excuse dark strong chocolate contains flavinols that reduce blood pressure)
I find Lidl's meat is good value esp if you pick up a short dated 30% off pack. Pork chops, chicken breasts have worked out very reasonable. Their beef burgers were better than I expected.
I often stock up on frozen veg when they are on offer. The ordinary veg is quite often reduced.
The whole salami's are good value.
Watch out for their Car Park sales, these are where they get rid of their surplus special offers. Great bargains to be had if you don't mind scrummaging a bit.My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

Lidl have a great festive offer going - two frozen goose breasts for £5.99. You get a lot of meat - did two of us an absolutely delicious roast dinner plus salad and sandwiches later. They also have whole geese for I think £12.99. Wish I had room in the freezer.
I'd recommend Lidl's packets of Parma ham and salami and the Parmesan. Our family didn't like the feta cheese - perhaps that's just us0
