    Hi gt568,

I think this may be the thread you are looking for, Whats Good Value At Lidls?

It might also help to have a look at Martins Article Lidl Aldi and Netto the lowdown which publishes the results of one of the recent 'Great Hunt' threads.

Haven't read through the whole thread so don't know if this has been mentioned!!
But Adritt Multi Purpose Stain Remover (Green Tub) is absolutly (SP) Brill !!
I have managed to remove stains that i couldn't before (trying every method)
and it is a lot cheaper than the main brand.

Just wondering (and sorry if I've missed it earlier on the thread...) has anybody come across the little "curry packs" which I think have only turned up very recently? They are little packs of chilli/lemongrass/ginger etc, costing 97p and they come in "Thai" or "Indian". For the Thai one you finely chop the ingredients, put them in a pan and add meat and a tin of coconut milk, and there's your curry - without having to source all the ingredients separately. The one thing it doesn't make clear (sorry, am a bit of a novice at cooking curry from scratch) is what sort of quantity it should make (i.e. how much meat to use/how many it serves). Any ideas? Am thinking of buying one early next week in order to use up a tin of coconut milk and some sticky rice!

I picked up the Thai packs last week as they are currently half price. I just chop the contents up with the whizzer blender, add a packet of quorn or two chopped chicken breast, add tin of coconut milk and that serves myself and my husband, with brown rice. Not tried the curry one.

They are definately worth trying, although a whole garlic bulb in the pack was a bit too much for us, so only used half.

Things I buy regularly from Lidl:
    • All their cereals. I find the choco flakes (roughly £0.99p), Fruit & Fibre (£0.95p) and All-In-One (£1.29) {which is very like Special K} especially good value.
    • Cereal bars for the kids' packed lunches (I think they work out at about £0.89 for a pk of 8)
    • Their frozen beef mince (the big packet) which is very low on excess fat.
    • Their Choco Softies (large marshmallows on a wafer base, covered in chocolate, which I think are £0.99p for 10; lovely with ice-cream!)
    • Their Luxury caramel shortcake (£0.89p for 4 slices)
    • Their packet custard (£0.29p a sachet, and tastes gorgeous)
    • Their pack of 4 yoghurts for £0.29p (my three kids seem to enjoy them).
    • Their packs of 3 fresh cornish pasties (from the fridges)
    • Their Spreadable butter (roughly £0.69p)
    • Their fresh lasagne (roughly £2.29 for enough to feed 4-5)
    • Their dark blue labelled cans of Tuna (nicer than some leading brands, IMO)
    • Their Jams
 As an aside .... how do you all pronounce the shop name?

    We say Lie-dl.

I have also heard 'Lidd-l' , and 'Lid-ell'. Then the voice-over guy on the adverts really confused me by saying 'Lee-del'.

Not that it changes the products, lol, but ... anyone out there know how it's meant to be pronounced???

Don't know if this is nationwide or just a local thing but until recently a Lidl near us used to give away daily its short dated bakery products - sliced bread, cakes, crumpets etc to any customers who wanted them. You just had to be there at the right time which was early morning. Needless to say my OH ensured he was there!! We saved lots!

Might be worth checking out your local LIdl for this kind of thing.

I thought these items would only be available at near closing time, but I have been in my local stores at different times of the day and bakery is free to take. It is on the shelves after you have been through the checkout.

    Great :j

I've read the whole thread and don't think anyone's mentioned their packs of parma and serrano ham, v good value. As are the packs of smoked salmon

I also buy the packs of sliced gouda - my DS loves it with the parma ham torn up and sprinkled over boiled new potatoes and grilled. V tasty.

I love their peach juice, reminds me of hols in Austria and Germany.

I find that most of the things made for the German market are brilliant quality and as people have said so is there fruit and veg, although I find that you have to choose carefully as it can go off quite quickly at times.

I dont visit Lidl very often, as its quite a bus ride away from us, but last time I was there I noticed some packs of cheese on the shelf at checkouts, I noticed people taking packs of it, so sent OH to ask how much they were selling it for, man at checkout said to help himself, it wasnt even out of date, still had 2 months left, so we took 2, everyone else was taking 2 packs. It was a nice strong cheese as well, enjoyed it all the more cos it was free.

I love their smoked salmon (£1.29 atm, but is usually £1.99) I get two thick sandwiches out of each pack. Yum!

Their pack of 8 fruit yoghurts for £1.29 are also lovely.

Other things worth a mention are the parmesan cheese, strawberry crisp cereal, pineapple juice, morello cherries in a jar, pasta n sauce, paella in a packet, cherry and strawberry jams and butterbeans.

Can you tell I shop there a fair bit?!
