Whats Good Value At Lidls?
Comments
-
I have just returned from my local Lidl's (2 towns away!) with a weekly shop (me, OH and DD(5 tomorrow!)), which came to the total sum of £20.70!!!!!:j
I kept reading about Lidls on here, but didn't really think that they would be that much cheaper. We used to have one in my town, but I would only pop in for a couple of things.
The F&V was about half the price of Mr T's (although they didn't seem to have the 'half price veg' promotion that I keep reading about).
I came home with five large carriers ('bag for life' size) and my fridge and cupboards are crammed!!. :T
I have compared the price of goods on the Tesco website and it would have cost £36.00!!!!
I was so impressed, I just had to tell someone!!! :rotfl:0 -
Never been to Lidl, aren't they quite similar to Aldi? I got to Aldi all the time their meat and cheese can't be beat for price and quality, Sainsburys is extorionate in comparison. Not too keen on their cereals or tinned stuff mind.Barclaycard - £489.74 / £500.00
CapitalOne - £1933.92 / £2000.00
Marbles - £719.45 / £750.00
Beneficial Finance - £398.86 / £450.00
Abbey Overdraft - £8500 -
We do have an Aldi where I live (although I have only used it for a full shop once). Perhaps I went at the wrong time, but the F&V wasn't great and I only managed to get about half of the things on my list!.
I think I will try an Aldi shop next week as it's obviously better than driving 10 miles up the road to get a shop!!0 -
I think it's worth a go, plus they're getting better all the time, I never used to get fruit from there it used to look a bit poor, but now it's always nice looking and very tasty.
The do really good deals on things like bin bags and cling film etc.
Also if you like coffee (proper coffee) they do a seriously nice Columbian medium strength in there.Barclaycard - £489.74 / £500.00

I didn't really rate the Columbian coffee from Lidl, but I'm a bit of a coffee snob and only drink Nescafe Alta Rica if I'm drinking instant. Lidl are doing some very nice coffee beans at the moment though at a very good price and even the already ground stuff isn't bad.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

Yes, I know what you mean, I recently 'found' Lidl and it's marvellous! I don't buy much ready made stuff, so can't comment on the quality of that but it's great for storecupboard basics and deli items. The fruit and veg seems a bit hit and miss at my local, and I've heard it doesn't keep too well, but I got some fabulous vine tomatoes last week and just ate the last one yesterday. Also worthy of note, the wine is very cheap and good quality. Had a bottle of Chilean Cab Sauvignon last night, excellent wine, cost £2.98. I think familiarity can be a bad thing where supermarkets are concerned, you just buy the same things out of habit and get lazy about price comparison. Switching stores makes you more alert and focussed, you end up trying things you might never have thought of before and finding new favourites.Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0

I find that I can't get everything there, but certainly most of the basics, and a lot more due to my weird tastes....they have huge jars of olives really quite cheap, jars of woodland mushrooms at 99p - cost me a fortune to buy elsewhere. Not really bought much in the fruit & veg line, as get mine delivered, so can't comment on the quality. Just bought onions and mushrooms which I needed and used immediately, and they were fine.
Hubby took MIL there few weeks ago, and she was amazed at the prices, so stocked up for several months on tins and other bits and pieces. Think she spent about £35, whereas normally she would have spent at least double that amount.
Can't compare it with Aldi as we don't have one near us, but they do sound similar.0 -
i have just come home from my weekly shop and i must be doing something wrong because..
before i went out i did a shopping list at tesco online and priced everything i needed
then i printed it and took it to lidls
the ONLY thing cheaper ( due to bogofs on cheese etc a tesco ) was a green cabbage that was 10p cheaper at lidl
everything else i got cheaper at tescos
found that the useby dates on stuff at lidls was very close too.
anyway - maybe i was just unlucky with teh things i needed.0 -

That's what I had found previously (when I'd looked at prices to compare). Todays shop was mainly F&V as we seem to get through ENORMOUS amounts! It also included sandwich fillings, frozen prawns, milk. As well as avacados and two pots of growing herbs (basil and parsley)!!.
As I said before, I have five large bags absolutely crammed.
I'm a convert!!0 -

Think that you were maybe just a bit unlucky with your shopping list today.
I make up my list, get all the tinned, jar, all sort of basics out of Lidl's - then elsewhere for other stuff.
They don't do veggie stuff like Quorn or soya products - well not in the one I go to anyway.
I get my veggies delivered, so just top up with stuff I really need, so not fair for me to comment, as used immediately. The Portobello mushrooms were lovely though, and cheaper than in local supermarkets.
What I have found really cheap is mayo, grain mustard, dilute orange juice, malt vinegar and the wraps were an amaxing 39p recently (think they are usually 79p). Also they have huge bags of paprika crisps, the kind of things that you get on holiday, which are lovely - just fold up the bag and close with a peg, they stay fresh for a few days. Tins of tomatoes are probably on a par pricewise with tesco, but they are thick, not watery. Likewise tins of beans, spaghetti. Found that although their cheddar was a good price, could buy else cheaper with bogoff offers. Their mozzarella, parmesan and feta cheese are cheaper than anyone else near me. Wish they did haloumi!
My OH likes those processed cheese triangles and they were good value for a box with I think 24 portions. Worth checking out if you use them. They are like the laughing cow variety - probably the same thing.0
