    Sorry about your uncle DD.

    Friday pleasures,

The beautiful moon, which I saw twice in one day, it was setting just as I woke up and opened the curtains, then rising again as we walked small dog which was quite appropriate as it’s the Wolf Moon!

A Muntjac deer walking down the side of the field, it settled in a sunny spot by the hedge and laid down, was a tad worried to see it still there a couple of hours later when I got back from the stables and did wonder if was in labour but then another one turned up and they walked off together.

Trying to teach the beautiful grey one to lift her feet on command, treats were involved so she quickly got the hang of it.

One of the riding school ponies had got out of her own field and gone visiting her pals, told the yard owner but had to laugh at how pleased she looked with herself.

Sunshine and blue skies in the afternoon, spent some time in the garden.
  • My knee doesn't hurt as much today!

Been out and stocked up for a couple of weeks as DH is set for a hernia op on Wednesday which will mean he won't be able to drive for a while so peace of mind is nice.

Lunch out and mini beetroot burgers with salad are an astonishingly tasty thing I found.

Lots of rugby on the TV this afternoon.

Finding a couple of pairs of leggings for the Frieda child at the garden centre in the sale, Joules and the original price was eye watering, less so at the reduction. Mind they are very good quality.

Thanks for the kind thoughts re. my fave uncle (and shhh not a word to my surviving uncle, though i guess technically he is now my fave uncle!) I feel so far from mum, though did get to chat online, and dd2 went round to see her (then one of the dogs puked all over her rug with no warning - oh well guess that took her mind off things!). And so for today
    1) good day at the conference. had some very funny chats with some very funny professors. one of them said i should come stay at hers next time i'm in Singapore. who knows? (she is one crazy prof though!)
    2) we've been using grab for taxis - fab service, and you get a cool graphic of the car 'eating' the road between the car and you with eta
    3) we had supper at the same restaurant as yesterday - spanish tapas so no repeats on yesterday. we sat again on the balcony over the river
    4) then we went on a river cruise. as recommended by our hosts yesterday we waited till the sky was dark
    5) beautiful blood moon, just one day beyond full.

DundeeDoll - you can have living & not-living favourites...
Mrs LW - rugby is beautiful, a mending knee even more so
LaineyT - what kind of hoof lifting? Clearly she can be shod so what am I missing?
Jayzee - a nice cup of tea is a wonderful thing.

Not single spies, but in battalions. Yes. I am to take the sort of antibiotic that is an hour before meals or 2 hours after, evenly spread through the day, 4 times a day. Oh well, it’ll make us all more disciplined about mealtimes.

Wry chuckle we intend to start Recluttering. Yes out with various things we are no longer passionate about but then onto new branches of mischief.

Magpies chattering. I remember sitting with a few-weeks-old baby on my lap, listening to them. Still familiar, still right for all I have learned of various magpie vices.

All the paperwork we can do without a coroner’s input (in another life I will be vehement on the merits of a filing system but perhaps you’re allowed to forget these earthly frustrations) has been done. Hurrah for email which has saved us a small ransom on stamps (still plenty to go yet, mind) and brought so many messages. All carefully logged as the final accounts are only drawn up when Everyone is acknowledged. A pleasure to think sorted. A concern to worry if I’m doing it right.

Oh gods, funeral clothes. At this rate I’ll be buying an exotic extra king size duvet cover & taking it in. Which will sort a skirt, but a jacket oh ye gods. I really cannot commend online clothes shopping for fun. Indeed Dante got lucky.

First morning with just marketing emails. Won’t last but interesting. (Post made up for it.)

Bedlington terrier name checked on would I lie to you - and I love the breed! Uncle had a pair when his three little girls were small & the photos are glorious.

Son helping clear his brother’s room. Silently hefting bags for the tip, for the charity shop (in the next county - we do not want to recognise a coat or jacket, leaf through a book to think “hang on?”) He’s being a trooper.

Other son loading groceries with equally silent industry - the everyday stuff is ongoing & I am so proud of them both. Red sauce & brown sauce & who wants a cup of tea - the simple queries that don’t trigger howling.

Oh this cough. Feels like it’s going to turn a lung out like a sock. The upside is it hasn’t, yet.

Hello. Been a lazy day and I’ve actually quite enjoyed being lazy

Currently sat on sofa in front of fire with a dog at my feet and watching Indian Summers that was on first when we lived in Australia.

Bit of a ghastly day weather wise so quite happy to stay put and the boy did the big long dog walk.

    Long chat to my sister.

The next few days will be busy enough so don’t feel too guilty about being a lazy bones! ( prefer keeping busy usually)
  • Hello All

managed to bag a few RTC items including a bunch of yellow tulips for my lovely elderly neighbour. It's amazing that they are in the shops all year round. They are her favourite flowers.

The wind is howling outside, nearly got blown over, so glad to be in the warm.

Have root veg soup to look forward to with my RTC sourdough bread. My most loved bread.

Loads of washing done, all dried now.

Lainey.......finished Black Beauty. It was Ginger that I was thinking of when you speak of your beautiful one. Fine and feminine. Not the side of her that was hurt by humans.

    Evening all :)

Five pleasures for today and yesterday:

    1. Having the All Creatures Great and Small film on the telly in the background while I pottered around today. Gentle old-fashionedy stuff.

    2. DS1 back safe and sound from Europe.

    3. Best friend sending me a gift box of vegan treats - third time he's done this since Xmas. It arrived just at the right moment. :)

    4. DM has been resisting food rather a lot today which meant I had her soup for lunch (as well as my own) and supper in peace on my own tonight as well. She's still drinking though which is good.

    5. Managed a much needed hour's snooze this afternoon. :)

    Sweet dreams

    Lovely steak fajitas for dinner

    Good evening all,

First pleasure - a lie in until 8:40am. I can't remember the last time that I slept so late. The House Troll woke up between 4 and 5am for years which wasn't so bad when his dad was alive but it was hard work once I was on my own. Things have definitely taken a turn for the better there.

Secondly - croissants for breakfast. Quick and easy and very yummy.

The HT and I went "thrift shopping". His name for charity shop shopping but looking for retro items. There is also an amazing shop called 69A Liverpool (it has a page on the book of farce) which is a shop selling antique clothing and "things". He found a suede jacket in there that he liked (and paid for it himself). I had a book voucher so we wnt to Waterstones too and I've come home with the Mowgli Street Food recipe book.

We've had a fair few pets over the years. I said no more hamsters after cat number 2 discovered how to let the hamster out of his cage. That led to a few heart stopping moments. Then there was the day that cat number 1 let herself into the hamster cage - who knew that a small grey cat could fit through a door that size? Not me, that's for sure! The hamster made it to old age but my nerves couldn't take any more.....We had fish and baby fish which grew up but when we moved house the stress proved too much (for them and me) and they became ex-fish. We had sea monkeys too - they were an epic fail. One ate all the others then died, presumably from over eating. Today we bought a fish tank. It's not ready for fish yet but the excitement is building.

Last thing..... a hot bath followed by a g&t. It's rare that I have a weekend day off so we made the most of it.

DfV my thoughts are with you. So many things to do and so many "firsts" to come still. Everybody's experience of bereavement and grief is different. Some people will tell you that you should be doing one thing and others will tell you something else. Do what you feel is right for your family.

Lainey we had a horse that would give his hoof for food. These days all we have left is a cat that would sell her soul in exchange for doner kebab meat. Not nearly as impressive.

DD - agree with the distant charity shops. My sister's friend had bought her first house so had all the furniture from the downstairs of my grandparents' house - table, suite, wall cupboard, sideboard. I've purposefully never visited.

    Pleasures for today (Saturday)

    1) Not a bad sleep.

    2) A voucher of money back from Thomas Cook - hoorah!

    3) Hens OK.

    4) Went to Ludlow on the way to pick up bigger son but didn't find anything in the charity shops.

    5) Off up the A49 to pick bigger son up after his first week living away - he loves it! In fact, he wasn't really sure he wanted to come back and is going back there tomorrow morning, rather than Monday, as they are off trampolining. He likes the training, enjoys the assessments and says he hasn't laughed so much since he was at primary school. We've just had a chat about setting up a savings account (as they live on site and there is literally no shop for miles and he can't spend anything!) and setting him up a quidco account and a mobile phone in his own name.

    6) Duolingo is going well and I think I'd like to take a GCSE in Welsh in a year or so. Will probably pop to Wales tomorrow when I've dropped bigger son off.
