5 OS pleasures in your day today - part 3

Frith

Pleasures for today (Wednesday)

1)Not a bad sleep.

2) Did some batch cooking plus chicken and stuffing for smaller son's lunchtime sandwich.

3) Did lots of odd jobs.

4) Took smaller son to Sainsbury's cafe.

5) Salmon and veg bake for tea.

6) Messages from my brother who has taken my mum on a visit to her homeland, including Lindisfarne.

7) Watched 24 Hours in Police Custody.

A lovely day despite a sad start when I heard that a dear friend died - he'd been ill for a while and he had a peaceful last days in his house with his children and sister around.

1. we hosted a research day - with all the rubbish going on it was lovely to see the team relaxed and fulfilled
2. friend's son phoned to say his dad had died - i was very touched
3. the mse bit - the lunch was brown bag, each containing a packeted sandwich, crisps, a drink and a fruit salad. I unpacked the left over bags, told people to help themselves and there were still four sandwiches left so took two cheese sandwich packs for thursday and friday lunch
4. football with friends, DrM arrived for 2nd half
5. then phoned dd2 on my way home - we discussed the wedding - still 13 months off but very excited already

Morning all.

Sorry to hear about your friend, D/Doll, always sad. Hard phone calls for his son to make.

Very much a back to school day and new pencil cases at the ready, the majority of our schools are back today.

Some pleasures:

1. A lovely few days away with my brothers and their wives. We had never investigated Northamptonshire in any depth but it is a beautiful county. Showed itself off to perfection in the glorious sunshine.
2. Again, lots of delicious food, good wine, chatting and laughter but, oh my, it wasn't a pleasure lumbering onto the scales this morning. The diet starts (again) here.
3. We visited Althorp, coincidentally on the 29th anniversary of Diana, Princess of Wales' death which was very poignant, with the flag flying at half mast. Four beautiful black swans on the lake - there is a backstory to them, do ask if ever you visit (Earl Spencer's latest book is called Swan Story).
4. An afternoon out today, hubby has to have a check up at the dentist to make sure the stitches from his recent procedure are all ok. They are, he's not had a moment's trouble, so we will do some shopping and have tea and cake somewhere nice - this does not fit in with the diet but we will get some steps in mooching round the shops and will buy salad and fruit.
5. Our beloved baby (heaven forfend he ever hears me calling him that!) started senior school this morning. It seems like yesterday he was a little tot trotting into nursery. We waved him off after the statutory photos on the doorstep and he hopped quite happily into dad's car, apparently then met up with some friends at school and went it with them without so much as a backward glance! He enjoys school and was looking forward to it but the house feels empty without him :( His 'old school' is just across the road and they are all going back at the end of the day to say hello to their last form teacher in their new uniforms.

So I'm glad we are going out, this will be a moochy morning while hubby is out set-building. I will give myself a shake and get on with some autumn sorting and this feeling will pass - just like the day my bairn started school all over again, I'm feeling a bit lost and genny with myself so will be better getting on with something.

Dark and dismal at almost 8.30pm. It’s been raining constantly since about 3pm…I had hung a washing out so had to go out and bring it in! Bah! Heating on for a wee while to try and get it dried off.

Anyway yesterday was spent with DD2 and The Baby. Then when they left me and my doggy headed off to CP , got there at 7pm and had a nice walk. Was drizzly and then we were in about 10 minutes and down came the rain! Whooosh!

A reasonable sleep by caravan standards ( really just my general poor standards) until I was woken at 4.45am with what sounded like gunshots or fireworks going off ! I found out a few hours later it was thunder and lightning and maybe it had been rumbling away and I was asleep at that point but this was like loud staccato firing! So I was a bit unsettled. Went our first walk at 6.30am.

DD1 called to tell me she has a new job! Hurrah!

Over for my swim at 9am. Just me and some robins! Singing away to me as I swam.

Hot shower. And packed up and came home. Had a nice walk on the way out. ( I park half way down the drive)

Stopped on way home for paint for caravan kitchen and then popped into charity shop at that end of town and got a smart pair of trousers for work and a lovely little photo frame.

And back home. Chat to sister…hung out washing…as it was dry then! Walked to DD2 and then we came round here via supermarket In her car. A very unsettled baby who was later very sick…all down my back, my wall and my boots! Wee soul…that’s why she was so unhappy. Bathtime a wee bit earlier than usual and a load of washing on!

We were looking through photos from my husband’s phone that DD2 has on her phone and it made me smile/cry at how happy we all were and how our lives changed. But lots of lovely happy moments.

And then they left and I got tidied up again…so much stuff required for a teeny tiny person.

And a big doggy sat next to me snoring as I write this

1)Not a bad sleep.

2) Next door messaged me with photos of her new foster guide dog.

3) Went to a new social thing (new to me) but some rather grumpy people attended so I won't go again.

4) Had a barbecue with smaller son.

5) About to watch Ludwig.

2) Went to the coffee morning and did a cryptic crossword.

3) My friend came back with me afterwards to try and mend my sewing machine.

4) Wrote a crossword for my friend.

5) Took smaller son to Argos for a new computer controller.

Hello.

For Friday.

Up early. I had a work meeting this morning. Went up to restaurant at local castle to meet and had a lovely catch up after not seeing everyone over summer. Chatted for blooming ages. The restaurant has a glass roof and we had all the weather 😂

Then home, fed a doggy and off we went to CP. Had the breeziest walk! Oh my goodness the dog was nearly taking off by his ears!

Oh I’ll just go for a swim….hmm you might want to rethink that! Torrential rain…had a snooze instead and then went for a late afternoon swim… only got 14 lengths done when the rain started again.

We were out walking later and the Red Arrows flew overhead which was amazing!

Painted the walls in my kitchen.

Then bed.

Up early and headed home about 6.45am. We had a walk first which was nice.
Then home, washing on…I’d stripped my bed yesterday and had the foresight to remake it then so just had to do the washing. I hung it out and of course the rain started! Me…really? How rude! Anyway it did brighten up later and it’s all dried and in.

Walked round to DD2. We were going to baby class at library which was nice. Walked back from DD2 afterwards by which time the sun was out and I was a tad overdressed in my big coat!

Hello doggy!

Had a snoozette. And I have a wee list of chores to do this evening…watching Casualty on iPlayer…I’ve been watching for 40 years!

goodness I love Saturdays

1. the joy of taking a cup of tea back to bed and doing killer sudoku
2. friend's excess apples - had some stewed on my porridge yum
3. refresh of bathroom accessories - seaside theme pictures, cushion, toilet roll holder and bag off to the charity shop - was allowed to take doggy in and he got some ear tickles
4. showed mum best way to get to the nature reserve by bus - we had a lovely walk round then caught the bus home
5. a lovely evening at a friend's then home and now in bed - alarm set as choir practice at 9:30

Pleasures for yesterday (Saturday)

1)Not a bad sleep.

2) Took my sewing machine to the repair cafe and the lady who looked at it was a friend I hadn't seen for years!

3) Went to Sainsbury's cafe for a pot of tea then bought a few bits.

4) Scrambled eggs and salmon for lunch.

5) Smaller son and I listened to the football commentary on the radio. Our team was down to 10 men after 20 minutes but won 4-1 !

6) Cleaned blanket weed out of the pond.

7) Phoned my school friend.

8) Watched both 40th anniversary Casualty specials.

Highdays

Morning all.

It seems the heatwave we were promised has yet to materialise, it is cool and damp here.

Some pleasures:

1. Amazing how quickly the grass has greened up and actually needed cutting. Yay!
2. Very autumnal nip in the air now, if we are lucky we will get some gentle September sunshine but hopefully the ferocious heat of the summer is now behind us.
3. Children back at school, another couple of weeks and eldest grandson will be heading back to his Uni house, life slowly returns to normal. Normal is my favourite.
4. Our town show this weekend, if the weather clears up a bit, and it seems to be brightening up, we will mosey down to our biggest park and show some support. Amongst other things there will be brass band music on the bandstand and yummy hot dogs and ice creams while we listen, acrobatic displays and cookery demos to watch too.
5. Started an online history course put together for me by AI, 30 sections with some questions at the end of each which we then 'discuss'. Really interesting stuff and pitched at just the right level - a bit of a challenge but not too dry. Filling in a lot of my very sketchy historical knowledge, just approaching 1066 now, very timely with the Bayeaux Tapestry back on our shores.

Determined to enjoy the next couple of days before I start the next round of big dental procedures on Wednesday which I'm not thinking about yet! Son and DIL's new settees and chairs arrived all packaged up yesterday. They were just finishing off some painting and the big reveal will be today so we will finally see the room looking like a room and not a building site after six years!!!
