Highdays - yikes results day. Own Bed - its a unique pleasure! Phew teeth sorted - toothache can turn even the loveliest chap into a bit of a hazard. Cones & traffic lights in The Wrong Place - imagination boggling happily.
Frith - good football is a special pleasure. New to you car! Rousing cheers for Auntie S. I love mumse(ums|a) as meeting places! The sound of a floor being conjured by tiler... cast iron garden bench "ends" - Brilliant - will you remove old paint any rust etc before repainting & sourcing the right timber? (A Land Rover colour again or something more primary?!) What size chess set do you carry & board in half or quartered? Still bone dry despite thunder? Putting things back once done & cleaned is a definite pleasure! Huge congratulations on expended wardrobe. New washing line? (Long or rotary?)
weenancyinAmerica - as summers go this is being a notable one, but it appears to be pretty bizarre in places in the US too. Reciprocal hugs to those who need them!

mhagster - Amidst all this activity, you are allowed to foozle wallpaper. Yum, baby cuddles! Splendid ruthlessness with garage. Still short dog walks? Roses for wedding anniversary is wholly right. Toadstools & woolly jumpers - both sound marvellous! DD1 coming to Aunt for a bit?! Old diaries are a monument to how much you used to do but your posts haven't notably reduced. Having to check replying - gosh yes, that can be a social hazard! An emotional one at work, ulp, but baby cuddles. Why the trades can never be on the time they say is a perpetual mystery & frustration! Accountant homework handed in!
Purple kitten - "There’s a full complement of animals" is a definite pleasure vicariously, and Oh Drat the syrup on the kitchen floor. Too many tomatoes?! Congratulations! Getting up in the night - because that's the way that love is.
Happycas - York is a cracking Uni but as you say the steps! Much impressed you can find your welding gear. Helping DGD focus on coursework - such a gift!
PaulieHerts - yikes hostessing in between bouts - please focus on recovery? Wow red arrows over beach hut! Pace yourself?!
DundeeDoll - much impressed by the successful separation of work from home life & better sleep!
ampersand - ah, figs & every sort of mobile, wheels and limbs! Have you plans for your own wine with those amazing grapes? Stunning wildlife, colours, textures, creative potency!

OS Pleasures recently
Band! I was allowed to play with the seniors albeit as a very third cornet.
Youngest confused by to caper/capering so I explained Shakespearean dancing/jigging about was ‘capering’ whereas twentieth century ‘in on this caper’ as in ‘part of this proposed likely illicit activity’.
Once again he treats the weekly supermarket shop as a trolley dash (I use the trolley as a walking aid) & he gets the steps in, hunting me as I move from point to point. Why does the supermarket have seeds in three different locations in 3 different packaging sizes & colourways at 3 different prices?!
Just been reminded to bring the bedlinen off the line (98% dry!) & faced interrogation as to Why handkerchieves should be flat given they get squashed against the “mucuszoids”. (Youngest has a vigorous way with the English language, can’t think where he gets it from.)
Smitten by the care for Rhossi, a rare sea turtle accidental tourist from the Gulf of Mexico. I know the water in Wales can be very cold, I imagine Rhossi is absolutely not a fan, but has had two years TLC & will be flown to the US to go home!

Band postponed an hour to let eclipse watching occur. Grand lesson even if the notes bear almost no relation to logic. (The cello is Very Different!)
Youngest gallumphing around the house, looking for a welding mask we ought to have but can’t find!
Eclipse viewed on a jerkin through a pinhole held on a music stand. I recall last time, in the office car park, leaning on my husband under thick cloud as our firstborn was securely happy in nursery. Once in a generation thing indeed.
Found a previous post on where to put cool flannels to ease the heat! (I keep having to look up where the liver is.)
A roofer is coming to sort water ingress into mum’s house! Currently scheduled to be a 3 day event, but the kindly gods only know how long it will actually be, as the loft has foam insulation that could be hiding all sorts of lamentation. At least we have started on the path to finding out.

A good day, leading innocent minds astray. Well, delivering training & topping up gaps left by one trainee attending a funeral. Of the 8, one missed a day at the start as holiday, one missed a day at the end as holiday, two missed days as funerals & one was admitted to hospital from A&E! Us trainers cheerfully scheduling catching up the holidaymakers & funeral goers, & sending reassuring words to the hospitalised. (Never had a trainee die on me. Hope to maintain that.)
Ah, Midsomer and the reassuring certainty that someone is going to come a probably terminal cropper. Odd relaxation but justice is comfortable.
I enjoy Reacher novels. He’s a knight errant, with a serious coffee habit & the books are morality tales, if at something of a slant.
Lovely afternoon of brass concert (me beaming in the audience & taking photos for a fellow cornet). Also meeting significant others & beloved dogs!
Forecast for a bit of rain! Gosh, please.
Twitching about being introduced to Middleson’s girlfriend. I’m not a typical mum & I don’t want to rock the boat! (He's being very reassuring, which amuses us both.)

Colleague devastated over the death of Jason Arday - feeling it acutely as bullying of difference. I share her concern that people have not treated a young black father as they might a neighbour or friend & that there is some thinking to do about racism, alongside the concern about wildfires.
Sister grumbling that needing help to change a smoke detector battery is against her feminist instincts whereas mum’s carer cheerfully ‘we need to give men opportunities where they can be a hero’. I see both sides but think it makes more sense to build self worth & self confidence in those who might harbour quiet doubts.

More cornet practice - making very slow progress but better some slow than none!
Likewise with knee exercises - some things are loosening up & others still trigger yips of “drat, stupid”… Medic has now said brace & painkillers til physio available in a month.

Went to drop off clothes pegs for young trombone to find bandleader absent & those covering for him hugely tolerant so briefly was kidnapped by musicians & had a wonderful few hours (playing a borrowed cornet!)
Awash with the joy of live music hours later (though knee putting in a bass line).
Orthotics grinning recognition of my much worn orthoses & sending me home with a goodie bag of replacements! Plus a lesson on how to do up the knee brace correctly for optimum help. (Hurrah, my Scout trousers are baggy enough for work!)
Ah Snow Patrol “chasing cars” on the radio. Restful. Along with news Chester zoo have successfully treated a Python for jaw cancer - and she’s back healthy, eating & “feisty” again. I love the research teamwork involved!
Ludwig s2… murderous sisters eh?! And a wedding with a body - not quite the traditional photos. Then students & their capabilities…. (or not)

In another leader-absent-due-to-ill-health-session, the junior band went mildly amok, & had fun with “Crazy little thing called love”! Lovely arrangement, everyone had confidence with 90%+ of it & so collectively it sounded wonderful!
Oh Wodehouse! Where else do you find such delightful ideas as “bop him on the snoot”?!
Dolly Parton, RIP. A pleasure to hear so much of her work getting airtime. A howling loss. Dropped in on local charity shop, they had an LP on special display & debating what to put in the window (as they’re a bit short on rhinestones) - I suggested books…
Pondered laying out yoga skins for tomorrow then thought forecast cool & rainy, & left social trousers handy.
Not a pleasure but a strange feeling of kinship with the people of Norway as their king Harald goes from very ill to dead, the crown Prince has to step up & his daughter (who’s done a hitch in the army like most citizens) is now crown Princess & they have to grieve & get on & study together. Colleague pondering going over to Norway (wife Norwegian) & me remembering our Queue & encouraging him.

OhDearHeavens. It’s not yet September but that coffee chain is wheeling out the pumpkin spice nonsense already. Pleasure is laughing at it!
There’s something strangely pleasing about watching flight radar & watching planes take off & land.
Retired colleague hadn't heard from a friend for a week & asked me to check their work calendar to settle any worry. Annual leave just no out of office set, 80% phew.
Pondering the Pratchett sign “I Ate'nt Dead“ & pondering making one & taking it into work. Vaguely wondering how many would get the joke (especially over Teams, oh gods).
Woke thinking I heard Youngest asking would adding conditioner to food help? Had formulated “no but the bottle of olive oil has multiple uses” when the alarm went.

Band & in the lesson I was getting higher notes reliably! Blimey, it’s only taken 7 months but I can get the lower notes without hassle. I joke I need a stepladder & the youngling needs an anchor but between us we make a full range of cornet sound. So much fun!
Ah Midsomer, & oops there’s me cheerfully yipping “Opinel!”. Gosh some family habits stick….
Looking at the Jedi robes & thinking actually you could wear quite a lot like that even with neuro sensitivities just they’d need to be tailored intelligently. Then pondering those who are reassured by gripping garments & thinking hm, stab vest… (Ceramic plate definitely heavy but oddly soothing as you do feel safer; whilst your knees can stand it. [Quite how they came into that mltary surplus store, all those years ago, I have no idea but I got to try them on, out of curiosuty as a historian!])
Looking at online information about Star Wars costume & thinking some people are amazingly skilled & others have a lot of time on their hands.
Thunder rolling & rain bucketing - can almost hear the reservoirs sighing relief! Also weaving museum had a stall at a civic do & it was sunny with questions - now answered!

Pleasures for today (Sunday)

1)Another good sleep - what is going on?!

2) Did nothing during the morning.

3) Lots of cooking. Made roast veg soup for tomorrow and for the freezer. Egg mayo sandwiches for smaller son's lunch, prawn and avocado for me. Sausage, mash and peas for his tea, sausages, tomato and mushroom for mine.

4) Watched TV this afternoon.

5) More football tomorrow.

DfV - it's a folding chess board my chess partner bought for my 50th birthday. It's been abroad with us!

and just like that, the weekend has gone. My birthday on Thursday and i took the day off. so quick 5 for Thursday

1. St Andrews with mum - lunch at Zest, a cafe with a social purpose - very nice food too
2. went to a lovely little hardware store - bought a soap dish for mum's bathroom and met 2 friends - she's a guider and they're walking the coastal path between the guide company to raise funds for their trip to Switzerland next year (unasked, I did sponsor her so quite an expensive soap dish 🤣)
3. then we found a museum I'd not been to before -ti's just reopened after a big update, courtesy of the Lottery fund - £5 for an annual pass, we will be back 😎
4. choir - I took cake as did one of the choral scholars - 77 trips round the sun between us
5. then mennies with Mr G, Dr M, Mrs G and Mr E - very nice way to round off my birthday

I won't mention work so 5 for the weekend (though we won't mention the Mansfield ParkTown put past my beloved Luton ouch)

1. have changed my internet - a considerable saving (I am going through everything, loyalty really doesn't pay with anything, but you're all mse fans so you all know that)
2. returned Us (very good) and took out Quantum of Solace from the library - my alphabet of books is going well
3. happy birthday sung to me (and a rather embarrassed choral scholar) end of the service
4. bought a cat dish from Flying Tiger to use as a soap dish in my bathroom - the cat is looking rather annoyed at the soap which makes me smile every time I look at it
5. did the scavenger hunt at Sostrenegrene (I did check it wasn't just for children) and now the proud owner of 5 pencils (as well as what I went in for)
