1 I’m considering taking a self-imposed phone break, it feels like I spend too much time just checking stuff on it and not in the moment.

2 The half Christmas treeis hung up safely in the window, away from animal paws. It still needs decorating, I haven’t dug down to that box, but might have found a heroes box instead.

3 I am rather pleased that there is a quiet weekend this weekend, no plans, as rather dauntingly next week there isn’t a spare evening in sight.

4 Leftover defrosted last weeks takeaway, actually tasted better that I thought and was dinner.

5 I’ve ordered some lights for the back of my car after reversing in pitch darkness yesterday.

    Pleasures for today (Friday).

    1) Good to get up after a terrible sleep. Smaller son had a tantrum at 2.45am and I couldn't get to sleep after that.

    2) Hens OK.

    3) Took bigger son to floody city so he could buy some new parts for his bike. Had a hot dog from the Christmas market (well, the stalls opposite the cathedral - the big market has gone). Looked at the Christmas trees in the cloisters (lots of charities and local companies decorate one each) then stopped to talk to an archaeologist working in the footings of the new heritage centre.

    4) Went to my niece's school fair. A small Victorian school, not unlike my own primary school (though mine was smaller, with just 2 rooms and no hall).

    5) Chips from the van for tea.

    6) Elections man phoned me so we are all set for next Thursday.

    7) Watched Have I Got News for You and I'm a Celebrity.

    8) Did more crochet wreaths. There should be one for everyone in place of a Christmas card this year.

Exciting day tomorrow as bigger son has an all day selection thing in Shropshire for an outdoor instructor. If he gets it, he will either be working in Shrops, Wales or one of two chateaus in France!

Ooh exciting stuff Frith best of luck to eldest son.
    Happy holidays to the BOPS

    Friday pleasures,

Despite early night slept in until 8am.

Capt S booked long weekend off so leisurely breakfast together.

Went to cathedral city, beloved went for haircut and I had a mooch. Found a number of presents, all from small independent shops where I’m pleased to spend my pennies.

However, discovered that my fav bookshop does a selection of Persephone books which is extremely dangerous to my piggy bank, restrained myself and just got the one!

Shared a mulled wine scone with beloved, very tasty.

Afternoon walk was wet and small dog’s ears get really curly in the damp, cute.

Thank you for all the good luck re: bigger son.

    Pleasures for today (Saturday).

    1) Not a bad sleep.

    2) The day did not start well as we were getting ready for the drive to the interview when smaller son succumbed to a tummy bug in a Big Way. He didn't get up until 9pm and has just gone back to bed!

BUT - we still got to the interview in time.

    3) I dropped bigger son off and went to the Secret Hills centre in Craven Arms for a bit - had never been, though had driven past hundreds of times. I can say nice caf!, huge and massively stocked shop and the educational bit could have been good but I don't know as it was £5!

    4) Set off from there and walked up to the Stiperstones (or one of them, I didn't walk the whole route). Very windy and a bit cold. Good views.

    5) Carried on and saw a sign for a Stone Circle so parked up there and walked up for a look (Mitchell's Fold). Also found a geocache nearby.

    6) Then on to Powis Castle, also somewhere new to me. Really enjoyed this - deer park as you drive up, peacocks in the grounds, very interesting exhibitions on the various treasures brought back from India then all about the girl's school evacuated there. Good shop! Bought 3 decorations. Decent caf! for an Eccles cake and cup of tea.

    7) Stopped in Welshpool for the charity shops but didn't find anything. One had a polo mallet for sale!

    8) Picked bigger son up again. He didn't think he was at his best (more of this later). They all had to stand up and talk about themselves (36 interviewed) and one girl was an MMA fighter and was in the GB Olympic team for judo!!

    9) Bigger son then went out with my brother to watch the boxing (at my brother's friend's house) and there the tummy bug hit him too... My brother decided he couldn't possibly leave and give him a lift home so I've just driven out there to pick him up (I'm not terribly impressed by that). We did get to see the Christmas lights in town on the way home.

So that's it for today! In bed with 1 hwb and about to watch Casualty. 2 invalids lying in the bunkbeds in the next room.
  • Frith, that’s quite a day, I hope DS hears soon.

1 I hung more decorations around, which also prompted a bit more tidying and de cluttering.

2 Popped out and sent a parcel off and a letter to the US, I went with DH so we didn’t need to worry about parking.

3 The place is quite presentable.

4 We went out to pick up a wonderful takeaway Chinese.

5 Watching a nice film on Prime, as normal TV only offered gore or reality.
