5 OS pleasures in your day today - part 3

Phew Bop you had me worried there for a moment. Poor ol Raffles.
There have been some very large non pleasures over here today which have left me baffled, bemused, angry and now just irritated. So finding pleasures will be in itself a pleasure.
Just when things were getting a bit much here and I was on the web looking for advice and information, a ferret came over and cuddled up on me, and then as if various people are watching over, we received some nice news to counteract the other.
1 A peculiar one, I drafted a basic wedding speech outline for people I’ve never met! Asked to by FIL, couldn’t say no but there isn’t much I can write when I have no anecdotes about them at all so just provided an outline of a speech.
2 Various washing tetris achieved, summer clothes gathered together packed away, and winter jumpers unpacked. Trying to make life easy by creating sets of clothes.
3 Collected in the green tomatoes and bagged up all the excess garden debris, just pondering recipes for chutney now.
4 Meal planned for tonight is snorkers and mash.
5 Watched a property auction via live streaming, it seems straightforward.0 -
Hello from the cottage on the island.
Another quiet day. Went to castle had a wander round gardens. I love them. I’m missing my allotment.
Drove round the coast a bit . However most of the beaches are accessed over freshwater rivers (before the sea) and Mr Dog will just not cross a bridge or a boardwalk. Drove back round and went to the little beach here.
Snooze.
Schmaltzy movie.
Nice long chat to sister.
Played with dog and ball in park/garden.
Had leftover lasagna and potatoes, corn on cob and broccoli for tea.
It’s blooming dark out there for the last walk of night!
Love to Bopsie x0 -
Hope Bopsie is healing well.
Ampersand - any news re cameras? My school friend has installed a web cam as someone keeps stealing her lavender!
Well, a miserable few days. College is not really working out. Bigger son has left. They cancelled his course at 9am on his first day and put him on "Sports", in which he has no interest. His general well being has plummeted over the last week.
College do not seem bothered that smaller son has managed 2 half days and 1 full day in 3 weeks. Perhaps they have not noticed.
I finally phoned the head office of my job-to-be (as I had not heard anything for over 3 weeks). Turns out college had photocopied all the DBS police check stuff and "right to work" stuff and emailed it on to head office. They hadn't read the email (!) Hence no one starting work, including me.
Had another email today, demanding p45 and other stuff. They've had it!
At least we had the Manchester United trip to look forward to. Match booked, hotel booked, train tickets paid for plus parking. All plans written down - Christmas market, bus number and times. However, it was all booked through Thomas Cook...
And a puncture. Well, more of the side of the tyre disintegrating. I couldn't under the bolts (at the edge of a main road, of course) but 2 road men came and did it for me.
Pleasures for today (Wednesday).
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Went to the first of six sessions on autism. Always good to hear other parents talking about exactly the problems I face - school refusal, sensory problems, occasional violence.
3) Bigger son went to an agency and has a job starting next Monday. Every weekday 2-10pm.
3) Hens OK.
4) Smaller son went to college and made the first positive comment about it so far! He enjoyed a trip to the server room and learning that, if the air conditioning fails, it overheats to the point that they can't open the door as the handle gets too hot!
5) Fajitas for tea.
6) Smaller son in a good mood and helped me clean the downstairs.
7) Watched GBBO.
8) My brother popped round for board games.0 -
Wishing that people have better days today.
PK I'm hopeless at writing speeches even if I know the person.
Frith - hopefully bigger sons job works out and you eventually start yours.
Ampersand look after yourself and document everything.
Topher I totally agree with your comment about pain.
1. Worked with two people I consider friends. I made my feelings known about the amount of work I did in comparison to everyone else. It is an I'm going issue on Wednesday but as manager and line manager don't pull their weight my complaints fall on deaf ears. I left on time though.
2. It was only very light drizzle when I left work so didn't get too wet going to the post office. DS2 passport is sent off at last!
3. Read Gardeners world magazine.
4. Had sausage casserole for tea which cheered DS1 up as it's his favourite.
5. My flowers still looks good.0 -
Much commiserations to thread friends having tough times x
Wednesday pleasures,
Early morning trip into BuryStEd as had a couple of errands, forgot that it was market day so nice to have a browse and pick up some f&v.
Parking at emporium is free providing you have receipt so a look for bargains, couple of rtc bits for freezer and two pots of mincemeat!
Driving home was scary as started to have familiar floating squiggles in eyes which precede a migraine, guess pleasure was I managed to get home safely.
Rest of the day is bit of a blur but thank goodness for good store of painkillers and snuggles with small dog.
Did get up for a couple of hours in evening and Capt S made me some soup.0 -
A good morning in the shop despite there only being two of us in, takings as normal and neither of us out of our depth or stressed by the lack of others.
A visit from DD1, James and Freida who is remarkably alert for a newborn when she is awake, took her for a walk around the lake and she stayed in her buggy for most of it (first time out for a walk anywhere) and only needed a cuddle on the homeward leg.
Next doors Siamese cat trying to reach the baby when we put her in the buggy because her cry sounded like a kittens! dear old thing actually followed us down the road circling the buggy in some concern until Frieda stopped squeaking, so sweet.
It's a lovely sunny day out there with only a chance of showers which is very nice.
We've made the decision NOT to watch the TV news any longer, it's a waste of our time and I feel less twizzled by far when I just turn off the TV! good decision!0 -
for yesterday
1) hm pasta salad for lunch - lots of crunchy vegetables plus tuna - very yummy
2) part of my 'slimmer of the week' goodie bag was 4 figs - not something i would normally buy. Shared with boss. Very nice
3) i was on dog duty so quick trot back, quick walk, early supper for them, couple of slices of toast for me (last of hm bread) and hm jam (neither made by me but am tempted to have a go)
4) as i approached the library i had 10 more pages of The gentleman of Moscow to read so stepped inside, finished, and now have 'The aunt who wouldn't die'. Libraries - most definitely mse
5) silent film showing at uni - free event, with glass of wine or something non-alcoholic, music score written and played by my very talented colleague then home for GBBO. Nerve-wracking actually knowing someone in it! Michael survives to bake another day.

Random for this week
1. DH had 1:1 with manager, looks like big promotion might be happening in April, which might mean a move to Norn Iron is on the cards. We live in a v. expensive area now so prospect for same/more pay in lower cost of living area is quite exciting, plus easier to pop down to family in ROI. Am very proud of him.
2. Baby stuff. Sorted car seat. Pleased with choice as I think it's un bon rapport qualite prix, as our French cousins would say. Bought a £1 Which? trial beforehand to scope out options and used Topcashback to get a few avios points, and also the British Airways AmEx to get a few more :money: Apart from a mattress and the (budget) running buggy it's pretty much all we've bought new. :money:
3. Today we had the 20 week scan. We said we didn't want to know which flavour of genitalia the baby has but I'm pretty sure I saw a penis (and scrotum). I add in the scrotum bit because when I told my work colleagues one of them said "just a penis?!", very concerned I have a baby with meat and no veg. Veg is very important. Anyway, a sonographer I am not so I may be wrong and the important this is that baby is healthy.
4. FOOD. Went rogue and bought mince pies from Lidl last night. In September! Yes, I know, I'm exciting, unpredictable...craaaazy! Delicious. Yummy leftover shepherdess pie for lunch. And then some sneaky salt and vinegar hoola hoops. Don't worry, I will eat an apple too.
5. French class tonight. We haven't done our homework, oh dear!0 -
Pleasures for today (Thursday).
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Hens OK.
3) Did 6 hours of voting work (delivering forms). No one rude to me today but some very creepy flats - just the architecture with the concrete yards and dark staircases - like something out of a gangster film.
4) Made baked potatoes for tea.
5) Babysat small niece from 7pm.
6) Smaller son had made flapjacks on my return.0 -
Bedtime. In my own bed. I’m home . Early. Seems me and my dog are home birds and happier here than away.
Stayed in a beautiful little cottage which was the most well equipped place I’ve ever stayed ( and we’ve stayed in a few over the years) however I have an allergy to feathers and had forgotten to ask which is stupid of me . The duvet was feathers the pillows were feathers and the cushions were feathers in the very beautiful bedroom. So I slept downstairs on the sofa which also had feather filled back cushions but was less feathers than upstairs.
The dog has not been himself. A storm was forecast for tomorrow and I didn’t want to be stuck nor on a rocky ferry . DD has her driving test tomorrow and I wanted to be here (to hopefully give her the congratulations card that’s in the drawer!) she’s already been for a CT scan without me this week so I was feeling like slightly bad Mum of the week already!
So after a lovely walk round the castle grounds again and a nice chat with gardeners again , a mooch round charity shop ( 2 pretty platters, a skirt, a pair of linen trousers, a pair of waterproof trousers for DD and a gorgeous pair of dungarees for Baby ) a pop back in just in case visit to a shop and out with a lovely jug/vase I’d seen the other day.
A stunning rainbow over the bay. If you knew how many heavy showers I’ve been in today! It was worth it to see the rainbow.
Got back to cottage and thought Mhags just go home. Packed up and tidied up quickly. Dog in car. Drove to ferry terminal...and my battery was flat! Sigh! In lashing rain and a lovely ferry chap helped me to jump start then suggested I drove to next town ( I’d been in tears at this point!) ...horrific rain! Back to terminal, he said just keep engine on till you’re on ferry, thankfully it started on other side. Hoping drive home has given it enough charge.
Ah home! home to the huge spider in the downstairs loo that no one else was dealing with. It’s no longer there. I hate spiders.
Home to the pile of dishes...’he’s not done this’ ‘she doesn’t do this’ sigh!
Have hoovered and washed floors however son was made to clean mess on cooker!
Just the thought of my own bed has kept me going all evening. It hasn’t disappointed me!
Chat with sister. Chat with friend.
Dog happy to be home. Apparently the fear of bridges / walkways isn’t a new one but son just doesn’t take him anywhere with them! I’m wondering if he had to walk somewhere with loose ground when he was air-freighted over? Can’t think of any other situation he’s been in that one of us hasn’t been with him? He was freaking out when we returned to car deck on ferry !
So I still have 2 days off work . Going to hopefully make the most of them!
Oh all my sunflowers have flowered when I’ve been away! They must be about 8’ tall! That’s the first time ever I’ve successfully grown them. Usually the slugs get ‘em!
Hope you’ve all had a good day0
