PK - I’ve never been! I won’t be going with bigger son either. He has to be there by 8.45 (!) so is going alone and staying in a guest house overnight.

    Pleasures for today (Wednesday).

    1) Not a bad sleep.

    2) Smaller son refusing to go to school and generally playing up. I went back to bed in the end (some might call it sulking, I call it getting my shoulders warm and having a little think!)

    3) Bigger son and I spent a while looking at guest houses in Kingston upon Thames and booking one. He has never been on a train by himself (as we don't live anywhere near a station) and, with his cheaper train split ticket, will be going on about 15 and undergrounds over 2 days! He swapped his VSO interview to a better day.

    4) Hens OK and we took down warm pasta lo from last night plus warm water.

    5) Went to the Forest to look at the setup where bigger son has an interview on Saturday. He took his bike and had a quick ride about.

    6) Bigger son and I spent an unhappy hour dismantling the woodburning stove (so heavy) and finding the back panel has not only distorted but has a crack! Went online to the page for our local town and asked if anyone could cut through the very corroded bolts for me (so I can replace the back panel).

Got a slightly stroppy reply that the local page wasn't to be used for such requests. Thought no more of it.

Then had messages from a local man (who had seen my request) about the stove, that he'd have a look at it. Turns out he is a stove fitter! He is coming round tomorrow. :-D

    7) Bigger son has gone to games night with my brother and brother in law.

    8) Had a tasty tea (before bigger son left!) of HM wedges, LO gammon, baked beans, tomatoes and fried eggs.

    9) In bed now with 2 hwb (missing the stove, no central heating and it was minus 3 at 7pm). Will watch Winterwatch just now.

So looking forward to tomorrow now and someone who knows what they are doing looking at the stove! I am a big fan of them and often look round stove showrooms and search for them online.

Oh yes, and about 2cm of snow here. As usual, drove down the hill out of the village and nothing! But plenty on the hills in the distance.
  • My five for today are;

    1) Beautiful sunny day although freezing.

    2) Anniversary of dads death today so met up with Mum and siblings and went to the crematorium. Time is so odd - it seems a lifetime since I last talked to dad but the years have passed so quickly.

    3) Afterwards we went to a nearby garden centre and had lunch together. We have done this every year for the past 11 years. Mum is now 87 and amazing for her age. I just hope I'm as fit mentally and physically when I get to that age.

    4) Ham and cheese toasted sandwiches then yoghurt for dinner.

    5) More episodes of Outlander while knitting tonight.

I'm always glad when we get to February xx

    Been taking it easy.

    1. Lovely sunrise.

    2. Clear, crisp days.

    3. Back improving.

    4. Easy tea that didn't involve too much standing.

    5. Reading magazines.

    Wednesday pleasures,

Woke up to a white world, stunning with the sunrise.

A stoat suddenly appeared under the hedge in the back garden and played in the snow for around 30 minutes right in front of our dining room window. I managed to get a video of him, handsome little chap and a rare sight.

Butternut squash and cumin soup for lunch.

Also made a NS loaf, strange recipe as no kneading and mixture was very sticky as had treacle in but very yummy.

Lazy afternoon reading on sofa and dozing.

Watched back to back episodes of Silent Witness.
  • No pleasures today, taxman takes tooooo much!
    Don't Start
  • I was rather shocked in chatting to the neighbour, should anything happen here, we don't need to go out, we have the freezer full, long life milk and part baked long life rolls.
Our only issue is the last time we actually purchased fresh fruit and veg was a while ago now as I had built up a lot over christmas and I am just today using the last of it.
The neighbour though said he would last about 4 days, we are very different people. :o

    For yesterday
1 More wash loads of living room curtains and cushions, an animal load and our bedding.
2 Used up leftover pork in a roll for lunch, and last weeks rtc cooked chicken leftovers will be build your own wrap tonight.
3 I am now planning to finish glossing landing stairs and hallway. When I've finished the living room and kitchen ceilings need sugar soaping and then re painting.
4 Burnt 3 very large bin bags of paperwork, working on the principle no one is hanging clothes out today.
    5 House is clean again.

    For a cold day today
1 A lay in, I was dragged up by the animals.
2 Stuck to the meal planning, and tonights casserole is slow cooking in the oven smelling lovely.
3 Some online banking and sorning the car all done.
4 With no fresh veg or fruit I could do with popping out later but I know people will be panic buying so maybe I'll hold off, I'll see what the weather has in store we can live on frozen if needs be.
5 Extra bird food out for the extra birds who seem hungry in this weather.
