pirate Pete smi ( so much information! ) hope all goes well
Well good morning and hurrah it's Friday and where I come from its Halloween (always last Friday in October) so boo sucks to Pirate Pete and happy Halloween!
I'm up slightly earlier than intended as friend texted me this morning to see if I can have her daughter and take her to school...of course!
Work was fabby last night but oh my back! Any tips for stopping it seize up whilst standing for 5 hours are welcome!
Yesterday was a just keep going kind of day. Made meringues, made a gingernut and honeycomb tiffin ( still to be taste tested) and white chocolate crispie nests with a scary spider in it.
The plasterer turned up 'on the off chance' and that would be an actually this does not suit at all! There is much that needs replastered (that has all been painted ) that I'm not happy about and builder not happy about. It's shocking in some places. I've spent a lot of money and it doesn't look it in some places! Anyway, too much a job for him ( he was under the impression it was just a few wee areas) so boss man to come out!
My monthly magazine came and oooooh my favourite One Christmas!
Have a good day!0 -
Morning all - was up bright and early today. there is much to be done (webinar slides for my monday webinar, yoga, oiling garden furniture, going to fetch a small table i have just bought of FB marketplace, upcycling said table - oh, and work work
)
Hope bum test OK, BOP. OH has those too - and a good thing, I think.
Missed Wednesday's pleasures so
1. washing my hair with Lush avocado and lime shampoo. I only wash my hair every 4 or 5 days so have decided i can afford to be ethical (and I get it half price through DD ). Don't even need conditioner which, on my hair, is something of a miracle. it smells divine - edible!!
2. Oiling garden furniture - i do like to see it soaking in. Today's session should see it finished
3. OH and I booked a holiday to Tenerife in January - we used the remainder of my airmiles I built up when travelling to work for the flight and are going to stay in SiL's timeshare so it's cheap as chips.
4. OH cooked sausage and veg for tea.. yum. Low carbing is working really well for him.
5. DD had a lovely time visiting her friend
And for yesterday
1. Train to London with DD - it was a two egg, two rosti breakfast. Always a good start
2. British library to do some work whilst DD met up with another friend (she is on hols this week and has used it to catch up with people - I do worry she is a bit isolated). Library was rather noisy...
3. Chapple lunch (cheese and apple) eaten in the churchyard of St Anne's church, Wardour street - who thoughtfully provide a huge wooden table and benches. i do love those little pockets of calm in the middle of the busy city.
4. DD and I then met up to go to Stephen Sondheim's 'Company'. We had got super cheap tickets (with a slightly restricted view but it didn't detract). it was extremely classy - funny and poignant. Kind of a play with singing rather than a classic musical
5. Train home - we had dinner (Bombay potato curry). Looked like a starter portion but was enough. OH picked us up as we'd walked a long way
A cheeky 6. Ambulance - such a fab programme though sometimes a difficult watch
Have a good day allI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Thursday pleasures,
A difficult work situation resolved, felt sorry for someone used as a go-between but relieved all sorted.
Capt S treated me to lunch out, making the most of him working from home for final few days, had the veggie option and it was delicious.
Lazy afternoon, watched The Post, a very good film.
Evening walk with small dog followed by Extra Slice, hungry at 9pm so had crumpets
New book, Merry Midwinter by G Monks.0 -
My [STRIKE]five[/STRIKE] seven for yesterday (Thursday):
1. Another 'free day' as DD and family (inc Nathan) are still at Disney Paris - feels strange to not be spending time with him.
2. Phone call from DS2 - inviting me to 'come and stay at their house for four days in January' :j. Only drawback ...................... he and DDiL won't be there - it'll just be ME plus DGS2 (age17), DGS3 (age10) and DGS4 (age2).
3. Had to go to local pharmacy to collect prescription - Gluten Free Prescriptions are still being done in our area, so got 2pks Bran Flakes, 1pk Cornflakes, 1pk Rice Cereal and 2pks Flour Mix - bread has had to be ordered, so that it's as fresh as possible (4 small loaves to go in freezer). I'm supposed to be able to get these items each month, but I only order every 2 or 3 months.
4. Called into Lidl while I was 'in that direction' - got some boneless chicken thighs (£2.35), mixed peppers (91p), mushrooms (78p) and curry sauce (89p) - I'll make some Chicken Rogan Josh curries for OH for the freezer. Also got some 'baby pots' (65p), yoghurts (8 for £1.09) and a jar of their delicious Thick Cut Marmalade (49p).
5. As my bus went sailing past the stop, I ended my little shopping venture with a coffee in MaccyD's (right next to the bus stop). Very strange that it was totally empty of kids - especially given that it's half-term holiday here just now . Now got a 'full sticker card' for a free coffee next time round! Also got the receipt to get Big Mac and Fries for £1.99 next time
.
6. Did Haddock, baby pots and steamed green beans for OH while I had '[STRIKE]Macaroni[/STRIKE] Penne Cheese' (LO White Lasagne Sauce with cheese added and GF Penne Pasta).
7. The day ended with Emmerdale x 2 and Vera :T.0 -
Bum test done.
7 Polyps snared. All done. First appointment had eaten. So I git an extra time on table. One on me ... was snared as well. Took twenty minutes for the last one! He was determined.
4 Lunch. Reversion foods. Meatballs in Tom sauce with span sandwich. Yummy.
3 Quack was well impressed with it all.
2 BoPsie is recovering!
Had one today!
And relax0 -
bop - quickly wellwishing for your procedures today.

1. Spits underwhelming yesterday, but at least no more thefts, no breakages. Others weren't spared. Some small banking will doubtless be swept away, as was my left front mirror last night by truck - snarl. Have just phoned fenboys.....
2. Heard earlier about this on R4 - YUMYUM, booking early.

3. Lots of French spoken @ Spits yesterday, always &'s pleasure. Also lovely to see D. again. Long, long restorative talk with him. Then mutual chat with R, NY buyer, 84, who had left a parcel behind on &'s pitch. Introduced them:-) D and she also had lovely talks re her NY [D lived there, too]: Finland, her next stops, Riga and Vilnius, where D also lived for a year. & thinks there is nowhere D has not lived:-)
vjm, he's also living in Drl Researcher Land: Kings - Lilly Reich.
4. Reverbe'd 40p on stall at start of day[felt this was prophetic, rightly so], then 5p while loading at end. Nine of your Earth shillings is a Yippee!
5. Having recently treated self to entire CD series of Cabin Pressure, enjoyed 1,2,+3 hugely on the There and Back, more than once :-)

Next anticipatories - in no order, grape composting, vine jungle ditto, banking, free cappucino-ing, loads of eteceteras, posting[fao. dfv], surgery, car unload, tutoring resumes, ABs v.Wobblies in Japan

............... Reverbe'd 40p on stall at start of day .........
Oooh - I remember Reverbe from a few years ago. Has anybody heard from her recently? I DO recall how she was always spotting 'money from angels' when she was out and about - hope she's properly settled 'home wise' these days.0 -
Well done, BoP.
I prefer the new Ambulance series, VJsmum. I recognised too many places in the previous series and the old people having exactly the same accents as my grandparents on occasion was a bit upsetting.
Pleasures for today (Friday, at last!)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Smaller son had a good day at school and bigger son had a short and reasonable day at college.
3) Called the washing machine mending man again as he did not mend it after all yesterday... not coming until the 1st! Pile of washing at mum's now...
4) The man phoned about my new front door, so that's exciting. It will be fitted on the 6th.
5) Hens well and had a little chat with them.
6) Went to see my neighbour to give her some sloes and she gave me some pineapple jam she made yesterday plus some cooking apples in return! Interesting news about the other little row of houses off our road - the end garden of one is subsiding which suggests a coal mine collapse (colliery about 300 metres from the end of my garden shut in the 1960s but you never know about smaller, family run former mines).
7) 3 people have got in touch wanting to buy my piano so far which means I probably should have advertised it at a higher price.
8) Chips from the van for tea.
9) Bigger son has gone to see a rapper in Birmingham, on the train, meeting other friends then staying in a Travellodge!
10) Babysat my niece for a bit including picking her up from nursery. She is so funny :-D I took our Lego with me so she saw it as she got in the car and said, "I was not expecting to see the Lego in the car. Oh, I am looking forward to playing with it SO MUCH" !
I stopped off to get the hen food and my sons would have a) got out of the car with me, inspected the shop and talked the hens and the man to death or b) stayed in the car and messed with things until they broke something. I asked if she wanted to get out and she said, "No, I would like to wait in the car" and she didn't even move! I wonder what it is like to have a really placid child!
In bed with 2 hwb now and am going to watch television from this point on.0 -
Bop, glad the procedure is all done and dusted.
Lainey, Glad work is improving hope it's less stressful.
Mhags, I'm in awe of your cooking creations, I'm thinking of going on a cooking course but I'm not sure if I like cooking that much.....
1 We’ve made plans to visit Beaulieu specifically to incorporate the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang exhibit, I got us passes last Christmas as DH has always wanted to go back but we never make the time, so we have had to before they run out. Looking forward to it as I’ve never been.
2 Leftover chicken in an amazing HM gravy with rtc roasties it was lovely.
3 I managed to concentrate on reading again today, and it was lovely to lose myself into a storey for a while.
4 My first ever attempt at making a cheese cake today, inherited ginger biscuits, I inherited a lot of them about 40 packs I was able to give 20 away but that’s still a lot left, so some made the base, phili for the middle and hm cherry jam on the top. It’s nice to be cooking things again even if they are bad for me things. I could always freeze portions but doubt I will.:D
5 Everything is being blended, with our new to us, second hand Bamix blender which is great, I was dubious as low wattage but it is fantastic and sturdy, far better made.:T0 -
In bed at a time I would normally still be at work! For one night only!
Very busy day.
Baked. Made the most delicious honeycomb and tablet cupcakes. Turned my little meringues into 'ghosties' with chocolate icing faces. Tried my ginger and honeycomb tiffin. Yum. Made a ginger/ chocolate cheesecakey cake. Licked the bowl!
Went into town with DD2 . I parked at l!dl where I had a £5 off voucher ( also passed 2 on to random strangers! Nice to be nice!
Then we had a nice lunch out and then a nip into cheapy charity shop. One jacket, three jumpers and a fabby pair of wellies ( for work) with laces at the front! £2 for the boots. Look new, they're mid calf so as long as I don't go in too deep a ditch I should be dry! Will be perfect with the thick thermal socks I got in Lidl. Then got a free little felt pumpkin bag for GN ...how much for that? Oh just take it! Thank you.
Nip into M&S , met a few people I knew. One who's husband is quite ill. She'd asked something along the lines of how was I and I would know how she felt and I said I'd had a harder week than expected and she said oh, you've not settled ? And I thought it's not really a matter of not settling it's a matter of now doing a life on my own when I'd much rather I still had my husband! And I knew she doesn't get it yet but that sadly she will soon. Sigh! I really don't want to have to say things that make me cry in bloody M&S...please just accept an I'm okay and talk about the weather rather than pushing a conversation where someone clearly doesn't want it to go!
So the weather! Blooming cold start and finish. Stunning moon tonight. Almost full and huge and bright in a clear sky. It was 4o first thing but brightened in to a beautiful day. Not warm but bright and sunny and washing actually dried.
Library bus came and I took the chap a cake! Then took some over to my neighbours across road then some down to my friend/ neighbour. Haggis came too and had a play with his old lady dog.
The niecely people were here for tea and for trick or treating. What a fabulously decorated street we have! A very chatty witch ( straight across road) was our first visitor. I think her mummy may be expecting...hmmmm....watch this space!
Getting the third email from kitchen company with each time the person using my 'proper' name which I absolutely do not go by...and each time using in reply the name that I do use! I replied today , Regards, M ( never , ever M) got an oops sorry reply ! Surely ( unless an official document) you would use the name that you're introduced with and sign off with? Anyway , replacement parts are in !
Friend popped I for a bit tonight then I dropped DD and her friend off. Friend was dressed as a very slender and very tall domanatrix and DD as a unicorn!
Chatted with my son! Before he headed for his mountains. He's been in bed as we are coming in from work. Feel I'm communicating ( rather one sidedly of course ) by text!0
