5 OS pleasures in your day today - part 3

Pleasures for today (Thursday).
1) Not a bad sleep, apart from being woken at 4.25am by bigger son as I had left the keys in the door and he couldn't get in! He enjoyed the clubbing and a 3.30am McDonalds but he doesn't like staying overnight away from home so had motorcycled home.
2) Smaller son's school had a half day so picked him up at 12.20 and we went out for lunch.
3) Quick shop in Sainsburys.
4) Made meatballs and spaghetti for tea plus Bolognese sauce which will either go with pasta tomorrow or be turned into a lasagne.
5) Been in bed for a while watching tv as I feel a bit under the weather.
Got the paperwork this lunchtime for smaller son's annual review (for his special needs provision) and every single target they set him has a red box by it and he is basically failing in all areas. Not quite sure what I am supposed to make of this. The meeting is on Wednesday morning - again, they say they told me ages ago but I have no record of it and certainly no email from them.
The main problem is homework because he won't do it. Threats and/or bribes don't work and he won't do it in school either. He is now incredibly stressed at any mention of it (I think there are 11 pieces outstanding now) and is in detention every single lunchtime.
So none of school's strategies are working... I usually smile and nod through every meeting but wonder if I should be doing something between now and Wednesday! Smaller son now hates school and asks me every day if I can home school him (a ghastly thought).0 -
1 One of those days that just worked out well, we had planned to go across the bridge and the journey worked out.
2 We did the cheap shops and everything we needed was exceedingly cheap, thou it feels odd to pick up courgettes from home bargains, and half price Stork.
3 Our bathroom is small, the length of the bath probably both ways, so when we were out it we picked up a ridiculously soft deep pile rug from the range and decided that can be the new carpet, so then popped over to B and Q and picked up some Valspar paint I’m going to paint the tiny thing a light teal blue with ice blue gloss and it will keep me busy next week. Did I mention I’m useless at painting?
4 We had a drink and bite to eat at C0stco and picked up a few bits there.
5 I had a promising call about a contract.0 -

Frith Just a thought.......some people with ASC like to compartmentalise different parts of their life. E.g 'School', 'Home' etc. Homework will 'contaminate' the 'Home' box with 'School' stuff. If school just didn't give him homework......problem solved. (Could there be somewhere in the school day he could do this work, ........if they called it something else?). Do school realise that the EHCP is a plan for them to do something to support small son? Do school need to ask advice from the Educational Psychologist?
Yesterday
1. Unexpected trip to local gardens to put up the fence we have made.
2. Started our project to turn an old piano into a desk. Managed to get the whole group involved.
3. Came home early.
4. Watched another Vera.
5. Chat with DS1.
Bricklayers have done something annoying, but I don't think we can solve it. Will just have to live with it for the rest of my life!
Have a lovely day0 -
Thursday pleasures,
Woke up to a misty world, gradually cleared and we had a beautiful, sunny afternoon.
Out to the emporium and ignored all the evil products BOPfood is expensive enough without spending money on so much carp, have recently had to increase budget to allow for increases.
Nothing won on the premium bonds but our wine delivery arrived, stored away and good to know that for us it was free :j
Finished latest book, the Winter King by B Cornwell, brutal in places but an interesting take on the Arthurian legend.
Watched the last in series of Upstart Crow, no spoiler but I cried!0 -
My 5 for Yesterday -
1. Back to DD's for more 'Nathan sitting' - to find a mountain of laundry in various stages of 'sorted / washed / partially dried' and 'piled for bedrooms'. Nathan said that Mum asked could I finish it off - :undecided ........................... not sure about that, but couldn't contact DD as she was in College.
2. hmmm - no soap powder/laundry liquid ................. the plot thickens and Nathan 'disappears off out'. Got soap powder and conditioner from local 'corner shop' at exorbitant price  and just 'got on with the job' - had to use TD, so not very Old-style!
3. Phoned Nathan - not answering. Sent text - no reply. Methinks he had 'a plot a-foot' .................. no signs of him at lunch-time - his hollow-legs must be feeling extremely empty by this time!
4. Noise at front-door and in walked Nathan (ducking his head to get under door-frame). No explanation of absence - NOT getting into an argument over it ................... DD could sort him out when she gets back home.
5. DGD2 (Little Miss Sunshine) arrived home from school - no homework - could she please go out to meet friends. Grabbed Sausage Roll, got changed and disappeared with a hug and kiss and .
6. DD returned - and all was revealed!!! Nathan was supposed to go to buy Soap Powder/Conditioner with money that DD gave him. PLUS he'd been asked to put the damp laundry into the TD and 'ask' me to do the next wash-load ........................ no wonder he disappeared for most of the day . Won't fall for that trick next time. I think I'm more annoyed at having to pay 'corner shop price' for the powder, when I could have gone to Aldi on the way to their house.
7. Most relieved to return home yesterday! Had made a 'sort-of-Bolognese Sauce' in the morning (using left-over salady-bits from funeral), so just fried off some Minced Beef and Onions/Garlic and mixed the sauce in with it. GF Pasta for both of us - not using up two pans for pasta.
8. Feet up - Emmerdale and Vera - what total bliss!
Frith - sorry to read that son's school are being that way with him. We had similar over Nathan. The school insisting that 'they could manage his condition/behaviour', but then failing him in ALL directions. Insisting that he was 'On Target' for 5 GCSE's - oh yeah!; when he couldn't read his own handwriting - and never did any homework. Arrived back home on one occasion and when DD rang the school, they said he was fine and had settled down for the day. No comment when she asked 'Well how come he's sitting here right now?' They quite enjoy the 'extra funding' that's available to them and don't want to lose that if the child is taken out to go to a different school; but don't want to put in the extra work that's needed to support the child's extra needs! PLEASE speak up at your next meeting with them and DEMAND to know what THEY are doing to support him. They should be communicating with the EdPsych as well. ((((HUGS)))) for you and your DS.0 -
Flexi is a wonderful thing. In conjunction with an INSET day 80% of us are sleeping in, so I have the house to myself!
Frith - delighted to hear elder son appears to have found new ventures now 18, so sorry younger is at cross purposes with education & worst that you feel a bit under the weather.
Mhagster - delighted to hear the changes are blossoming, and with luck a few more bricks (and yes bother them for showing up on their time not having the courtesy to tell you who are paying them!) and all will be structurally sorted. Muffled cheers of delight so's not to wake baby but hurrah & welcome great nephew!
Olliebeak - we found Dr Who was an exercise in location spotting a few series back - but holidaying in S Wales & visiting the CADW castles - it was inevitable BBC Cardiff & our paths would cross!
OldTractor - good to hear you again!
BoP - eagerly awaiting masterclass in Christmas cake, here... Am resigned to Raffles snoozing for a few months - been busy!
Hopeless Case - awed at setting to righting the border armed with just a trowel and garden fork.
Purple kitten - enjoy every mince pie going - I hold they have a season [Dec 1 - 31] to give my abused waistline a sporting chance! Ah, Costco...
DundeeDoll - rather enjoying parsing "breakfast meeting, her buy, yummy bacon sarnie and i have a keynote" as different inflections change the meanings brilliantly...
Mrs LW, to hear your happy plans over the woodburning stove are a pleasure in themselves - like eavesdropping on children placing every penny of their pocket money on the Most Rewarding sweets!
Anyone seen Ampersand? Quite prepared to believe she is away hunting exotica & researching but I miss someone to attend Compline.
OS Pleasures recently
Triple satin embossed - honestly, when did loo roll get so exotic? Still, having it when needed & arranging delivery to those not so fortunate, pleasing.
"Hi vis today." "Ooh the glamour! Still, I remembered my thick socks." Dress code with hi viz includes safety boots which are not worn often enough to be comfortable & hard hats which do unappealing things to hairstyles. Bless my colleagues for their dry humour!
"No point to the 5 second rule when you've a 2 second dog..." while it's sad to loose a colleague at least he's just moving not leaving & the humour will still be within reach.
Home made ANZAC biscuits are a serious pleasure to come home to.
Just thinking about MrsLW's Mick Inkpen book. His Kipper books were splendid & I hadn't planned to buy new but had stocked a nursery bookcase with volumes I was prepared to read & reread! But Kipper & co <sigh of affectionate nostalgia>
Disk of Kit & The Widow arrived & is two disks not one! Excellent! "Les enfants du parody" will divert this afternoon sideways...
"Posture assessment updating" - technology has has come to a bit of a pass when it wants my deportment to improve before I may access work data!
"I'm only human after all, don't put the blame on me" after we have bought & concealed Algernon....
"He's a magician & worked in the Manhattan Project" - a slight misunderstanding of the role of Robert M Price, mathematician.
Upstart Crow just brilliant. Odd how having your heart wrung is a pleasure.
Observing bat jinking through twilight. Honoured.
Spent 10 minutes sat flattening & folding bags for life. Strangely meditative & calming, as well as eco- & wallet-friendly. (Ignored son's expression.)
Son brought me a cup of tea with no prompting! (He may regard this as a downpayment on a lift for him, a mate & 2 mountain bikes later.)
Right, this small island of peace is lurching. Health, strength, all power to assorted elbows, may your contractors arrive on time, and may compassion & hot water be readily available as needed.

Not a stayer is BoP!
V Blood out of the stone. Took BoPsie to the clinic this morning as she is starving. They failed to get blood out of her, I don’t know! She is still with cold, so please if you can say a word to others, I would kick up a stink! She is still with cold!
4 Tonight BoP is out with his can of red paint and hitting the tiles. Film and curry mes thinks.
3 Booked the Tea Party. Had too! Boston, December. BoP on Tour again! 63 days time. More later! BoPsie is with butterflies in the tummy!
2 And now it is time to open BoP’s packed Luncheon Box!
Not having one again.
More adventures with BoP on Tour soon!0 -
oooh, DigForVictory - another Bag-for-Life folder :j. It's my OH who gives me the 'rolleyes look' when I make a start on them :rotfl:.0

1) We have bought a wood burner! it's an 'Ivar 5' made by Dik Geurts.
2) We'd only been home half an hour when we got a call from the woodstove compaking if they could come and install it on 7th November? WOW!
3) Just had the first mince pie of the winter with a cup of tea, Mmmmmm!
4) Good haul of new library books this morning and two new to me authors in amongst them.
5) The colour in the verges on the roadside as we passed, it's going to be stunning this year when we get that first frost.0
