  • Friday, Saturday & Sunday pleasures

All three days dry & bright, but only Friday very warm.

    Lovely sunsets Friday & Saturday

Bright moon & clear skies with at least half a dozen stars visible even with all the light pollution - all 3 nights

In a routine with putting DH’s eyedrops in

DH can see shadows & shapes - apparently will take 2/3 weeks before he can see properly :(

Of course this means that the list of odd jobs I started for DH is getting longer :rotfl:

Chinese takeaway Friday night which also did for Saturday night

Sunday dinner - used up nearly everything in the fridge including los :T

Fox has visited all 3 nights

    Reading other posters pleasures

Frith hope bigger son recovers soon from his latest accident.

    1. Spent some time in the garden.and planted some bulbs. All the ones from MIL house are now planted.

    2. Met friends for lunch. It was enjoyable and had been ages since we saw them. We must arrange to see them more often. We caught up with all their news. Their son is getting married next summer.

    3. Home and more gardening done.

    4. Glass of wine in the garden with DH.

    5. DS2 cooked tomato soup with my home grown tomatoes which was lovely.

    Sunday pleasures,

Up early, heating not yet on so snuggled under blanket.

Knee still painful so self prescribed a day of complete rest, hard to do as I’m a ‘fidgeter’ or as my Grandma used to say ‘ that child’s got ants in her pants’ :rotfl:

Caught up with all things Ambridge, read a lot, watched a Poirot and of course there was the golf :j

Little dog cuddles and being looked after by Capt S.

Talking of whom, he received email to say use or lose it on BA points accumulated years ago when he travelled more for business, only option was to order wine, quite a lot of it :T

Good Morning everybody :hello: - another beautiful morning here in Merseyside :j.

    5 for yesterday -

    1. Woke up to realise that I'd slept right through the night - not even a single trip to the loo :T. Wonder if the glass of wine and 2 btls lager on Saturday had had something to do with that ............. ;) :undecided:.

    2. Morning was dull/overcast - seemed strange after a full week of beautiful mornings - but good for the grass :T.

    3. Great service in church and lovely to see friend whose DH died the previous week. We're hosting his 'Celebration of Life' this week, so plans afoot for the catering.

    4. Quick pop into Lidl for fresh milk - resisted all other temptations :j.

    5. Back home and decided on a snooze ...........

    6. OH still feeling the effects of his BBQ 'Meat Overload' from Saturday, so didn't bother cooking ................. just a sandwich each around 9.00pm :D!

Frith - sorry to hear about your son's accident - but great that his 'protectives' did their job. I suppose this is how they all learn - by having small accident / getting back on again / not making same mistake again :T. My DGS1 is 17 and always tinkering with engines - I only ever hear them trying to 'turn over' ...................... dreading the day when he thinks he's' got it working'!

V Raffles our cat is so wanting his morning feast, that he was inn nudge mode this morning. He was soon fed after BoP had groomed himself to look great! BoPsie is still with cold!

4 Inn BoP’s luncheon box this weak is the usual good foods, and today we has toms and cucumber, with a snorker! Cheese, strawbs, jelly and oranges. Two chocolate biscuits as well! Tum is being vigorously rubbed!

3 Becus BoP made proper cottage pie yesterday, topped with creamy cheese mash put on by BoPsie, there is enuffs left for tea this evening and more. Unfortunately, we are now out of Spotted Richard!

2 Which means that time of year for the fruits for the xmas cake, will be wallowing in some bourbon later this weak. Details later. YiPee it is cake time! Recipe to follow shortly. Or, and pudding as well. None of the emporium carp around here! Watch this space on Saturday!

Having one today as well. Someone at mill is in grandmother mode. No way do we accept that Rich Tea biscuits should be even bought to the building, never mind the boiler house! He will not do it again!

There’s no argument about it, really!

Oof struggling to get back into the work today after handing in on Friday - especially as I discovered an error (nothing major, but annoying. I've added a note to my submission, correcting it - but still annoying)...:(

Some pleasures to put me in a better mood

    1. did a bit of a shop in Aberdovey on Saturday in a sale.
    2. Walked back along the beach - it is the most glorious 2 miles of beach which, if on a greek island, would be on all the postcards
    3. cooked tarte tatin while listening to news quiz
    4. went to the AGM of the railway - was dull, dull, dull but friend and I kept getting the giggles..
    5. Evening with friends, dinner at theirs (with my tarte tatin for pud) and then the pub. OH came back from his hols and joined us in the pub (doesn't do to be waiting in - he'll think i've missed him ;)). Had a row with friend (a very constrained row) over women's rights and sexual harassment. Like he'd know....

That was Saturday - and for yesterday

    1. Had a lie in till 9 o'clock - had to kick OH out the bed pretty soon after he got in it cos he was snoring fit to bust. welcome home love :rotfl:
    2. OH cooked Begg for breakfast
    3. Did a circuit by the sea
    4. train journey back was tolerable, OH had to carry my new sidetable
    5. Then he cooked salmon for tea

Right, I'd better do something.... have a good day all
I wanna be in the room where it happens
  • 1) Fab day yesterday with DD1, James and the boys much fun had and now feel very family!

    2) Beautiful sunshine today, bit chilly out there but so pretty.

    3) Found a lovely new to us Garden centre in Ross that makes VERY good coffee.

    4) The wood burner man is here and we can have a free stander wood stove after all, his first thoughts in the show room were that we could only have an inset stove as the lounge is upstairs.

    5) Being able to buy 'wonky veg' in several supermarkets and today wonky onions in Morrisons, I love the fact that the wonkys aren't being ploughed back into the fields and wasted and that hopefully the farmers are being paid for their crops, all of it!
  • Haven't posted for a few days, busy weekend with DD2 home and family and garden stuff :):)

    - Bought a half price apple tree which I'm trying to work out where to plant, but it'll pay for itself in no time :)

    - I've got most of the geraniums in and cuttings taken and even worked out where to keep them over the winter, and salad/spring onions/garlic in most pots so far

    - I feel back in my routine today after our holiday and have a grip on meals and general frugality etc, which makes me happy :)

    - There are now loads of late flowers on the nasturtiums and some seeds developing so I won't have to buy more seed next year

    - Think I'm back to the weight I was before the all-inclusive holiday - now to lose the weight I need to lose :o:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

What ho all! Another month already? Eek.

Frith - preparing for an 18th - very much a time of pondering but yours is hand in hand with vigorous virtuous domestic activity. Oh my word, what a party. Crutches, airport viewing, a family curry & then haul the body up the staircase?! Well, it should be memorable. Safety gear worth every tuppence. Have the big team had a prod at him yet?
Mrs SD - oldest & healthiest but not the fittest? Doesn't seem wildly unreasonable, & congratulations on being healthiest! Glad to hear retina reattachment went well - Very Boring just after. Eyedrop routine needed - I recommend a tickbox spreadsheet if more than 3 sorts of medication in use, each on their own timetables.
Hopeless case - a late show of roses? Lovely! Family get together with Mary Berry Chocolate cheesecake - sounds as if it should go splendidly.
LaineyT - a nice farrier is above rubies. Botherations to sore knee. but rest really the best treatment. Only option to order wine - and whyever not?
Olliebeak - the young male is a strange critter but if they want pound bakery food, it saves nervous wear & tear to cooperate. Mistranscriptions from Census data can be hilarious & also infuriating. I'm sorry to hear Guides can be sniffy about second hand uniform - could she try Scouts instead? Family get together sounds glorious. Sleeping right through a real pleasure!
VJsmum - all your work done early but himself was outcountry on a train? So glad dentist was useful initially. Cold fixodent - yikes. Aberdovey & "two halfs by the sea" sounds wonderful! OH joining you in pub, as you rightly say, wouldn't do to let him think he's been missed.
BoP - hope funeral of aunt went smoothly & that distribution of Scotch egg has been clarified for future reference. Alas will no longer be able to gawk at emporium craziness - local emp has closed & will reopen as a coop. It's not Stir Up Sunday for another month - how long do you raise & feed your cake for?!
Purple kitten - well done on the 30p flowers still going! The downside of cleaning upstairs is that you do have to do something with the downstairs too, but still hurrah! "Freezer is happy" - lovely idea!
DundeeDoll - paisley sounds good. Why give up the wobbleade when you are metconning etc? I'm gathering bingewatching the bodyguard is worth it, then?! Awed at mum taking in London/Venice!
Mrs LW - delighted to hear both you settling into new home & Zebra into school. Macmillan morning convivial? Woodstove & associated wood burning coming together!
mhagster - do not let the buildery peeps get you down. It's your house & it'll be glorious when they are finished & gone. Very well done on hitching on NUS card! Blackberrying with GN? Excellent - child labour always best use of your energy.
House elf - I gather Killing Eve is wonderful? Glad DD home but yikes the logistics triggered by delayed flight!
villagelife - very glad to hear DS2 & girl happy together, as much so that your back is in a better place at the moment - long may both continue! Ulp no concussion just a hurt neck. Hurrah hm home-grown tomato soup - yum!
Towser - good stuff & well done on the flu jab!
marmiterulesok - ah leek & potato soup - it is definitely getting to be the right season for it! Likewise knitting, says she thinking of cold draughts around the ears this morning.

    OS Pleasures recently
Clubcard points reduced cost of car breakdown cover. A noisy wheel bearing sounds pretty gruesome.

    Turned out sunny after rain!

Son delivered chit to old school allowing them to get his exam paper which they asked for for reference! He's rather proud & so, I think, are his teachers.

Dropped off four bags of outgrown trousers & no longer needed school uniform at favourite cs.

Family chip supper - not real MS but still a pleasure to be all together and chuckling together.

The Saturday morning flu jab clinic is a reminder of how community should be. All ages queuing cheerfully, helping each other on & off with coats & layers, chortling at the bragging rights & clearly here by preference to the alternative. The teens are treated with a respectful courtesy (we all assume they are carers & thus someone's lifeline) & they seem to stand an inch or two taller for it.

"What is it with you and Lenin?" "He owes me money." Fraternal persiflage bewildering as ever.

Watching a program about Rolls Royce but chiefly enjoying "Miss Shilling's orifice" (for the name, and then the engineering)

Puttered down to find son cooking breakfast & having to change plans repeatedly as we're short or out of things. Like bread - however did we manage that?! Still one lad cooking for a pal is enough in the kitchen & I've retreated to make a pot of tea. When the others awake I will have to be clear - porridge or pancakes...

    Glorious full moon!

Introduced colleague to Big Mac Hack - learned from MSE & presumed to be inevitable knowledge of mother of teenage sons. I smile & think that actually the chaps are fiendish picky but go along to be nice...

    Waved to tailor!

Eavesdropped on something husband was watching on YouTube & heard "diamond" - tuned in & alas science fiction but I have renewed hopes for synthetics. I'll have my own tiara yet, even if I do only wear it in the bath.

Husband lugged back a sheets & pillow case set, made in a mill less than two miles away, which closed about the year the eldest lad was born.... We love the keeping it local irony.

Son cooked an amazing curried chicken supper (with pomegranate, mango, cashews & spring onions) & kindly made enough for my birthday as well as gf. Kitchen looks like a bomb site but worth it.

Splendid charity shop finds (more Denby!) as well as books & boots.

Lovely neighbour back from excellent break in Northumbria - very happy tales of family shenanigans & utterly exhausted dogs!

Aw - the Japanese are doing amazing things with small robots on an asteroid. Low g means just vibrating is a viable form of motion!

Son tells me he & his mates have a plan - go to Costco, buy cake & eat it all "4 deaths by cake!". As I'm the planned cardholder & driver, I'm insisting they all give blood first. I may be the first vampire cabbie?

Following an assertion by a son that he'll do the washing up, we tightened up the time frame - before midnight tonight, not just sometime in the Holocene Epoch. (Things we look up when puzzled as to what came after the Cretaceous.)

Argh. Shiny side tinfoil in or out for wrapping baked potatoes turns out to be Utterly Immaterial and the shiny side is but a byproduct of the manufacturing process. I feel like a re-educated Little Endian.

"While you were away, I made a Pez Stonehenge." The youngest startles me on an almost routine basis.

Son appears to have developed a distaste for spiders. Given one of his future flatmates loves & keeps spiders, he may have to learn to clutch the book and not lash out with it....

Courage, strength, love, hugs, strong painkillers, ice packs, warm sweaters hats & gloves, to all as have need and fortitude in the teeth of less than 100 days to go.
