  • Hi there everyone. Have been rather remiss in posting - not because of no pleasures I hasten to add :rotfl:

    Pleasures from Tuesday onwards

Dropped off two large bags of donations to CS & had a nice chat with John who was the volunteer of the day :)

HM Beef & Stilton Pie with lashings of beefy Stilton gravy - two nights dinners taken care of + lo gravy now in freezer :T

First food & toiletries donations of the year to Whitechapel Mission - got a good workout as no lifts at two of the stations :D

Have managed to avoid getting wet on any forays out of the house :rotfl: even though the strong winds have made walking an ‘interesting’ exercise :rotfl:

Several calls from/to my DB in Germany - everyone is well & DB now has a permanent job :T

Today’s call from DB was the joyous news that the credit card I posted to him on the 3rd has finally arrived :T even though ‘Track & Trace’ said it was signed for on the 6th

Seeing the fox every night - it waits patiently in the road until it receives its tidbits from DSis :rotfl:

Planting in my ‘midriff’ high raised garden bed:T - my knees have started protesting at prolonged kneeling :rotfl:

DH has been skip ferreting again & now has enough wood to make a 2nd table top garden bed :T

Receiving a £25 cheque from T*ke A Bre*k weekly magazine - have been entering the comps for years & finally a prize :T:j:T Gave me as much pleasure as winnng a large prize.

Mixed sadness/pleasure - DH’s last surviving aunt died this morning but she was 97 years young & was surrounded by family.

Reading the joyful posts from all the other posters - especially those of you who have recently moved home - brave souls :D

There are many more pleasures but because I haven’t posted daily or written them down I have forgotten precise details :o

I will try to do better :rotfl:

  • 1) It wasn't raining when we woke up! and the wind had died down BUT last night was INTERESTING!

    2) Finally made it to the weekly local produce market in the Memorial hall and it was really good. We got local pork scotch eggs, local grown corn on the cob, local made (5 miles) single Gloucester cheese and local made pickled onions. It's so nice to get local produce I'll go every week if I can, apparently there are some 30 producers and invited guests but the hall is too small for them all to fit in so there is a rota and the stalls change from week to week.

    3) More unpacking achieved, HWK has built one set of shelves in the storeroom and is building the bigger set now so hopefully we'll be able to find things we want without having to hunt through numerous boxes.

    4) Made us a green veg vegan biryani for lunch, so nice having all my cook books back to play with, was delicious too!

    5) The cup of tea I'm about to make us …..in anticipation!!!

    :T

We have a 'Whitechapel Mission' in Liverpool that our church helps support with donations. Last year we made up some 'shoeboxes' containing hats/scarves/gloves/toiletries/small treats like chocolate etc.

Evening all. I'm sat up in bed trying to keep cosy.

Today I have really , really tried my best to be kind and pleasant to all who are builderly .
I have however moaned to my friend when walking the dogs.

Moaned to my other friend and when her daughter told me it was national gratitude day I thanked her for being my friend and listening to me moaning and continued to moan.

Moaned to my other friend who had kindly messaged me to see if I'd like to go to a charity afternoon tea , she would pick me up. I won a lavender talcum and soap set...I may be of a certain age to use it by the time everything is finished. She came back in to see progress and agreed it would be worth it in the end. I fear that may also be on my headstone..'she said it would be worth it!'

Met another friend-ish person I've not seen in a long time. Our kids went to playgroup together and we'd see each other from time to time. So had a very brief 8 year catch up! And a nice hug!

My son and I have just had pizza using an 1/3 off coupon and plenty left for lunch tomorrow. He's not going away this weekend as he's skint and needs to keep his money for petrol for work next week.

In the land of the builder some plastering was done, some bricklaying was done , the roofers disappeared when the rain started but then it stopped and they never came back. So my velux Windows couldn't go in. In the eye of the storm the labourer cut back the overhanging roof underlay from about 12" to 1" this had allowed lashing rain to come in through my laundry room window . I am so displeased. Main builder will be here tomorrow and he better be listening! Other junior builder chap saying I told him not to do that. Main builder has not been here since Monday.

Lovely chat with the electrician' no one is keeping me in the loop ' said he 'feels' thought I!

However nice dog walks, nice chat on phone, nice catch up with friend and lots of lovely cakes, won a raffle prize...lavender talc anyone? Better music played loudly. And the dog didn't step in the quick setting concrete screed on the kitchen floor! We also have a working sink and a heated towel rail in the main bathroom .

    And smile:)

Grateful on National Gratitude Day for having a space to vent/moan/cheer/encourage right here!
  • 1 Off to the docs for an injection nice and easy to park and nano seconds later out.
2 As we were up we thought lets do something so we travelled with a mission to go to the shop that made my wedding ring that was stolen earlier this year. So off we plunder only to find our car is to tall for the park and ride, then a long while finding a space but we got there, and things kind of went from bad to worse as we tracked the shop down which is also on the web now and it’s shut down, so we track down the new address 10 miles in country roads no problem except for Friday traffic held us up and then they were not there. So the pleasure to be had on the day not meant to be are CS shop finds of great books one on hygge, one by Neil Gaiman and one by Matt Haig. We had a laugh at just how bad the day was!
3 Made it home and felt like becoming a hermit, picked up fish and chips and for the first time in forever I finished the lot, before DH.
4 Looking forward to an hours TV of walking the railways well it depends how anoraky it gets.
5 Someone has phoned with what sounds like a intriguing work discussion, I’ll find out more on Monday hopefully.

    Pleasures for today (Friday).

    1) Not a bad sleep.

    2) Sons away to school and college and I painted the walls in my bedroom. Its the moving the furniture beforehand and the cleaning up afterwards that takes the time!

    3) Hens well and 4 eggs.

    4) One step closer to ordering a new front door. SO EXPENSIVE as it is not the standard size (of course!) being 200mm shorter and a ridiculous 1200 wide... Cleared up the rain water flooding in beneath the existing door periodically...

    5) Went to the council offices for training prior to some election work.

    6) Made lasagne for tea which we ate with some chips from the van.

    7) Watched Gogglebox with bigger son.
  • Mrs SD and Mrs LW, your days sounded great. Here are my highlights:

Got more of the everlasting tapestry done at sewing group this morning. Two friends were there and we had a good catch up.

Back home, HM soup for lunch, and a small but filling salad.

Went for my first swim at the leisure club. Darn it, I thought towels were provided but alas not! So necessity was the mother of invention, and after my post swim shower I dried myself with my socks :o (clean on this morning!) then made windsocks of each sock using the hairdryer on hot. They dried really fast! My feet loved the hot socks!! :D

Did a little Lidl shop, then used a £2 off £10 voucher for specific items in Waitrose that I can't find elsewhere. No queues at the tills and no traffic hold ups either. :T

Had chicken livers for tea. Not everyone likes them, but I do and I simply pan fry them with onion and serve them on a bed of rocket and grate nutmeg over the top. Yummy. There's enough for tomorrow as well.

I have much to be grateful for, and the daily list is a great way of appreciating the good things in everyday life. :j:j
  • Purple Kitten, what a great pleasure being able to laugh when you have a bad day :D

WeeMidgie, ‘The Everlasting Tapestry’ sounds like a good title for a book :rotfl: Your dinner sounds absolutely delicious  - never had chicken livers but I might just give it a try :D

mhagster, National Gratitude Day, whatever next

Olliebeak, the Whitechapel Mission here has a wonderful website, which they update daily & which has various categories broken down into ‘we have an abundance, we are managing, we need help & we are desperate’. I try & provide items from the ‘we are desperate & we need help’ categories. Next time I visit, I will enquire as to the ‘shoeboxes’ as it sounds like a wonderful idea.

    More Friday pleasures

Being able to put recycling into our own Recycling Wheelie Bin :T - ours went ‘missing’ 4 weeks ago & we finally got our replacement Thursday - after my 4th phone call

Not having to go out in the rain :D

The rain finally stopping & the weather perking up enough to be able to line dry 2 loads of washing with just a 15 minute TD to finish off :D

DH ‘decluttering’ a mirror onto the hall wall :rotfl:

DH finding out that his niece had not been joking about him putting up shelves :rotfl: as she started looking for an odd job man :rotfl: So Sunday I am off to see her with DH - toolbox in hand :rotfl:

The last pleasure is not for the squeamish amongst us :rotfl: A slug had the temerity to ‘break into’ the house through the front door :rotfl: The pleasures are that I spotted it before it got onto the carpet, I didn’t step on it in the house, I was’brave’ enough :rotfl: to pick up using toilet paper & then squished it & binned it :D I know it is one of God’s creatures but it was spared last time when it only got as far as the front step :D

And on that ‘murd*rous’ note I will sign off :rotfl:

    Good Morning,

Mrs SD  .....I had a little look at the Whitechapel Mission website. (Looking for a shoebox appeal to do with the students this year, as a change from the Samaritans Purse). Really good work.

    Yesterday

    1. Morning meeting with nice people. Good job they know me......lap top decided to do 100's of updates, and then the fire alarm went off! ........you just had to laugh!

    2. Gentle lesson with students just finishing off what they started without me.

    3. Nice chat with colleagues at the end of the day.

    4. Left early to go to Ed's Diner with DH and DS2 for burgers. (DH had a voucher).

    5. Rebus: The Long Shadows at the REP with DH and DS2. (Nice that we can still persuade a teenager to come out with us). Excellent performance.

Craft workshop with crafty friend today. Have a lovely day :)

    Friday pleasures,

Another rough night with highs winds and driving rain so pleasure of good coffee to wake me up.

Went over to see PP feeling very cba and a little bleurgh. Yard owner was mending fence in the school so happily declined any other work, gave darling horse a good cuddle in field and came home :rotfl:

Leftover snorkers in warm baguette for lunch.

Laying on sofa, indulging my inner sloth and watching a silly old film. Just to add to general slothiness I even had a Wotsit sarnie at 4pm  Do find a general slump in energy and mood around the equinox, probably a self fulfilling prophecy by now.

Roused me stumps enough for an evening walk with small dog, she found the biggest stick and tried to bring it home with her.

Extra slice followed by Gogglebox, wine was drunk, candles were lit and happiness prevailed.
