Just climbed into my freshly made bed.
Wild day here, storm Ali making itself felt . Lots of trees down. Rubbish strewn .
Builderly people came late morning . Roof felt underlay stuff battened down as was ready to take off. Garden/ building site made safer than it was. Roof tiles delivered.
Started new library book. 3/4 way through.
Mini snooze whilst snuggled up with a dog.
Takeaway for tea....I want a working cooker.
Went to visit friend. Laughed. Cried. Laughed some more. Was blown round and then a big bright moon shone for the very breezy walk back.0 -
Pleasures for today (Wednesday).
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) A burst of activity from me this morning! Cooked chicken burritos mix for tea then a double portion of minced beef etc that will make spaghetti bolognese tomorrow then a lasagne on Friday. Also made some crumble mix so we can make Nigel Slater's crumble later in the week.
3) Hens OK.
4) Did the third and hopefully final coat of paint in the bathroom and cleaned up (again).
5) Bigger son went for his interview (part time job helping in a garage where they renovate classic cars) and he starts on Monday! He was chatting to the bloke for ages and he will also help bigger son with advice when he gets his new motorbike.
6) Bigger son went to the gym.
7) Watched DIY SOS - my favourite episode tonight.0 -
It's so nice to read everyone's posts: so many people have made big changes in their lives and it made me realise what my biggest pleasure of all is... I was a teacher for 18 years and left school in July. I was in a leadership position, earning a healthy salary but I was so stressed and overworked and unhappy. My DH gave me the courage to leave and, although I'm now in the scary position of not getting paid at the end of the month, I am LOVING my slow, quiet, frugal life. Best ever pleasure. Plus, having a wonderfully supportive DH who puts my happiness above all else, of course.
More specifically; pleasures for Wednesday:
1) Feeling cosy as the wind howls outside.
2) Unexpectedly coming across a handful of change.
3) Roasted carrot, cumin and chickpea soup for dinner.....
4) .... followed by chocolate fudge pudding. All homemade and all very frugal.
5) Fresh bed linen, ironed with lavender linen water.0 -
Time is worth so much more than any possessions Lifeintheslowlane good for you.
Wednesday pleasures,
Warm but windy, very windy, garden was like a huge tumble dryer so washing done.
A big branch came down from one of the beech trees, pleasure was no-one was driving along the lane as it happened!
HM soup and spelt rolls for lunch.
Despite the high winds princess pony behaved impeccably.
Caught up on GBBO although the urge to search the house for chocolate was huge, made do with a bowl of cherry yoghurt.0 -
:hello: Good Morning, Oldstylers - Hope we're all managing to avoid the worst of the storm.
My five blessings for yesterday are:
1. Another good night's sleep
2. Another day spent supervising DGS1. Offered him the opportunity to going for a 'MaccyD Brekkie' in an effort to 'get him out of the house' - naturally he jumped at the chance. It began to look as though we might not make MaccyD's in time for the 10.30am brekkie deadline, so talked him into opting for Wetherspoons, instead.
3. Asked DGS1 (age 17) to go and get his own hot drink from the machine - and he came back with coffee. I asked him if that was what he wanted and he said 'I'm not sure!' When asked if he'd followed the instructions on the machine, he answered 'Oh no - I just saw the 'bright coloured buttons' and pressed one! Teenage boys!!! His sense of humour about his 'little quirks' is really amusing - he's stopped getting 'angry' with himself - but needs to gain confidence to ask for assistance when he needs it.
4. We went supermarket shopping in Aldi and he was so considerate of my needs (walking with an elbow crutch and struggling to carry things). We had a funny conversation about him going 10 Pin Bowling when they didn't have any bowling shoes to fit him, so they allowed him to wear his own trainers. Apparently they only stock up to a size 11 and he's in a 12 - going into a 13 ; he was so pleased because he'd forgotten about changing shoes and remembered that he'd got huge holes in his socks!
5. Had a 'Tenants Liaison' meeting with Housing Association yesterday evening on the subject of 'Equality & Diversity for Employees and Tenants'. Interesting meeting PLUS £25.00 Love-to-Shop Voucher for our input :T.
6. Back home to 'Bacon on Toast'.
7. A$DA delivery arrived well on schedule - only one substitution which was 'in my favour'. One bag of Hash Browns had a 'small slit in the bag' which was refunded immediately PLUS I got to keep the Hash Browns for free :j.0 -
MHags. Raffles means we never have a ...
V Yes another dollops from BoP and all is good. Just out the golden sun toasted flakes of corn packet this morning into the card recycle thing and blow me I could have applied for a ticket to some trance event on an island! Missed it! Not!
4 BoPsie was up with the sparrows this day, had fed Raffles, and neighbours cat afore I ventured from my sleep! That is how BoP keeps cooooool! Got it!
3 Another packed lunch box and you should see it as weak. Extra slice of cheese today! No mini roll as cakes of Jaffa were on offer. Pennies watched!
2 Nite is camera club. More later.
Not having one today! Minds you BoPise was un wetted as BoP was non texting yesterday! Oh well!
Now as yous had your dollop, on with your day!0 -
7) Watched DIY SOS - my favourite episode tonight.
Wasn't it the Isle of Sheppey one? With the two guys and the disabled kids? Amazing family and the IofS is where i was born and raised!! Well done, your DS on the job.
Olliebeak - your DGS sounds just like my DS (19). You've a way to go yet :rotfl: DS came in on Tuesday (having left for uni last thursday) first thing he did was stick his head in the fridge and complain that there wasn't much that 'he' liked - err, that'll be cos you don't live here right now
So glad those who have them, are settling in their new homes - and LITSL, I don't think you'll regret going into the slow lane. I gave up work for a PhD, erm, not that slow then
Pleasures for yesterday
1. Staying in during horrid weather
2. watching the birds on me nutsfor some reason i have trouble feeding birds
3. a shorter webinar than advertised meaning that i could have a coffee with a friend after all
4. cooked butternut squash risotto for tea - i love cooking risotto, I find it very therapeutic. Had it with sauteed asparagus (sounds so much better than 'fried'.
5 Watched the John Simm Hong Kong thing - strangers? Watched episode 1 so hopefully will fit epi 2 in sometime soon.
Have a great day all - it's pi ... er persisting it down here :rotfl:I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
1) Blustery days where the clouds race across the sky and the birds get blown along not always in the direction they intended to go!
2) Calling in at the Farm Market on the way home this afternoon to get pasties for supper and finding some of the freshest Kale on sale that I've seen for ages.
3) Both book cases are now built and finished and ALL my lovely books are out for me to have whenever I want them.
4) More reduction bargains from the Co Op when I walked up this afternoon, braising steak, sausages and a whole cooked chicken which are now in the freezer to be used over the next couple of weeks.
5) Pushkin cat was brilliant this morning letting himself be caught and put into his travelling box without any fuss, let the vet give him his jab still laying down in his box and not a squeak from him at any point. Back home and letting him out 10 minutes before our actual appointment time, Good Boy Pushycat!0 -
Five good things today:
I caught up with two more bits of admin that had been hanging fire.
A Vistaprint photo book arrived, was admired then I repackaged it and took it to the Post Office. It's now on its way to the other side of the world, to mark a special person's significant birthday.
A friend called in unexpectedly. One of the joys of moving to this neighbourhood is that I have friends nearby and this sort of thing is possible.
I had an unexpected windfall and decided to use it to improve my health. This afternoon I joined a small leisure club 15 minutes walk away. It has a pool and I chose the off peak deal. I was a member there many years ago but opted out to save up for funding early retirement, which I knew was likely thanks to a long term condition. The walking and the swimming will be very good for me.
My veg box arrived and I made a stir-fry with some of the contents. The business is local, and the grower puts in a weekly newsletter describing what's been growing well and what's involved in keeping everything going. It's always interesting.0 -
1 I checked both of our credit scores before applying for a new account, really pleased to have been successful.
2 Had leftover hm soup think I’ll try something else when I feel the urge again, as it was ok but not very tasty.
3 Hoovered all downstairs and then mopped all, much to animals’ fun they love chasing it and leaving little pawprints in the process, ah well.
4 We just had a delicious Chinese takeaway as a lovely treat, I had to hold myself back from popping in for RTCs as I literally went past it to get to the Chinese, but I behaved as we have plenty in the freezer.:o
5 Reloaded the van with clean towels and bedding.0
