For the weekend,

Lammas and the straw bales are already in the fields behind the cottage awaiting collection.

Operation hedge cut continues, I’m the chief sweeper upper!

There is no grass to speak of in the horse paddocks thanks to the drought and by the time I get over my lass has eaten all the hay that’s been put out so when she sees me on the yard she starts calling. So I do her stable and then wheel the barrow out the side door so as not to be seen, makes my fellow owners laugh.

Treat of a payday takeaway.

Watering, watering, seem to spend half my life carrying full watering cans but picking my own food is worth the effort. Anyone who recommends strength training as we age should look at the bonuses of being a horse owner/ gardener!

Morning all.

August already, hopefully the countdown to autumn starts here although we are hot, hot, hot again today and tomorrow. The forecast rain is now due between 1-2am tomorrow, otherwise sunshine all the way!

Some pleasures:

1. Brass bands and picnics and catching up with friends, lovely way to spend a summer afternoon. Got a bit tearful in parts, brass bands always have that effect but it was also my mum's 4th anniversary so feeling a bit tender anyway. We live in the middle of brass band country and they've always been a favourite with us all, mum and dad would have been in their element.
2. To add to the nostalgie we watched Brassed Off - yet again - last night, pretty dated now but fab music - Grimethorpe Colliery Band, one of our favourites.
3. People can be just lovely. Last time we went, a fortnight ago, I was randomly chatting with someone I didnt know. She found me yesterday to show me a video she had taken on her phone to explain further what we had been talking about. Awww, so kind. She's sent me the video and, chatting further, we realised we only live about 3 miles from each other (amazing as the house and gardens we go to are a good 45 mins away) so we have exchanged numbers and will meet for a coffee to chat further.
4. Out today with little fella to a NT property we have been to with him many times but this summer they have turned part of the garden into a beach (!!!). Not sure how that is going to work but we have a picnic, sun cream and towels to hand so will soon find out!
5. Had a burst of energy yesterday and used up a sheet of puff pastry and a big blob (culinary term) of sausagemeat that have been lurking in the freezer together with the tail end of a jar of apricot chutney to make a sausagemeat plait which turned out surprisingly ok. Will have that with various salads for tea when we get back so no cooking today.

Right, will gather up what we need and peel the lad away from his computer games and head off.

Pleasures for today (Monday)

1)Not a bad sleep.

2) Finished cleaning and reassembled the oven.

3) Went to Sainsbury's cafe with smaller son and had 2 games of chess.

4) The tiler came to give me a quotation.

5) Burgers for tea.

Smaller son will be 23 tomorrow!

Hello. Bedtime…and felt it got dark early. Had to put the lamp on when I was chatting to friend.

Anyway for Sunday. Headed off to CP yesterday morning at 6.30am…doggy’s first walk in over a week. He managed well.
Swim in the morning with plenty of other chatter boxes and then a swim on my own in the afternoon. Only 8 weeks left of swim time.

Started and then finished a book.

Visitors of the lovely baby kind!

Reasonable sleep until wide awake at 3am. Raindrops on roof.

This morning it was raining so pool wasn’t open at normal time. And by the time I decided to head off it opened! Had a nice walk with doggy on the way out.

Had a delivery coming so was home in time for that. A lovely gift for The Baby from friends in Australia. Dropped it off and 2 hours later…

Supermarket on way home and met two friends separately so nice chats with them.

Home…hello doggy. Made a chilli for tea.

Looks like it’s me again 😆

Decent sleep.

Was just up and dressed and hair dried when the door went! A child with her child.

Their company for the day…lots of snuggles and baby smiles.

They left at 4.30pm and the hoover came out…but not until I’d brushed the hairiest dog! Could have knitted a litter of puppies with how much he’s casting at the moment!

Leftover chilli and rice for tea .

And then popped round to see a friend.

Pleasures for today (Tuesday)

1)Not a bad sleep.

2) Tidied up a bit.

3) Woke smaller son up for his birthday. I went on Ebay because he wanted a German beer stein and he's very pleased.

4) My family plus my sister's family called round in the afternoon. My brother removed the part of the kitchen door frame that needs to go.

5) Later, bigger son called round.

6) Had a Chinese for tea.

We’ve just come back from a lovely and first weekend away for us this year, it feels like it was needed. It was a lovely steam fair, and we were made to feel welcome, its one we’ve been to for the past 8 years now.

We were able to keep the caravan cool, with various shades keeping the sun off the van directly, but truly thankful to have packed ice and ice poles and frozen bottles for the animals just in case.

There were evening ferret walks, and Rhubarb was adored by all who met him.

We truffled out 2 amazing food places on site and did treat ourselves.

I used food leftovers from the van to create a chicken stew/soup thing for lunch; it was all in one pot and tasted okay.

Remembered to meal plan ahead although only until tomorrow.

The washing machine has been flat out, and we’ve got clean bedding to look forward to.

Sitting in the garden, with a tea, when a beautiful turquoise dragonfly treated us to it's presence.

For past couple of days

DH came home from his travels.

Went out to local pub for a meal to celebrate his birthday. His desert arrived with a candle in. We know staff well as it’s where we go for quiz.

Work has gone ok I suppose.

Seeing rabbits playing in a field on way to work. It’s possible to do so now as wheat has been cut.

Been sent lovely photos and videos of granddaughter.

Decent sleep.

DD2 and The Baby picked up me and Dog Boy , went via garden centre and picked up cheese scones. Over to CP. I walked dog. He wondered where they were.

Then it absolutely lashed. We were in caravan for a couple of hours and then home.

Then dropped off dog and back out to go to hospital. Hard to get a space …this woman cut us off and then we found one and were walking across with the pram and she was still driving looking for a space! But taken promptly and nice friendly staff.

Home. Bath time and bedtime stories…I’ve a couple of bookshelves filled with books from when mine were wee. Plus we have lovely Australian kids books too.

Chat with friend.

And happy to come to bed. ‘Tis wild and windy out there.

A random job appeared on one of my alerts, that was also local but finishing today, so taking it as a sign, I applied for it as it would suit me down to the ground, it’s for Care Home Governance.

Went about pottering, picked some tomatoes and checked on the courgettes and lettuce.

A healthy dinner.

Numerous wash loads in and out.

Just caught Steel Magnolias, so many one liners.
