Good morning laptop friends.
Very little happening here so just touching base really.
Some pleasures:
- Hopefully we are through the latest heatwave, it's certainly cooler here today thank goodness. Yesterday and Wednesday were bordering on very unpleasant - dread to think what it's been like further south and the news of house fires has been devastating. In spite of the heat though we seem to be heading towards autumn and the nights are noticeably drawing in.
- A Level Results - always an anxious time hoping the youngsters aren't disappointed. Excellent results for middle grandson who I think was a tad more relieved than pleased but he's a bright lad and certainly pulled it out of the bag. Still deciding but it seems likely he will defer Uni and carry on with his year out. I think this is an excellent idea for him but am being a wise granny and keeping my opinions to myself, his future is for him to work out.
- The laziness re anything to do with the house is continuing thoughI have been a bit more industrious of late with some clothes alterations and baking done yesterday - oh, and a couple of things ironed. Otherwise a lick and a promise and minimal cooking. I like a clean, tidy and well ordered house, one day it may happen here - or not.
- The 'ladies at the library' sent me a pile of books they thought I'd like - read two in the last few days and not at all what I would have chosen but excellent reads both of them. Very refreshing change. Will send along a thank you card and box of homemade biscuits when they are returned.
- Packing again today for our next trip - Happycas, I have it down to a fine art now! We are off to Hertfordshire first thing in the morning for a few days, not an area we know terribly well so looking forward to exploring. We are visiting Waddesdon, Hughenden and the Ascott Estate so getting full use out of our NT cards! Just us two this time so very laid back and relaxed and we will go at our own pace. Although we are retired so technically together all the time it just doesn't work out that way in real life so lovely to have a bit of 1:1 time.
Right, nothing to say but have rabbited on as usual! Coffee is ready and a coolish garden beckons.
Stay safe and stay cool, we are going through an unsettling time. Have a good weekend all.

I hope everyone is safe. With the heat and the fires, it has been a difficult summer. Add in the health problems people have been having, it has been tough. Take care. Sending hugs to those who need them.

Another one touching base, what with the fifth heatwave of the summer and the general lassitude that hot weather brings there’s not much going on!
We did have a nice evening meal out with a friend, him and Capt S started as accounting technicians at the same water company when they were both just 16 years old. Lots to catch up and the food was yum.
The garden is hanging on by the skin of its teeth, the only things thriving are the tomatoes and Mediterranean herbs! I’m hand watering as much as possible.
The animals are coping, my big girl spent two days in last week due to extreme heat, it’s reasonably cool in the barn whereas the fields have zero shade. I sponged her down and made her a big apple & carrot ice cube which she loved.
C dog is only walked in the morning and sticks to the shady parts of the garden when she needs to do any business!
Have been listening and enjoying the new series of Standing up for the Classics on Sounds when driving over to the yard.
Lots of book reading.
Slightly cooler day yesterday and Capt S managed a bit more hedge cutting while I caught up on chores.
United first league game of the new season and the we won.
Watched the second DWP film and it was silly but ok.

Good evening! Just came to bed as I just got soaked and thought nah…jammies and bedtime!
So from Saturday.
Up early wrote a list of chores…honestly I work better if I write a list…not in a memory kind of way in a purposeful ticking off a list kind of way!
Then went round to DD2 and we went out to a work place open day. Which was nice…nice to catch up with colleagues that I don’t always see out of work situations. Baby slept! Hurrah!
Then back here as I was waiting on a parcel. Baby cuddles. DD2 got a nap.
Think I left before them! Headed down to the CP. lovely walk in the evening sunshine…and a what time are you closing the pool text sent…in about half an hour! I’ll be quick …I was quick and lovely to swim with the sun at the opposite direction it would be in the morning! So that was a lovely way to end a day!
Reasonable sleep till I was woken by a most horrible dream at 4am. Quick doggy ( let out the front door) then we jumped in car an hour later…had a rainy walk at bottom drive then went to the next village to get a few bits and pieces at the wee shop.
Back in and it was still raining so started a book and read and read. Did my hoovering, washed the decking when the rain stopped. Went for a midday swim once the pool opened. Just me.
Back to reading. DD2 etc popped in for half an hour. Read some more. Quick doggy walk. Chat to friend. Finished book and then bedtime.
And this morning we left before 6.30am all packed up and ready to go. A misty morning walk along the drive and I thought the main road would be misty but it wasn’t, it was a lovely clear drive home …though road was busy as it was the opposite direction I would normally be going at that time! Usually I’m just heading out for our walk!
Showered as soon as I got in, washing on, out and back in at lunchtime…not quite dry but I’m ever so glad I got it in as it’s lashed!
Did about an hour of gardening this morning and I really enjoyed it. Weeding , pruning, clearing, lots of things have went from fabulous to blowsy and leggy! So had a good chop at a few things…loads more to be done!
Then time to head to vets…for a doggy pedicure. Got his nails clipped…not quite as easy as normal as he’s not so good at weight bearing with his sore leg…so we did it lying down…as was the nurse! But she was ever so nice with him.
Quick nip to supermarket and had a big bag of plastic bags to recycle…met a good friend and her mum so had such a lovely chat with them. Got some lovely RTC flowers.
Back home, doggy lunch another wee 20 minutes in the garden and then walked round to DD2 and thought I heard my name being called. It was another lovely friend so walked with her to hers ( on way) and had a quick catch up.
Bit of a decorating disaster…I was supposed to be papering and had cut the paper too short. Absolutely mortified! All is not lost and I’ve brought the cut paper to do my office wardrobe! Anyway The Chap went and bought paint and DD2 has given the wall its first coat.
Home to my doggy. Chatted to sister. Quick tea of cheese and crackers. Then back round to DD2 ( but she’d finished the first coat) and ended up giving The Baby her bath and read her stories. They ate their dinner and I had cuddles.
And then home absolutely lashing with rain!!

Pleasures for today (Monday)
1)Not the best sleep so good to get up.
2) Went to my doctors to use the scales. I'll find somewhere else (Boots?) as there was a queue for the little booth that contains the scales and blood pressure thing. 12lbs lost.
3) Went to the tip.
4) Got a new(er) car! Traded the old one in also. So nice to drive a car where everything works.
5) Traybake for tea.
6) On a bat survey now with my brother.

Up early.
Tidied up. Hung out a washing. Have started in the garage…a perpetual job 😆 it had been filled with stuff from DD house move so want to get it back in some order before I need logs delivered in a month or so. First aid kit from 2005…kept the bandages 😆 ditched the wipes!
Walked to DD2. Met 2 separate people I know and had a chat.
Ended up going on a mini road trip 😆picked up doggy on the way, did what was needed then stopped at CP…ooh I could go for a swim whilst you feed baby! So I did. Then walked doggy before we left.
Back home here. She went for a nap and the baby didn’t!
They left. Had a bit of work to do ( 5 minutes worth) so did that and was just closing laptop and friend phoned.

I did have detailed pleasures but I can’t remember them at the moment, accidental deletion, so a briefer version
Deep cleaned the windows inside and out, all around after the summer sun seemed to be highlighting all of the dirt.
Picked up a local Olio.
Treated ourselves to a takeaway.
There’s a full complement of animals.
For reasons I can’t quite understand, a mini has come up for sale locally and I can’t help but be pondering it, I test drove an original style mini back when for my first car, but I was talked out it back then..
For today
I was cooking from scratch when I popped into the fridge I think for tomato puree but caught the top shelf as I moved sending 2 glass bottles of maple syrup smashed across the floor. I was grateful my cooking was under lids and safe, but the sticky floor clear up took 2 full attempts.
Just booked in for another steam fair hopefully, just waiting for the payment link.
Reading in the garden, but also distracted by a bright dragonfly.

Wednesday pleasures
Up early.
Did 15 minutes in the garage. Sorted through photos.
Walked round to DD2 and then we picked up a dog and then cheese scones at garden centre before heading to CP.
Gas safety check done today so had to wait in for the chap but went for a swim afterwards.
Quick doggy walk. He was struggling so we didn’t go far. Back to mine and I had The Baby here for an hour then we walked the long way to hers as I had to collect a vinted parcel.
Bathtime and bedtime for her and then walked home…and in just before it started raining…the sly was getting darker and darker as I was walking.
FaceTime chat with friend .
