mhagster - eep an office that is orating - not good. Finally getting use of the garden cushions. Hunt the pharmacist & win! travel cot & cot ed & bedding?! Wow! Please look after yourself a bit harder? We can all have misadventures, and recover but much rather you did not adorn the Sick List!
ampersand - the ABC is a cracker - I respect and admire her more and more "not a problem to be solved" absolutely. (I saw an estimate that NASA has 20% identified ND & thought 'that few?') You help changing a tyre - of course. Delighted main gate lock has emerged from hiding. Why not boot? Dependent immobility?
Frith - cleaned the car out? And oh radio & bridges! Still tooth troubles for elder son? Esh. I remember the cake he took in! Dear heavens, Council's front door remodelling - it looks bizarre and strange & somehow beautiful whilst remaining wrong. Just one stone? So many lines...
LaineyT - ease back through convalescence & hurrah the gallant Captain with the watering cans! Time in the garden is wonderful for stress. Sponged with Citronella horse spray - hoping that helped! "easy routine of high summer" sounds magical. Tickled by Shetland catching up with friends! Your fennel is self seeding in the heat?!
Purple Kitten - I hadn't realised a ferret diet was so specific (but researching horns educated me!) Oh absolutely hand over ten of the tennis balls. A happy ferret now means fewer regrets later. Oh yes, a lovely moth is absolutely a joy to watch. Wherever chives go, expect them to increase as they chuck seed locally & gradually expand. "lazy Sunday" sounds blissful!
DundeeDoll - that's not a conference that's an orderly mob. Hurrah mopping up the sandwiches!
Highdays - enjoy the brass band! And well done on good school reports (those used to be rewarded with kebabs, as the kebab house were vehement about the importance of education as well as extra sauces) Love the "What doesn't get done in the next half hour will have to wait"!
Happycas - its appointment season, especially as school breaks up... Love the pheasant mum visiting!

OS pleasures recently
The laundry is washed, line dried, laid out on my bed for me to fold & smooth & I present Youngest with a roll of clean laundry. He flings it over his shoulder onto his bed. Why? “I’m practising my bouquet toss for when I get married.” I really must ask him ‘at whom?’

Ye gods my hindbrain generates some unexpected insults - “a spavined moron” is today’s unexpected verbal tic.

Seen off to last scouts before summer packing water pistols as Youngest cheers me along “remember the rules of war are largely guidelines!” Gosh BP could have handed him to the commandos without a blink.

Wished several scouts, including our most noisy, a happy summer - we managed to omit a more formal farewell but then I rather prefer that. I’m swapping nights so I can try to get a seat as third cornet in the senior band

I say, as scout leader, soaked & heading for shower clutching belt & beads - Everything else in the wash (trainers on drying rack)! Self now scrubbed soaped sluiced & all nails trimmed.

Having gardened, I now realise trimmed nails still need tools to clean out…

Work trousers (as ever) too long in the leg & I was startled to find black safety pins absolutely regarded as normal for tacking, modesty etc. It’s not indolence, it’s girl power seemingly.

Mah Jongg cards arrived - complete set (phew) no numbers so characters need to be learned (1, 2 & 3 are easy, ‘fat man’ & ‘sneeze’ need proper translation!)

I’ve a brilliant trainee with two children one a junior doctor & one only just 17 who flew solo a couple of months back & will have his private pilot’s licence before he can drive a car. Or legally buy alcohol. I'm thinking train him in pattern recognition of popular brands of HRT sold over the counter & she need not worry about the price of fuel…. His mother gurgling with laughter as she’d not thought of him as her potential cosmetics & cashmere wholesaler side hustle!

Got an email about boiler protection & ran a price comparison - then called & haggled - still over the lowest figure but the usual team!

The lilies are starting to flower, beautiful shapes.

I can’t make the high note on “here we come a wassailing” but I’ve a dicky 2nd valve as an excuse & several months to learn. I can also butcher ‘abide with me’ (without sheet music) which I reckon is sort of progress. And when the library reopens (it’s bring re-floored) I’ll see what it has by way of Gershwin in sheet music form. (My jazz sheet music box file is somewhere disgustingly Safe…) [Now firmly disassembled, oiled & reassembled - and they Did need a spanner.]

Our amazing lead cornet has many talents, has stripped & decorated her own kitchen, also plays trumpet, manages her teen son’s mental health (her dad had schizophrenia & she has grounds for worrying son has too) but as we chat, that I know a medicated schizophrenia who is actually good company & lower risk than other mates (who drink) reassured her a bit.

Pondering “next car” & amused by ‘temu Range Rover’ (the Jaecoo vehicles).

Watching live jazz trio set up (live music still includes cables) to find I’m sat under an air con vent - bliss!

Met a novice saxophonist who plays in Manchester, taken up as a retirement hobby & her still-working husband queried was this an “appropriate” hobby? She seemed cheered by my view that music is Always appropriate.

How odd is it to sit & listen to live music & quietly, fascinated, scan people’s hands? Some calm, some twitchy, some arthritic, some long lines of bone between elegant joints (built to play Liszt!), some meditative - I nearly started sneaking phone snaps.

There’s something about driving after the sun has set that is meditative & cooler.

Standing on a barstool, trousers on inside out, so Youngest can see where the legs need to be hemmed & pin them. I am hugely blessed. Even if I have to explain again that trouser designers presume heights & thus I have spent years hemming those assumptions. Then querying his grasp on anatomy as to the body leg ratio!

The Valkyrie has no idea on “loose lips sink ships” etc but kept the bloke chaperoning the drive happy while I did the data shuffle. I like the work (also the backroom boffin rep!), while she’s after examples for her next job application. I’m thinking not only did she have to come to me for kit, I learned Far Too Much about the data's origin. Still, I’ll get to sanitise the hardware next week, ready for the next job.

The relative coolth is still a joy & Youngest is getting better at line drying!

My lump of ginger has sprouted! Whee! (Most ginger is treated to prevent this, delighted to find a bit that escaped.)

Health strength love & courage to all as have need, parasols, dentists & working hearing likewise.

@mhagster - yes, they spoke to my neighbours. I played the Ring doorbell footage back and saw 2 sad men trying to ring the doorbell (I was out) and looking and pointing!

2. Reasonable day at work. Had enough patients not turn up to make the morning supervising a student useful and not rushed.
   
3. Took lunch in - a salad healthier, tastier and cheaper than buying lunch.
   
4. Sat in the garden listening to the birds.
   
5. An early night- my back is definitely not liking having worked Saturday.

For yesterday,

Dropped down to the garage in the village first thing to get wing mirror replaced after it was knocked in car park and smashed, let’s hope the person who just drove off receives the same at some point! Lovely garage did it in 5 minutes.

On to emporium, nothing in the way of bargains but had a couple of vouchers which lessened the pain.

Long chat with bf, we have a day out planned for Friday but more on that later.

Big girl had the farrier, her feet were very hard with so much dry weather and she had chipped her left hind but all sorted.

Easy tea of fish with veggies, weird to have no footie or cricket to watch but we made do with quiz night.

Pleasures for today (Tuesday)

1)Not a bad sleep.

2) Went to Sainsbury's. I had finally got into the modern age so paid for a pot of tea - using my phone!

3) Returned some clothes and got £16 back on a gift card and talked to my former colleague.

4) Had a proper look round the shop.

5) Made a salad for lunch with hummus and l.o chicken.

6) My magazine came through the post.

7) Got a free NT day pass. Thank you, @ampersand for pointing it out.

8) Another man came to quote for a new double glazed door panel. I can't find a third company locally.

9) Watched the end of Ann Droid and caught up with casualty.

10) Looking forward to Great British Sewing Bee.

Another grey, cooler day, much appreciated and it seems as though that’s been the case since who got a new fan 😊

We have a juvenile blackbird that keeps popping out from under the hedge, luckily C dog is more interested in the chance of a dropped apple.

Morning visit to my big girl, bit of work in her field with pulling a couple of tiny ragwort plants and a poo pick of course. There is hardly any grass left as we’ve had no rain for weeks so popped haylage in her cube container.

Capt S had to have some dental work done under anaesthetic so dropped him off then home for an hour or so in the garden.

Nice soft tea of baked sweet potato with cheesy beans, the patient also managed a big bowl of ice cream 🍨

Hello…just home and opened patio doors and it’s absolutely stinky outside ( fields)

Anyway for Tuesday first of all.
Up early. And offered the Grandmotherly services and went and picked up TheBaby , we walked to Tesco, met neighbours on walk back and had a chat with them. Then Baby decided she would just stay awake all the time until her mummy came and got her at lunchtime.

I then had to get ready for work . A lovely service. Late afternoon.

Then home, brought in all the washing…dumped it on a sofa and grabbed a dog and my pre packed bags and off we went to CP.

Was dozing on sofa when I was reading so just went to bed early. And then the smoke alarm was beeping in an I need a new battery kind of way…but it’s one of the dogs things that freak him out. So he was freaked and I took him out at midnight and he would not settle and then we were back out at 1.15am…it was pitch black ( middle of countryside and I back onto the woods). Not my favourite thing to be doing and then I’d trailed in a whole load of cut grass.

So I didn’t wake at my usual sunrise time.

We went our teeny tiny walk…met a swim buddy on the way and had a chat.

Then over to the garden centre for freshly baked cheese scones. Finsihed my book.

Had my swim. Swim buddy dropped off a smoke detector battery for me which was kind.

DD2 and The Baby came for a visit. They left about the back of 1pm and I left about 2pm.

Wrote a list of chores. Ticked them all off…bathrooms and hoovering and remaking bed. Brushed a dog in return he had an ice lolly. He’s been a bit limpy today so think tomorrow will be a garden only one for him.

Walked round to DD2 with a winter jacket in my arms. Too big for me now. Entertained The Baby and she sorted through outgrown already clothes. Bathtime and then I’ve just came home.

Shall go and do a little ironing and then look forward to nice clean sheets. And hopefully a coolish bedroom.

And there we go another day zoomed by!

Pleasures for today (Wednesday)

1)Not a bad sleep.

2) Scrambled eggs and smoked salmon for lunch.

3) My dad fell over in his vegetable garden, but seems OK.

4) Took smaller son to Sainsbury's cafe where we had 2 games of chess.

5) Spent over an hour pruning and raking up in the garden.

6) Fried brocoli and bacon for tea.
