5 OS pleasures in your day today - part 3

Hello. Was messaging my friend in Australia today and she was saying their days are starting to eke
out slightly and I said we are still light at 10pm but it’s 10.20pm and not quite dark.

Anyway up nice and early and off we went at just after 6am to the CP. lovely drive down. And nice little walk. We don’t go far. We can’t got far. But just us and the birds and a cool breeze over the wheat fields and through the trees. Perfect before another day of HOT!

Did my caravan housework! Then went over for my swim. Chatter. Chatter.

And then straight home with my wet cossie on and quick shower when I got home and then SIL picked me up and we went to collect some free to them garden furniture. We squeezed the sofa in the car and then I walked round to theirs. Phoned sister on the way to multitask!

Baby cuddles and a bit of hoovering and moving furniture through to the garden.

And walk home and chatted to sister again!

Sat in the garden to read. First time this summer I’ve had the cushions out the garage. I’ve just not had a minute! So sat and read and dozed off for about 15 minutes and woke up melting.

So back inside! Had some life admin to deal with that’s been on a to do list all week! So it’s done!

Walked round to DD2 and sat for a bit and brought The Baby back here for a wee while. She is not a sleeper. But she is cute!

They picked her up when he finished work and then I had my tea…very late for me to eat but it was use by today!

Our day changed to home when we checked the traffic, a pleasure to be able.

Pfft applied for roles a pleasure when/if successful…

Finished reading a book, with a very twisty ending.

The most beautiful moth on the vet bedding which meant I just had to relax for a while and watch it rather than bring in the washing, the photos don’t do it justice

For yesterday,

Another cool, grey start which is much appreciated when it gets so hot later in the day, not allowed a hose pipe now so an early water using cans.

Coffee and a catch up with a friend, dropped a couple of books off at the emporium swap.

A free treat from said shop, some of those posh tonic waters, chose Rhubarb & Raspberry.

My big girl seemed stressed when I walked out to get her in and, despite having her fly mask on, she was being pestered with lots of flies around her face. Got her in, washed her face and sponged some of her Citronella horsey spray on, bless her.

Mr J Root, once again gets the England cricket team out of a tricky spot, whatever will they do when he decides to retire!

Morning all.

Another lovely cool start to the day here before the sun burns through, which it is now threatening to do.

Some pleasures:

1, The heat is much more bearable here than it was down south, just a few degrees make such a difference to our comfort and evergy levels. Where most sensible people are relaxing and doing as little as possible I seem to become energised in (not too) warm weather so once again attempting to get my house in some sort of order.

2. Little chap finishes school today, off to 'big school' in September. Tomorrow to fresh woods and pastures new and all that. Marvelling st his report, he certainly doesn't take after his grandma - 'he is an exceptionally talented mathematician….he is like a human calculator….his fluency with number is exceptional. Nope, definitely not from me!! His class teacher's comment that he 'has been an outstanding member of the class and it has been an absolute pleasure to teach him this year' did make me somewhat wet-eyed though.

3. A costly trip to the dentist, the pleasure being I can finally get my permanent crown and implant finished. The difference the work has made is remarkable, so unfortunately has been the cost.

4. Due to holidays and weekends away and too intense heat, we have missed a few of our Sunday afternoon concerts in the grounds of a nearby EH property. One of our favourite brass bands this Sunday and the forecast looks spot on so we will pack a picnic and take ourselves off for a low-cost (see 3 above!) summer treat.

5. A day of pootling and pottering today, sorting and organising and just enjoying feeling a lot better and being at home. Will frinish a lovely book this afternoon, Whistler by Ann Patchett - love her cool, measured style of writing, fortunately have a nice little pile of library new releases to move on to.

At several stages in my life I have thought how I'd just love to stop the clock 'right now' and this is one of them. Very happy and content is my life, it's not without its problems and upsets, it's 'real life' after all but I am very grateful and thankful and I'd like to stay here and now for the forseeable…..hmmm, that's tempting fate for sure!

Off to crack on before the heat kicks in. Have a good day whatever you are up to.

Absolutely roasting upstairs despite windows being open and it being a wee bit cooler outside now! Oooft!

Anyway up early. And out early. Arrived at CP at 6.30am and had our teeny weeny walk whilst it was a wee bit cooler.

in pool for 9am. Nice chatters this morning. Hot shower. And then sat and read for an hour. Then I could feel the heat building up and decided it was time to head home.

Washing on and washing out with swim stuff and then walked round to DD2.

We walked to supermarket and pharmacy. Met my old work colleague so chat with her. Then back to DD2 by which time there should be a pharmacist available ( he was on his late lunch when I’d went in) and an oh you’ll need to wait 20 minutes to see him…really I’ve already waited 40 minutes and came back! But he was only about 10 minutes and as always grateful to our Scottish NHS and free prescriptions!

Back to mine. Hello doggy the noisy baby is here again! Her mama went for a snooze and her grandmama watched her!

They left and I sat and finished my book and then went out and watered the plants. And realised it was blooming 9pm already!

And I’ve just printed my service for Tuesday. Get ahead of myself ever so slightly.

Good morning. Another grey start to the day but it's warmed up every day so far so fingers crossed.

Recently.

It seems to be all appointments here. Not only mine ( hair, yoga, nails, hearing aids,), DH ( chiropractor, chiropodist, eye test) but also DH taking friend to eye clinic and me taking friend to Parkinson's clinic!. Honestly, there are very few days with nothing booked in.

But

A trip with DS to nearby town to see littlest DGD in her dancing show. Well, I say her show but actually her group did two stints of two minutes each in a two hour show. But we were there, and it was well worth it to see her beaming smile when we said how much we'd enjoyed it. In truth, it was all very varied and well presented so we enjoyed the other bits too.

Met some friends for lunch and natter. Hadn't seen them to a couple of months so lots of news to catch up on.

Watched the second half of the semi final. Only usually watch football if DGS is playing. Did feel quite sad as they'd done so well to get that far. But then I remember feeling sorry for Germany in 1966. Probably the only person in England to feel that way!

We had a pheasant mum and 4 little fat chicks visit our garden for a drink. The chicks were gorgeous little balls of feathers. A great start to the day.

Tomorrow I go to Castle Howard with DD. It's my mother's day present to see an outdoor cinema screening of Andrea Bocelli. I'm putting a picnic together ( not easy - egg and gluten free!) and keeping a close eye on the weather. What to wear??

Morning all 😊

Recent pleasures:

Meeting up with friends at old home area whilst having frequent dental appointments ( not a pleasure, new denture which hurt because it didn’t fit, cost lots of £, 140 mile round trip each time and now more scans and trips ☹️🤷‍♀️).

The weather really was too hot but it’s usually 5 degrees cooler here near the coast. Compensated with a couple of swims in the sea and a cooler hot tub.

My sister is a frequent visitor as she loves it down here and we regularly meet for a cheese scone at the garden centre. She has also stayed the night at ours, as has OHs sister.

We have had shutters fitted on the front two bay windows ( bedrooms) and they look great 😊. Hopefully the last expensive job. We can now see our view but have some privacy.

Much cooler here this morning, but maybe a sea swim later and it’s quiz night so will meet up with some friends later.

@PaulieHerts Those shutters look fab! I've always wanted shutters on my windows but they are all sashes and I don't think it would work as well.

Shutters should work on sash windows as they open like doors to access the windows, not sure how they would look aesthetically 😊

What a lovely home PaulieH, no wonder you are so happy there.

For yesterday,

Was thinking that we have now settled into the easy routine of high summer.

Curtains and windows shut on the south facing side of the cottage during the heat of the day.

Minimum housework just to keep everything ticking over.

Gardening done either early morning or late evening although it can still feel hot at 9pm! The grass is brown & crunchy under my feet but hasn’t been cut in weeks.

Minimal cooking as well, who wants the oven on in 30 degrees plus.

The freezer is filling up with courgettes!

The dirty linen basket is nearly always empty and tees & shorts are on quick rotation.

Even the animals have slowed right down, C dog has an early morning walk around the field then just garden visits suffice. My big girl is ready to come in at 12 then spends the rest of the day dozing in her stable.

I’m working my way through a summer TBR list and am currently alternating between The Pop Larkin Chronicles and Forgotten Witches.
