Good morning, I have had a very busy week preparing for a weekend of teaching in United Emirates, which is where I am now (and why it seems i am posting very early - it's 8:40am here and the first workshop is just about to start. This is the only session of the 3 days I'm not leading or assisting, just observing - it's on ethics and I'm looking forward to it. So 5 things for Wed / Thur
1) The airport bus (love the airport bus, an hour earlier than I needed just in case any delays, I took a flask) My colleague arrived at 6 as planned (She lives in Edinburgh) and this is the first time I have travelled overseas with her (indeed her first overseas trip with us) so very much looking forward to working with her
2) Individual screens on the plane (remember when we all had to watch the same film?) - I watched two excellent films - Conclave and Dead of Winter. These are also my first 2 films in my A-Z challenges for 26 for 26 (another thread)
3) Being horizontal - we arrived at the hotel 9ish, had breakfast and went to bed - bliss!
4) The internet - they'd wanted me to do my keynote in person at 1pm - I said I'd need some sleep first so they kindly moved it to 4pm online so we slept, showered, had late lunch at 3pm then I did the keynote from my hotel room
5) Conviviality - our hosts met us at 6, we had an hour's meeting then my colleague and I had a convivial evening exploring the hotel (it has a swimming pool and a sauna). 90 minutes tidying up today's teaching, bed by 10, Archers (of course!) then The Goblin King - fell asleep 10 minutes in and slept till 7am. Horizontal. Bliss!20*25 for 2025: 489 / 5007 -
For yesterday,
Food shopping and a visit to equine feed store for Hi-fibre haylage.
Foul day weather wise so horses were in, visit to my girl and chores done. We did some stretching etc in the stable.
Still feeling rough so after lunch snuggled down for a nap, 1.5 hours later woke up!
Chicken traybake for tea, love a one pot meal.
Watched another episode of Lynley, think of you ignore the fact that they are meant to be based on the original characters it’s a better watch.6 -
for today
1) a very good sleep (10:30 - 7 UAE time)
2) a buffet breakfast at a hotel - what's not to love
3) having the same driver as before - I feel most at home!
4) getting back to the hotel in time for a swim
5) remembering to get a jug of fresh milk for my fridge - now drinking tea with milk
right, off to dinner (it's 6pm). see ya tomorra20*25 for 2025: 489 / 5005 -
Hello. Just reclining on my bed whilst my phone is charging.
Up early. Was a frosty start.
Left whilst still darkish to get down to CP before the roads were busy at rush hour…and was then stuck behind a tractor literally the whole way…it turned into the farm before our turn off 😆
Anyway we had a nice walk. Deer in the top field.
And home! To get out of dog walking clothes and into work clothes.Had my second of four services this afternoon and it was lovely.Hello doggy.Couple of phone calls to sort stuff out and just sat very quietly with a dog on my knee…scrolling!5 -
Pleasures for today (Friday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Coffee morning at 10.30 and we did the crossword.
3) Got a few jobs done very quickly and made toasties for lunch.
4) Went to work, which wasn't too bad. Spoke to 3 chaps from our football team today!
5) The roofer phoned about the other leak.
6) Got a newspaper for the free National Trust day pass.
7) Managed to see the pharmacist for antibiotics and we had an argument about whether I am really 50 or not. I said this must be the absolute worst I look, as I'm ill!
8) Waiting for the Traitors and drinking 900 pints of water....6 -
Pleasures for Friday
1. Nice walk with little dog in the sunshine, although muddy so she had a rinse off in the shower.
2. Home made chilli & rice for tea.
3. Good chats with DD, Ds2 & mum.
4. Thank you the lady off freecycle that gave me an oil filled radiator- just takes the chill off the bedroom in the evening.
5. Trying to get some dates in to meet up with friends, want to go to V&A to see the Marie Antoinette exhibition.7 -
For yesterday,
Washed my heavy yard coat and hung it outside as we had some sunshine.
Having a wander around the garden and seeing lots of green shoots coming through for crocuses etc.
Another afternoon nap, don’t know if I’m fighting a virus of some sort but have felt rough all week. Then again it might just be the time of year as it’s 9 years since my lovely Mum died and I still miss her so much ❤️Easy tea of baked spuds with cheesy beans.
Early night and listening to more of my book.6 -
5 pleasures
1) dance - we went to a fabulous africa show with a dancing group from Ethiopia. Then they went looking for audience to take part - despite assiduously avoiding their eye I was one who got picked but I have to say I really enjoyed it - must look up zumba classes when i get back
2) the breeze - we walked along by the river and the breeze was lovely then again today the breeze in the palm trees
3) bbc sounds - now listening to The Wedding Suit by Rachel Joyce - up to episode 4/5
4) weddings - there's a big wedding going on at the hotel (sadly that does mean the swimming pool is closed) and we were able to see all the lovely clothes
5) a shower after a workout - very refreshing20*25 for 2025: 489 / 5006 -
