Good morning. Too dark to see what the weather's doing but it's very cold.
Happy New Year - late, I know, but we've been away in an iffy connectivity spot.
S Sue - lovely to see you again. Baby steps. Now you've made a big decision everything will begin to fall into place.
New friends - hello. You'll like it here. It's a good place to be.
So...
Away for New Year in North York Moors. Bitterly cold but stunningly beautiful.
Saw the fancy dress sea dip at Scarborough. Crazy! We were freezing wearing big coats, hats, scarves etc. Didn't feel even a bit tempted but made a donation to the organisers, Lions, as being the least we could do.
Found lots of nice cafes selling good cakes. DSM - diet starts Monday. Again.
Food at the hotel was very good too with the best egg free options I've ever been offered. I was spoilt for choice, and that's very unusual
So back home. We'd taken the Christmas decorations down before we left so I'm very glad that's not to do. But the DSM will be difficult in a house full of chocolate and biscuits. Discipline, that's what I need.
Happy weekend everyone. Keep warm7 -
For yesterday,
A trip to the emporium for a few bits of fresh F&V plus eggs, some veg was rtc so will be soup making today.
Made time to get organised for the year ahead with kitchen calendar filled in with all notable dates plus personal weekly planner.
Off to BuryStEds to visit food store for girlie’s chaff and balancer mix, picked up a bag of treats for her as well. On to yard where I added two extra bales of shavings to her bed to really bulk it up ahead of the cold nights to come. Fetched her in and got her settled, chat with fellow owners.
Home, cold and hungry so a mug of hot chocolate and biscuits.
New to me recipe for tea, Italian baked eggs and very nice it was too, especially with the crusty baguette picked up in shop.4 -
Now that's a timely reminder - I too have some cream left over. Now to find a jam jar...mhagster said:I made butter! And was ever so chuffed! Sooo easy! Again using up cream that hadn’t been used.
I have read The Housemaid and my friend who passed it on and her husband have also recommended the film
For yesterday
1) New bedding - I put it on 1st January and I slept so well
2) New Year Root Soup (from the New Covent Garden soup book) - not only did it use up the last Christmas parsnip and slightly sad celery it was absolutely delicious
3) @Mrs_Salad_Dodger's fab Decluttering thread which this year she's added Redistribution - it 'isn't just about getting rid of things it's about changing houses into homes' 26 minutes a day and have already transformed one cupboard in my bedroom, finding my ceilidh shoes (lost for so long I thought I'd left them at a ceilidh), my favourite hat, a scarf that will fit under my winter coat and a heap of flannels so that has saved some pennies!
4) The piano - a glorious hour playing Mendelssohn and Debussy
5) Chicken curry - made a big pan full - wonderful comfort food which I consumed with joy while watching Midsummer Murders20*25 for 2025: 489 / 5005 -
For yesterday
1. A cold frosty start to the day but no snow here. I still walk my neighbours dog on a Friday so I had a lovely walk. The views were great and was good to get out in the fresh air.
2. Met and had a long talk with the local farmer. Never probably talked to him before.
3. Bathroom had a really good clean. Not much need to buy soap or deodorant for quite a few months.
4. Good train journey to London even with engineering works on the line. A glorious sunset.
5. An excellent Viennese new year concert at St Martin's in the Field church.
It is a lovely setting for the concert and when Charing Cross station is open its very convenient to get to.5 -
Lovely to see you again @Suffolksue - as others have said, be kind to yourself, baby steps. I'm setting my timer for 26 minutes (since it's 2026!) and putting on some music to help the sorting cos sorting gets me down but knowing there's a set time and doing it to music is most definitely helping. As does looking at the small bit now sorted after 3 sessions. The neatly folded towels are I realise bringing me much joy (and totally mse!)20*25 for 2025: 489 / 5005

Ohh I've just caught up on posts, and I'm now tempted to make butter with leftover cream......
I’ve reached out on a local fb group as we have run out of newspapers for litter trays and using puppy pads is an expensive pastime. A few possibles so we will see.
Popped to the pharmacy for repeat meds, and then to aldi just for a top up, it was ridiculously busy.
Chicken pieces for dinner.
Flitting between reading and tidying, and of course cleaning keeps giving.

A day where I’d made some plans ( as in got for a nice doggy walk) didn’t come to fruition.Up early.Painted three shelves on bookcase…dog looking at me like I was daft as it was so early 😆 as he walked by and went back to bed! An hour later came back down to do the second coat. Then went for my shower. Was watching something when DD2 called needing some help, so went over to hers. And it was mid afternoon before I got home. Hello doggy!Beautiful day in a 1o kind of way. No snow here, just heavy frost! Had to rely on the east coast relatives for photos of snowy fun!Snoozette on sofa.Going to turn into a baked potato as had another one today! Had tuna and cheese.
Had a couple of oranges for my tea as they need used up.Put books back in bookcase. Have a bag filled with library books so need to work out when mobile library is here. A bag to go to caravan which I’ll put in the car tomorrow and a bag to be dropped off at supermarket charity bookshelf. Bookcase was positively glowing pink when I came back downstairs this morning in a yikes kind of way but looks fine now it’s dried and filled! Was just starting watching Traitor’s when friend called and as we’ve just said goodbye she said we’ve been chatting for 2.5 hours! Only spoke with her yesterday 😆…always lots to say to each other! And that was Saturday…I’m so ready for it to be Monday and back into a sense of normality 😆7 -
