Mhags, ouchie, please take it easy with the bruising.
We’re having the conversation of what happens “if” we go to war, I guess the pleasure from it being as prepared as you think you can be, but I’m not sure if you ever could be really…
My first order of 2026 is for a multizonal electric blanket, not feeling my age much..
I made a turkey curry with a Christmas portion, and rice I cooked up yesterday, and my search for a good curry sauce continues, this one was good thou it was Lloyd Grossman’s tikka, but it feels like a lifelong search for one I really want.
Just updated the Gas and Electric, not sure it’s a pleasure but it’s up to date.
Watching the new Harlen Coben series on Netflix, isn’t relaxing but is very good.

Hello from the land of cold and achy! Thank you for your concern! Gave myself a fright more than anything as it could have been worse! All I could think of as I was going up in the air knowing I was coming straight back down was I’ve got work on Wednesday! And this is going to hurt! And as I lay there like a chalked out murder scene on the floor…was assess your injuries 😆 right…you’ve not broken anything. Yes it’s sore but it’s not broken and then a how am I getting up? And luckily a dog came along and I used him as a steady base ( as much as a Labrador can be steady) so I’m lucky that I just ache!An achy night so I was glad to get to morning and get up.Out with DD2 this morning. oh my goodness! It was so dangerously slippy. Had to go into town to post office and the carpark was like an ice rink, then the Main Street which is cobbled was like a cobbled ice rink! A lady went down in front of me. As we all precariously went to help her…visions of a pile of people!DD2 texting me where was I? Had I fallen? No…but someone else had! However I had sneakily popped into the charity shop 😆 and then we went to other one at bottom end of town. Got two new jumpers. A long woollen dress. A set of stacking baking tins that I’d seen the other week and regretted not getting so I was glad they were there. A pair of dungarees! And a black long sleeved top. All washed and dried.Into big supermarket where I had a voucher for as a recent thank you gift so I bought some big bath sheets for the caravan for swim season..16 weeks and counting! And a very pretty bed sheet. And a cardigan for work that was in the sale. I try to buy much of my work clothes from charity shops ( heck most of my clothes for living are 😆) but I find most jumpers /cardigans are all bobbled and worn. ( though the two I got today were new…not work colours!)
And home and hello doggy!Bit of worky stuff to do. Calls to make and meetings booked in with new families.Friends came for tea. We had chicken fajitas made with RTC chicken, RTC mushrooms, an onion from my 15p bag and a pepper. Made potato wedges with my 15p spuds. And RTC salad. Then we had a crumble made with the last of the RTC plums, the frozen RTC blackberries and raspberries from Christmas time and I added in one of my breakfast apples! And used up the tin of scooshy cream from Christmas! So a good tea made with either RTC or use ups! Lots of chatter and laughter round the table which makes me happy!DD2 and The Chap popped in briefly to leave a dog briefly. And then everyone all left. My dog and I said sigh and loaded the dishwasher 😆
And I am having a night of no heating coming on as we are not forecast to freeze overnight. Cold but not freezy! Hopefully!!A good day!6 -

For yesterday
1. Beautiful sunrise. Walking towards it on my walk to the bus.
2. Bus stopped at bus stop as it was displaying special service and not the number I wasn't expecting it to be the right one.
3. Work good both managers were working elsewhere until 1 came back at 4.15 so a bonus. She was there and saw I agreed to see a really late patient which I think everyone else would have turned away.
4. DH picked me up again on walk back from bus stop. This generally very rarely happens - probably less than once a month so on consecutive days is a real treat.
5. Arranging to meet up with my sister on Friday.6 -
For yesterday,
Had oats and mincemeat that needed using up so made a pan of MM flapjack for the cake tin.
Down to the GC for bird seed and found a greatly reduced large diary in the sale, I like one for the kitchen for meal planning etc so that went in my basket then I had enough points on loyalty card to pay for it in full, nice.
The horses were in again and when I got there my girlie didn’t seem quite right, to be frank there wasn’t any poos in her stable so biggest suspect was sluggish digestive system, we had a walk in hand and found a patch of grass that had very little snow left on it, half an hour on that and all was well again iyswim.
Cheddar & leek orzotto for tea, warming bowl of food.
Watched the new version of Lynley, love the books by E George but not sure how true to them this is so enjoyable in a fluffy kind of way.7 -
Lainey can you share your flapjack recipe as I have oats and mincemeat too!

Good afternoon. Bright and sunny though still cold. Not as bitter though.
Paulie H - and breathe! Glad you managed the move. Time for a little rest, I think
Mhagster - ouch. And the shock too when you're suddenly on the ground looking up. Arnica!
S Sue - please keep posting. Gradually, slowly, you're sounding a tiny bit more positive x
No yoga Monday. Friend and I decided not to risk icy pavements. Will wait until it's a bit safer under foot.
So some new year sorting and cleaning instead ( would much rather have been at yoga😂). Charity shop bag filling up again.
Reading Black Wolf, the latest Louise Penny. Excellent, as always. And somewhat frighteningly prophetic.
Back to cooking again. Chowder and salmon risotto so far. Carbonara next. All using Christmas leftovers.
Got a lovely new journal with the hope of being more focussed. You never know....
Happy 🌞 day everyone7 -
Of course, but be warned as these are sweet but oh so moreish!mhagster said:Lainey can you share your flapjack recipe as I have oats and mincemeat too!
You need a greased 21cm square cake tin and an oven heated to 170 fan or gas mark 5.
Melt 8oz butter with two tablespoons of golden syrup over a low heat, meanwhile in a bowl mix 8oz of Oats with the same of SR flour and 6oz Caster Sugar. Add the melted butter / syrup liquid and mix until fully combined. Put half the mixture in the tin and press down, spread the mincemeat on top then cover with the rest of the flapjack mixture. Bake until golden brown, depends on your oven but mine went for 30 mins. Leave it for 5 mins , cut into squares then allow to cool completely in your tin.
This is a softer, crumbly kind of flapjack rather than the harder, crunchy kind x7 -
Thanks Lainey I’ll give it a go and maybe just make a half batch…lest I eat it all!
Another chilly day but has been bright and sunny.I led a lovely service this morning. And had such a lovely chat with the family this afternoon. With the most beautiful, affirming feedback.Nice drive there and back…though woah at the folk walking on the road rather than the pavement ( which I get were slippy…but roads have moving cars!)
Popped into supermarket on way home, met Mum’s NDN so had a lovely chat with her. And then bought myself 2 bunches of daffodils as my nice thing for me.Wearing a new to me dress today that I’d bought weeks ago in charity shop and didn’t quite fit until today and feeling nice in it.Home…hello doggy who was sick last night ( on my bedroom floor 🤢) so he’s on chicken and rice!Had a snoozette on the sofa! Must have been a deep snooze! Woke up to three missed calls and several texts! ( phone was still on silent from work) dealt with all of them and then phoned my third new family and booked in my time with them. Busy. Busy. And an early night beckons for both doggy and I. Tomorrow is another day!6
