it's got a bit chilly. DS (the only visitor left) has a bad cold

1) doggy walk couple with litter pick - another 80 items which brings my total this year to 1930 (still hoping to make it to 2025 for this year)
2) reading mum's library book - the latest Rev Richard Coles
3) mum made very nice soup for lunch with the turkey stock, the last of the turkey and some veg - I invited gbf who's just back
4) then the three of us went to the Dundee Rep winter show - Jack and the Beanstalk - very very good
5) and now under the duvet - i've just listened to the Archers @ampersand20*25 for 2025: 489 / 5006 -

A knock on the door from the gas man, who spent a long time on the road, there are problems, it looks like the new year will be fun,
It’s been a lovely time, but I’ve had to send apologies to this week’s invite, I am not sure how its gone down.
A good sleep
A brief trip to aldi and a fare few reductions snaffled away in the happy freezer.
I made toad in the hole that actually turned out well – I am surprised, which used up the last of the Christmas day pigs in blankets.

Chilly old night again after another sunny day. About to leave Trumpy emporium, to what will be &squat hwb-bedland about half an hour away 💓.....and fuel up en route, &!🧐 Little orange light etc. etc......
1. Latest emporium 'Little Treat' was £3 off shopping bill. Merci beaucoup.👍👏🤗
2. Lazy ncd+nsd yesterday, if any longtime ospers remember they mean No Car Day+No Spend Day. Not really lazy though, as the Afghan blankie was FINALLY finished. As for &'s fiddly picot edging... Cursed self and unpicked a few times, to recount and re-do. But done is done.
3. Very glad to have seen S on Christmas Day, now 11 years straight and a good, happy pic together.🙏🫶😀
4. NHS and Addenbrookes afternoon was long, more tomorrow also as next week's precursor to more BROH. Again, such good people and surprise mtg with J+J(summer marriage) and one Mum.
5. Lovely to cross paths with M, who lives in a remarkable old chapel, filled with wonderful antique-y all sorts and we, long friends, occasionally opposing bidders!....😁
5. Pics from &'s invited daughter of several days and glorious feast tables over chrimbo, at a gathering of 20-ish family+friends of a fellow worker at CanSupport in Delhi, her life's work.

Yippee! Pics finally loaded.👍

2) 'free' coffee - we both have a subscription which entitles us to 2 hot drinks per month and neither of us had been in December so we started with coffee then shopped then ended with coffee
3) the sales - bought some lovely new bedding in the sale (have been using the children's castoffs) - I will use 1st January
4) the river tay - walked into town alongside the river with dS, hot drinks (1 free) then bus home (me free, I paid for DS)
5) football with mates
then a very cold walk home and now in bed with Mrs Brown and christmas pudding chocolate

For yesterday,
Bad night with around 3 hours sleep so oh the pleasure of the first cuppa.
No time to tarry though as off up Norf to visit both DSS plus lovely fiancée, bless him Capt S did the driving and we entertained ourselves by catching up on all things Ambridge. We don’t normally stop at any of the food & drink outlets on the way but I’d forgotten a flask so did a drive through and I had a surprisingly good hot chocolate.
Arrived around 11 and after hellos we went for a much needed leg stretch, they have a young spaniel who is full of energy so he raced around while our older lady just enjoyed all the new sniffs.
Lovely lunch, opened presents and generally had a good old catch up.
Home just after 7.30, exactly 12 hours after we had set off so a long day, think we were all pleased to get into our PJ’s / cosy bed and snooze the evening away.6 -
Morning all.
Cold and frosty 'up Norf' but good to see the sun again after quite a lot of damp, grey weather.
Some pleasures:
1) We've had a month of Christmas which has been lovely but oh so ready for 'normal life' again. First we must pack as off to brother and SIL in Wiltshire for another celebration - his birthday - and then two nights in Oxford.
2) Didn't want to come home to leftover Christmas - in fairness we put our tree and decs up in November for the family get together, so have packed them all away and had a good clean up so all will be fresh and tidy when we return. Wouldn't suit everyone but suits us just fine.
3) A long chat with my other brother. We will all meet up at the birthday brother's house, they are arriving today, us tomorrow, but greatly enjoyed a 1:1 catch up.
4) Had a laugh and a rush of childhood memories when I got very messed up and DIL called me a 'muck tub'. Very northern expression that I hadn't heard for years. Probably sounds awful to more cultured folks but was always said with love and laughter whilst wielding a brisk flannel! Took me right back seventy odd years.
5) Looking forward to January, my favourite month. A tough month for some and they'll be in my thoughts but I love the time of quiet reflection and calm with nature pared to the bone.
So all that's left to do is to wish my laptop friends as DH calls you (!) a very Happy New Year and I'll catch up with al your pleasures in 2026.
