Hello again.
Paulie - belated Happy Birthday wishes, all sounds perfect. We, too, visited Suffolk for a week last year so had a little trip down Memory Lane, it's a beautiful part of the world. Hubby especially was taken with the little theatre as he does a lot of stuff with our local amateur rep company and somehow wrangled a behind the scenes visit!
Some recent pleasures:
1) It's quite bit warmer but very blustery and still quite grey but the garden tells us that Spring is springing so we inch forward in the year.
2) A long walk round a local reservoir stretched our legs but it was very cold and grey so the biggest pleasure was the cuppa afterwards!
3) A lot of doing nothing much this week, enjoying a bit of downtime.
4) Freezers are stocked with homemade ready meals for lazy weeks such as this!
5) A busy week ahead with nice things to look forward to.
Have a good day, whatever you are up to.6 -
Belated birthday wishes from me too Paulie.
My OS pleasures (from the past couple of days):
1) A couple of quick phone calls and I now have an appointment (though not for another five weeks) to get a water meter installed. I hope that it’s possible to install one, and hope that it will cut the ridiculously large water bills down significantly now there’s only me and the big lump of a dog living here. We were shelling out around £850 a year before, and Mister CJ was always resistant to any sort of change! Love ’im.
2) Visited my favourite Community Larder earlier in the week where, in addition to meeting up with the other users who are just so lovely and many of whom I now consider friends, I came away with two Aldi bags full of the most amazing meals, veg, fruit and treats. All for a voluntary £1 donation - I know the larder does receive some grants/funding but £1 is crazy and I always donate more. This week I came away with a Charlie Bigham beef curry and rice and a Charlie Bigham lasagne (both of which I think are about a tenner each in the supermarket!) some prawn toasts and bao buns all of which are safely stashed in my freezer now, and a beautiful M&S fillet steak which I had for dinner with free salad on Wednesday night. I’ve made soup with the leeks and potatoes I picked up, had a Pret falafel and hummus salad for lunch, and made a cauliflower cheese for tomorrow. Lots more stuff too. Amazing.
3) I seem to have turned into Angry Grumbling Woman, firstly with the funeral directors regarding their appalling handling of Mister CJ (I won’t go into details here as I am part way through an official complaint, but they have behaved terribly) and secondly with the Gastropub where I took the family for lunch yesterday. Four out of seven of us had meals which were inedible! The pleasures I suppose are that the funeral directors are conducting a thorough inquiry into what happened, and the pub apologised and took four mains off the bill. I don’t much like complaining, but I’m pleased at standing up for myself despite being grief-stricken and therefore a bit vulnerable.
4) A nice quiet day at home today, just needed some time to be gentle with myself.5) I’ll bank number five for another time 😊6 -

Hello.I’m having an early night…I have done today!Up early ( after having to jump out a helicopter at the beach opposite my grandads house and hoping the dog could do the jump too…he did and then I woke up!)
Went into town this morning …very bright and early ( well the weather certainly wasn’t! It’s been so wild all day) and got a free parking space. Had to hand an invoice in for one work place and popped in to my usual work place to say a quick hello) CJ I am so sorry to read you have had a poor experience with FD as they normally strive to get it just right. But you are absolutely right to complain!Popped into favourite coffee shop when I’m in town. Couldn’t tell you the last time I was down town. But had a nice chat with owners who used to be my employers in a different job many years ago.And then popped into old work ( of the more recent kind) and got some paint to paint the table legs…if I ever get that far…still blooming sanding! It’s halfway sanded though so that’s more than it was at the start of the week. Nice chat with the girls and came away with a free cake! And home and started sanding and sanding and sanding!Had a nice chat with my sister.Had a wee snoozette ( about 20 minutes ) then back to sanding!Chat to DD2.And then I thought I’ve had enough of today! Not particularly tired at the moment but shall just be cosy!6 -
C_J - I'm sorry to hear about the funeral directors. That's absolutely what you don't need at the moment. Good news about the community fridge. We have a Food Share which sounds similar (£2 a bag) but you can also buy a meal while you're there.
Pleasures for today (Friday)
1) One for yesterday. On a whim, messaged an ex from a few years ago. Had a lovely chat and he's doing ok, living in the south east now.
2) Not a bad sleep.
3) Went to the coffee morning and had a game of extended chess on the 10x10 board.
4) Went to floody city and had a cup of tea in Waitrose and bought YS smoked fish.
5) Went to the charity shop and got smaller son a shirt and jumper. They're both too short in the body and arms! (He's 6 feet 4). Also bought a book and a Portmeirion mug that was really dirty but looks great after a spell in the dishwasher.
6) Contacted a handyman about having the blown away garage skylight replaced and a gutter repairing. He will visit on Tuesday.
7) Made kedgeree for tea.

Concerned about how weak the politics in the UK are now.
Belated Happy Birthday Paulie, a lovely photo.
Over the past few days.
1 A catch up with DB
2 I’m not sure what’s happened to my kitchen abilities, its like I should be banned now, resorted to freezer to oven food tonight and it still went horrifically wrong.
3 I did a tiny bit of de cluttering, 4 tops, 4 photo frames, it’s little.
4 Booked Fuse in for a follow up with the vets and enjoyed cuddles for the hour journey there and another hour back. Honestly somewhat hit in the gut with not good news so we are booked in for an ultrasound next week.
5 Side tracked on the way back to Iceland to pick up 2 reductions.
For yesterday
We went over to the in-laws as they were having an issue or two, but the day was odd, a very shortened version is, there was unusual delay upon delay getting out of the door. Then the car broke down on the motorway, but thankfully near a services but we needed to coast into the services and thankfully had a bit of hard shoulder, but there were old motorway signs not in use making us have to get into the live lane, they really do hate cars now. We got to the services, something had seized, we were letting it cool, but had the car in bits so used the services one after the other while keeping an eye on the car, then DH was taking it apart but we reached the point where we would call out breakdown, when a guardian angel who had been watching us not panic stepped into help us. He was a mobile mechanic with all his tools, without him we wouldn’t be back on the road. We offered him a thank-you and he flat out refused. Very grateful for those who do help. As there were a lot there who could have helped but didn’t. We did get there about 4 hours late.
For today
1 The house is what I call minimally cleaned, it didn’t pass my if someone turns up test so swept and mopped.
2 Tried again at cooking, this time a curry, whole rice etc from scratch, and it smells okay and hasn’t killed us yet.
3 Lovely seeing swathes of crocuses waking up in the garden to a glimmer of sunlight, all be it 5 minutes worth.
4 It was still daylight at 5pm.

CJ - sorry to hear about the FD, hope your complaint is upheld and fully investigated.
Paulie - happy belated birthday.
purple kitten - sounds a nightmare but thank goodness for a strangers kindness.
Pleasures for Friday
1. Another lie in.
2. Another muddy dog walk, who in their right mind would get a small white dog. Met my dog walker and did a longer walk, was good to chat.
3. Sausage on a roll - yum
4. finally moved round furniture in my room so can now close the door.
5. Went out for dinner with my man friend, had a really nice time.7 -
Oh CJ, just what you could do without at such a stressful time, if nothing else your complaint may help another family suffering the same problems.
Thank goodness for the kindness of other PK
Ditto on a white horse Topsy 🙄
For yesterday,
A much milder day and I had to dig out a lighter jacket, gives us hope at least!
Sorted through some costume jewellery that I inherited from DM and put it aside for donation, I wear very little sparkly stuff and hopefully someone else can get some joy from it.
Over to the yard, my girlie had her lightest rug on but had obviously laid down in the mud so her face was covered in mud, that was my first job. I did swing by another possibility yard wise on the way home, the lady seemed really nice but the facilities were at best basic and the opportunities to hack out limited so it will have to be a no, problem is we have been so spoilt at the farm.
Home feeling despondent and out of sorts but a good chat with beloved over a glass of wine put that right.
Easy tea of sweet pot wedges and chicken, Friday night tv.5 -
Good afternoon
Frith - it's great that life is beginning to make sense for younger son
Purple Kitten - a real life knight on a white charger. Thank goodness.
I've had one cataract done!! Was booked for pre op Wednesday. All fine so 'Go to reception to book your first procedure'. Expected some time in March/April and they said this Friday (ie yesterday!) 9:25!! So I'm done.
It's a private clinic I was referred to by Specsavers but done under the NHS. Was very impressed by their efficiency. And free coffee and biscuits.
This morning, after gently cleaning my gummy eye, all is well. Feels slightly tender but nothing else and vision already improved! Now need to book for the other eye.
We've been watching Unforgotten on catch up. Only one episode left and I've no idea whodunit! You'd think years of Only Connect would help here. Will find out tonight.
Happy Saturday everyone
