For yesterday,
Wielded hoover and duster until downstairs looked 👍
Changed the seasonal decs over on mantlepiece ahead of Imbolc today, now yellow candles, spring flowers etc, very cheery.
Transferred survey earnings into account, after a slow start they really picked up the last couple of weeks.
Afternoon at home and the treat of a hot chocolate and a hot x bun, my first of the year.
Played a few games of Yahtzee and then watched Cats does Countdown.6 -
Morning everyone.
Hope the poorlies are improving and that things have settled a bit for you, weenancy.
After a couple of days of glorious sunshine and warmer weather we are back to cold wind and grey skies. It's a shame as I think we all feel more energised when the sun shines.
Anyway, some pleasures from this week:
1) Enjoyed quite a few days not knowing at all what day it was as we had been away at the start of the week so Wednesday felt like Monday and so on. It amused me anyway.
2) A tiny little cluster of perfect snowdrops under a tree on one of our walks, just lovely.
3) Hubby's theatre group had their AGM so we have the play dates through to summer 2026. They do four productions a year sowe can now go ahead and make plans round the dates. Theatre tickets in a nearby city now booked as luckily the dates fit and will firm up some holiday plans with family.
4) Some good books on the go and on the reading pile. Haven't read any Niall Williams before but am enjoying his writing very much, currently reading Time of the Child and will add others to my ever-expanding reading list.
5) Wiltshire brother is up for the weekend so we can celebrate his second batch of excellent results after his radiotherapy treatment. Beyond relieved for him.
Busy few days in store so looking forward to more pleasures. Meeting up with brothers and wives for a meal and a theatre trip this evening, we have been invited to Sunday lunch to meet the new baby in 'real life' and then smallest grandson's birthday and birthday tea on Monday.
Have a good weekend.6 -
@weenancyinAmerica. most definitely - the latter half of this week has been particularly tough. Higher Education continues to be in a mess in the UK. 5 good things
1) colleague's inaugural professor talk - very good, excellent turn-out and followed by another new prof's talk (role of something i can't remember in cancer cell growth, very well delivered to the educated lay audience, of whom i would most definitely class myself on this topic!
2) review of the year - my division's 3 slides that I submitted were all included :-) showing the recognition of the Dean of the importance of our teaching, research and consultancy. i am so proud of my team
3) celebratory dinner with new prof colleague, family and friends. honoured to be invited - we took over a whole (albeit small) restaurant. such a good evening and just as I was going to leave
4) bat call from DrM re football - friend next to me on dry January so had her car and gave me a lift :-) I did text DrM to say I would be in the the 2nd half and, due to cocktails and wine, only water needed!
5) choir on Thursday practising for candlemas on Sunday - we practised in the cathedral the a capella bits we're doing - brrrrrr - we kept our coats on! but the sound was beautifulMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Good news that your job will continue for a few months Frith, maybe there will be vacancies in another department by that time to which you could transfer. Fingers crossed!I’m sorry to bring down the upbeat atmosphere of this thread, and I don’t really know why I am posting as I don’t really know folk here (I read, but rarely post these days) but very sadly my husband passed away yesterday afternoon (at home with me, our daughters and their husbands). The cancer finally won. I am struggling to find five pleasures for today, but it might be comforting so here goes …
1) Amazing support from my lovely family, we’ve helped each other through the awfulness a lot over recent months
2) I know I did right by him, and gave him the end he wanted. Peacefully, surrounded by love, in the place he wanted to be
3) Going ahead with running a party for my granddaughter’s 3rd birthday today. We didn’t want to cancel it because of our grief and I’m glad we didn’t - you can’t be sad when you are in a village hall with 25 over-excited pre-schoolers and a bouncy castle. I’m so glad we did it, she loved her party but hoo boy I am tired now!
4) Grateful for being organised enough to have batch cooked some simple meals for the freezer recently so at least I’ve had something to eat tonight. Not sure I’d have been bothered with food otherwise, and I do need to eat
5) Very grateful for the big soppy cuddles from my clumsy hairy Womble of a dog. He’s missing his master, and we’re united in our sadness.7 -
CJ I am so sorry to read about your husband. Be gentle to yourself and rest when you can. If you can. Be comforted by your love for each other. If people offer, accept their help. Take care x

For today.Early schmearly.
Skinny malinky club.Had dog in car so didn’t stay though had a quick chat with a few folk I’m friendly with.
And straight down to CP for a lovely walk. It was not frosty at my end of town but was at the opposite end and out in the countryside. Walked a little bit further than I normally do as I have to put dog back on lead as too near main road but was rewarded with the most stunning find of thousands of snowdrops! Oh! I was filled with joy.
And home, quick breakfast, quick wash of patio doors ( I’ve had all week!) as they were filthy after the storm. Quick change of clothes.
And out to work.Home. Quick lunch.
And out to work! Two sets of new families to meet today.Home and sat and wrote the first family’s service so it’s been sent off…and I await with anticipation ! More writing in the morning.Fire has been on but it’s now dwindling.7 -
C_J I’m so sorry, animals always pick up on when you need them most.
1 I did the basics to keep the house clean, full clean of one of the animal places, relevant wash loads, basic sweep around. Ended up cleaning up the bathroom and upstairs glass/windows/display units.
2 Freddo’s meds have started to kick in, what a difference he’s up and down the stairs, happily joining sleeping at the bottom of the bed, I couldn’t find him for his meds and he’d gone back up doing star shapes!
3 Food wise has been leftover takeaway for lunch, and dinner is a fake fish and chips from freezer to oven.
4 Watching a movie tonight that was on an amazon flash offer.
5 DH wanted to pop out for 2 lights from ald1, and we picked up some easy peelers and cherries for things to snack on.
6 Remembered to play the lotto for once.

C-J I’m sorry to see this be gentle with yourself and take pride and comfort in the knowledge, that you did your best for him and gave him his last wish .Hugs

C-J - I am very sorry to hear your news - look after yourself. I'm glad you were able to go ahead with your granddaughter's party.
Pleasures for today (Saturday)
1) Much less ill, after a long sleep. Just a bad cold now.
2) Pootled around during the morning.
3) Smaller son went to watch the football BY HIMSELF!!! This is the very first time ever he has been to anything alone. He sent me a text now and again but was fine. We always stand in the same place with the same people around.
4) I didn't know what to do after I dropped him off so I sat in Waitrose cafe and listened to the commentary on my phone!
5) Made a very nice shepherds pie for tea, with gravy and peas. I have just made a blackcurrant tart. Ready made cheating pastry base, blackcurrants from the freezer (and my garden) then one of those sachets of glaze stuff. It is in the fridge now.
6) Vaguely starting to organise my 50th birthday party (which will be people playing badminton or chess at my house with cakes and pots of tea). Mentioned it to one of my sixth form college friends so she might be coming. All my school and college friends moved away during/after university.
7) About to watch Casualty. Any second now...
Got to get up for an early shift tomorrow, which I could do without whilst feeling ill! One more week then I have a fortnight off.7 -
C-J so sorry to read your news. This is a thread where much sorrow has been shared along with much happiness. I'm very glad you were able to provide the end he wanted. As others have said be kind to yourself, and glad you have Womble.MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025
