Great find for a chess lover Frith
For yesterday,
More sunshine and it was breezy too so yard jackets washed and mostly dried on the line.
Talking of which over to the stables in the morning and saw my girlie in her field, medication administered but she wasn’t in a communicative mood so left her to it.
Lunch with Capt S, his company are moving offices this week and think he was grateful for a break!
Heating engineer turned up and diagnosed a faulty valve on our boiler, all fixed in 30 minutes and we have timed hot water once again. He was a very chatty young fella who regularly shoots and has spaniels so was very friendly to small dog.
Watched and enjoyed Bake Off, this weeks treat was sticky toffee pudding.7 -
Pleasures for today (Wednesday)
1) A terrible sleep (still awake at 5.30) but doesn't seem to have slowed me down much.
2) Had French toast with blueberries for breakfast.
3) Went to the bit of town which seems to be turning into a self contained village. It has a better selection of shops and things going on than the town centre now (which has over 20 empty shops). Went to the charity shop then to the bread shop for a nice loaf and 2 doughnuts.
4) Popped to the garden centre and talked to the man in the queue about the football. Had a pot of tea there and carried on reading Peter Crouch's third book.
5) Listed a top on Ebay that I bought from a charity shop yesterday but didn't really like after all. I very rarely do that but it is a good make and it is always good to add to the kitchen floor fund.
6) Phoned the bank and changed Quidco so it will pay directly into my savings account.
7) Spent an hour or so cleaning the spare room properly - hoovering, dusting, cleaning the window and changing the bed, because no one has slept in it for 6 month+ so it must have been dusty. Also hoovered the landing and cleaned the stairs. 2 loads of washing done.
8) Went to see bigger son at 4.30 so he could repair 2 of the chessmen (charity shop buy) and he gave me some linseed oil to perk them up a bit.
9) Shakshuka for tea.
10) Catching up with GBBO now.

Hello. Been a dull and drizzly kind of day here.I’d a quiet day. Wrote a list of chores and did all but one of them.Did a bit of work stuff for tomorrows service. I’ve been my own boss for a whole year today! Got a lovely email from the family I worked for yesterday and a lovely chat with my mentor who called me and sang happy birthday!Lit the fire this afternoon.Chatted to sister.
DD2 came for tea then we walked both dogs.6 -
1 Nestle is wobbling into the land of the living, ambling around, phew, safe to say yesterday was very “iffy”. Our other poorly has started antibiotics and painkiller and we’re hoping it should all kick in tomorrow, if not we will be back on Monday.
2 Tasking myself with tidying parts of the lounge today. We have units with “stuff” on so I’m starting with 2 units and removing everything, washing, and then cleaning the unit, then beeswaxing, they really do look better, and removed a couple of things, such as aa decanter – we rarely drink, but I’m not sure what to do with it now.
3 Made a soup for lunch for something warming as DH has spent the whole morning / day outside working on my car, I’ve decided it gets through this MOT, but then it’s done end of next year, it’s been amazing , 24 years old, but we are repairing holes and welding bodywork now, and there are other bits such breaking not failures but it’s obviously it’s time and there is every possibility it may not get through an mot now but we will see.
4 For once I have all the relevant leftovers for a full English but for tea, for us this is, Cumberland sausages, bacon, poached egg, grilled tomato, baked beans and a mop up slice.
5 An early bath and lounge around.

For yesterday,
Sloggus domesticus, cracked on and did upstairs plus bathrooms, as always the pleasure is only when done.
Made a loaf, bit of white plus the last of the spelt flour, not sure that I will buy anymore.
With my pony, a good groom and then a bit of work done before tucking her up in a warm stable rug.
Driving home and a beautiful sunset.
Easy tea of baked spuds and leftover chilli.6 -

2) Cleaned the garage out then cleaned the porch.
3) Bacon sandwiches for lunch.
4) Tiler came to give me a quote.
5) Toad in the hole for tea.
6) Watching an Extra Slice and will watch Ambulance afterwards.6 -
1 We had to run a few errands, prescription picked up, DH went to his normal place for welding bits, but it's been taken over and no where near as good, so with a bit of googling we found a place down a backstreet locally that sells it even cheaper, and a fantastic independent coffee shop run in a little hut with picnic tables so no “big chain” costs, well anything other than coffee for me, we never knew where they were.
2 For the first time in 9 months, we needed things that only Mr T stock and had on offer, so we pondered in, good grief we detest that place now, but got some of the things. Half price pork at 3.50kg, Ben and Jerrys at £3, and “fancy biscuits reduced to “3”. Because we’ve not been so long, we didn’t realise the new way of doing things is everything goes through full price until the Clubcard is swiped, when it went from £75 to £47, DH was incandescent that really they are reduced to normal price for some of it.
3 Our dinner turned out to be a “surprise” when it turned out to be one chop and part stewing steak, with leftover bubble and squeak with a hint of err curry, not known for my cooking skills but actually tasted fine.
4 I received many thanks but no thanks emails, but in amongst them were two interview requests for next week which I’ve accepted great if I do get one, but also great for practice.

Thursday.Up early.
Went over to DD2 house to let some chaps in. Dehumidifiers removed as it’s all dry enough…so dry that my nasal lining dried up instantly! Very bizarre!
Home and got ready for work. Sunny drive. Service went well and again just such a lovely family to work with.
And home. Fire on as it was chilly.
DD2 came down for tea. We had RTC chicken pie from the freezer. Little tiny roast potatoes using up the last of the potatoes from when they were staying, RTC parsnips and RTC broccoli and RTC green beans…and a full price carrot 😆
And I just enjoyed the quiet when they left. The most atrocious sleep ! Saw much of the night.Have a great day9 -
For yesterday,
My it’s turned colder the last couple of days so thick socks and jumpers dug out.
Over to Uni City for haircut and a chat about all things footie with hairdresser.Driving home and having a little tear listening to JV talking to Paddy as he takes on his mammoth challenge.
Late trip into horsey town to pick up a prescription from V E T S, also popped into the emporium.
Goats cheese and B squash risotto for tea, caught up on HIGNFY and then Ambulance.8
