Good afternoon
An amazingly beautiful day here. Bright sunshine and warm. Love it
Purple Kitten - hope you're both feeling a bit better now. And you too S.Sue. And now Paulie H. Take care all.
What I want to know today is who designed washing machine drawers? Clearly not someone who lived in a house with ridiculously hard water. And is the person most likely to be the one trying to clean it! It's just taken forever with a toothbrush and bad words! It's a bit better! The worst bit is the sort of grid where the water comes in and no amount of washing soda or vinegar can affect that. Ah well, it's done now.
Covid/flu jab week here. DH Tuesday afternoon and me tomorrow. He had no ill effects other than a sore arm so hoping for the same for me.
Eye test for me too. Cataracts getting worse and need to consider an operation. Oh heck!
But it's sunny. And warm. So all's well.
Happy 🌞day everyone6 -
Pleasures for today (Thursday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Porridge for breakfast.
3) Went to canal town, which was looking a bit neglected today. It hasn't stopped raining long enough for anyone to get outside to tidy up, for the past month! Did the charity shops and bought a Nomads top for £4.
4) Got home and sanded the stairs (filler) then gave them a base coat as only the edges had been painted white before so the middles were brown.
5) Smaller son and I went to Sainsburys and saw one of his old TAs.
6) Looked for a new kettle in Currys but we weren't inspired. The old one has died of extreme overwork. We have the little blue kettle working on the cooker, usually only needed during power cuts.
7) I just gave the stairs the first coat of gloss paint and they are looking a bit better now. Got some anti slip strips for when it is dry. Smaller son still has a bad back from falling down the stairs the other day and the most impressive bruise (25 cm long) with a carpet burn in the middle!
The non painted parts are so we can use the stairs!

Big hugs all round I think! And stairs looking fab frithUp at usual time and stayed awake😆
Got ready and set off for CP. Got there the back of 9am. We had a lovely walk until a dog decided to chase a squirrel…this is the dog who’s not supposed to run hard so no doubt he’ll be stiff tomorrow. Of course he did not catch the clever squirrel who outran him then darted up a tree. My concern was he’d run on to the main road as he’s always on lead when we get that far down the big driveway. So he was put back on his lead. Being told not to chase squirrels. Had a lovely walk back up the way, the tree colours were stunning.Had a nice quiet morning. Tried to start a book but couldn’t quite get into it. There was a power cut due to work being done on the main road, so I came back just before that happened. We knew it was happening.Home and spoke to sister on phone.
Moved flattened boxes to back of garage, opened the lids of some boxes and thought nah! Not today!Made mince and potatoes and veg for tea with mince leftover for tomorrow.
Set myself a challenge of doing 5 things before bed, so I’ve done all my flowers as one of the things! Going to put a picture back up.It’s been a mild day so I don’t need to put heating on. Hurrah! Got an email to say my DD was being increased. Not by too much but enough! And I’m in a decent amount of credit at the moment.I’ve got two stone pigs that I’ve had as decor for a few years so I’m going to see if the seal actually works and if it’s worth hanging on to them. It’s weird going through the stuff I’ve kept ( as I did do a big clear out before packing) as having lived minimally last 5 months which I didn’t enjoy but then having stuff feels like too much stuff! I need a balance of somewhere in between!Checking in with some friends who need checking in on!And absolutely not a pleasure but I got my solicitors bill in! Holy moly at the cost! Obviously the costs had wracked up over 7 months and it’s absolutely galling that I have to pay but they did do all the work/ the searches/ the phone calls/emails etc. It’s just been the most horrendous time and I just want it all done and dusted and paid…then beans on beans I think for the next month or so and rein it all in. Sorry kids no Christmas for you this year it’s been sent to the solicitor! Ho ho ho.
And in the art of being slightly frugal I got RTC parsnips so I’m just going to chop them and parboil them and make a start to this years parsnip mountain in the freezer!6 -
Frith - bump starting was a terrifying rite of passage! Yikes smaller son descending the stairs and so carpet taken up. Impressive steep, and lots of pointy things. "a new sander and some non slip sticky tape" - you are awe-inspiring! Glorious paint job there.mhagster - let there be lamps! And HWBs & beautiful leaves! I do hope NDN pleased for your restored relative peace of mind? nice to have company then nice to have peace & quiet - yep.LaineyT - toasted crumpet, yum... Love "one big lump of therapy"! Then All the horses being extra diva?! Argh tack cleaning but ooh chicken chana.Purple kitten - oh botherit, covid, & dead right to keep eating the happy food. "all about comfort" absolutely!Suffolksue - the Sheer Iniquity of all the care & all the jabs & wham, still, delighted the parrots are working!DundeeDoll - "discovered I am now a concession" no one would believe it!ampersand - truly the Moon is vast!PaulieHerts - absolutely glorious photos - Oh, the Cornish light! So sorry to hear the monster cold has pounced & everyone seems to be in the blast radius.Happycas - cataract surgery has got a lot better and if its time, it's time! Meanwhile enjoy the warm sunny while its about.OS pleasures recentlyThe strange pleasure that is starting a festive stash. Seasonal fizzy mixers are beginning to be reduced…Scout AGM saw me presented with my .'10 years in' badge & framed certificate!Discovered (years after the event) my wonderful cousin is a licensed lay minister whose final training & licensing was in covid over zoom. She’s currently helping a curate cover two parishes whilst a new vicar is located & installed. Somehow having that solid faith (effectively a pro), feels very like our family, which has lots of reverends running back as well as teachers & scientists.Sent some very polite feedback to United utilities, suggesting their assumption my husband was the primary client is both somewhat dated & sexist & a brief look at the account shows it’s paid in full on time from my account. And their online interface won’t let me correct it. Satisfying use of the English language to be scaldingly polite.Youngest a harsh critic of my attempt to cook him something to eat after a heavy day at college. “Add some flavouring” to tinned beef, spuds peas & sweetcorn… I liked it, but he had Standards.Turns out our Heritage Open Day bagged us not just a few curious locals but also an academic from Cornwall who came up to see the building & the looms & met a kindred spirit! Plus our auditor turns out to be a CAMRA buddy so was paid in beers. (How we show that on the balance sheet will be interesting.)“Crawl out though the fallout” has made it into the driving playlist - I’m amused by the lyrics (crawl out … with the greatest of aplomb) & apparently it’s part of some video game? Yet the song is older than I am!Time to crack the apricot kernels & tuck them into the fridge for winter. None of this coax ‘em on until They’ve tried… Meanwhile I still have plenty more apricots to nibble on.Not quite used to this wireless headset - it tells me “battery high” & I wonder on what, from where & how ingested…Alternating computer forensic analysis with sewing bee to keep my brain from locking up. Sew emotional! And for something rather different, trying to get the growing bit out of apricot stones. Which is fun but probably rather more do with the right tools. Says she with a spanner & stubbornness….Turns out I have genetic haemochromatosis. Currently asymptomatic, hurrah but I am having to tell family & that’s less easy. Work brilliant, as boss nearly fell off chair at my “is there any paperwork we need to do for this?”, laughing - we can both see that til the medics say “do X” we can’t do Anything formal.Saw a meme about how “my love language is food” & thought yep! Along with laundry & linen bedding. Plus books Of Course but that’s a demonstration of sentience not wholly love.Cousin recognises me struggling to grow Hunza apricots for him as a love language - yes, made harder by not realising I should get the kernel out of the shell first (d’oh). [If anyone wants to grow apricots from kernels, get a good spanner & a powerful hoover first.]Sewing bee & Esme’s underwear collection (mentioned in series 8) has my imagination doing laps!Red teddy fleece blanket has arrived for Christmas for mum - I want her to be amongst the first of the red hot mommas! She’s got a small grey teddy fleece which is cosy but drab, so a bigger brighter fleece seems like a good idea (& mine is So warm!)Phone call from United utilities “to discuss my feedback” during family zoom, so rescheduled for after class tomorrow. Sisters hugely amused at how my diction becomes much crisper when I’m annoyed… [Dear girl shocked I couldn’t recall the exact death date - thought it kinder not to say it was one of a cluster, but she wholly agreed the website software was a bit vintage!]Scouts! Gleefully vigorously up to mayhem with four forms, a sponge ball & me calling timings… back turned & sited out of line of fire so the blasts were genuinely random. They still got an impressive hit on the trophy cabinet which rattled hideously, but didn’t crack or fall over!Modern technology, very wonderful. Am scheming to wait for Black Friday to upgrade my 'dead but recognised' kindle.Health, Strength, Love & Courage to all as have need, be they managing OK, mending or watching & wondering a bit. May your HWBs not spring a leak!7

take care all6 -
Congrats on the acknowledgment of 10 years in DFV, can I admit to having to look up the haemochromatosis? am hoping that you continue to be asymptomatic x
For yesterday,
Another mild sunny day so washing dried outside, such a pleasure to extend this well into October.
As always the time I spend with my pony, she was still very Woohoo and went around the arena looking very much like one of the impressive Lipizzaners ridden by the Spainish riding school. Then my friends usually very steady neddy did much the same so we are definitely putting it down to full moon madness!Wasn’t a great day cricket wise but listening to TMS makes it bearable, Alex H and Steve F are slotting in just fine.
Made big dish of macaroni cheese with added cauliflower & bacon, comfort food at its best.
The moon was wonderful again, rising large above the trees, Bella Luna.5 -
Mhags, I was just thinking I used to “enjoy” Tesco, pre-pandemic, a great mix for RTC’s but since 2020, I’ve only been back to the big store once and was entirely underwhelmed by the lack of choice and service.
1 I had two leftover seeded rolls, so I warmed them up, I had a poached egg, Dh had a sausage and egg.
2 A few wash loads hanging out, but I've bought them in tonight as the weather tomorrow isn't promising..
3 Comforting pasta bake for tea.
4 Sent off for the MSE bulbs.
5 Contemplating ordering a pumpkin purree tin to attempt a making a pie?? I’m not sure if this is a good idea.
1 Well enough to be frustrated by thing that need doing 😊, aches and pains but touching wood hoping it's passing by now, will re test tomorrow morning.
2 I think I’m getting taste back, and certainly have appetite, a lot of appetite.
3 DH surprised me with a new bulb planter, I’m happy, but didn’t get more in the ground today.
4 Yesterday we asked our local takeaway if they would do a contactless delivery, and they were fab, even hovered to make sure we were okay, and enough leftovers for another meal.
5 Cleaned the fridge out and making food plans using what we have.

Pleasures for today (Friday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Did a coat of undercoat on the steps that I didn't do yesterday.
3) Walked to the coffee morning and had a good time there.
4) Glossed the remaining steps when I got home.
5) Got my first pay from my new job.
6) Went to work from 4-8 and was by myself from 5 onwards. It was OK but would have been awkward if anything had gone wrong!
7) Came home and put the non slip strips on the stairs.
8) Watched Have I Got News For You.7 -

For yesterday,
Dropped car off early doors for fitting of exhaust part and hopefully a MOT pass.
Soaked dried fruit and sugar in hot tea ahead of making a Bara Brith later.
Mini passed and picked up, operation new car forging ahead now.
Afternoon at the yard, nice in the sunshine and girlie was in a happy mood.
Home, quick tea of SF chicken and various salads put together then cake popped into oven, made the cottage smell lovely.6
