Oh Frith, how scary but good to hear that your chap is feeling a bit better.
For yesterday,
Up early so prepped a beef stew and got in the slow cooker.
Long, leisurely bath, I read my current book, The Enchanted April.
We had the stew with broccoli, cauliflower and peas, no tatties as we had chocolate pud for afters.
Got small dog out for a walk before the storm hit, much milder.
The wind started up in earnest around 6pm, very strong gusts and the windows were rattling! We lit candles as the lights kept flickering but in the end we kept our power and managed to watch Vera.6 -
Flipping heck frith, how scary
Pleasures for yesterday
1. a soak in the bath with an episode of 'homeland'
2,. DD came for brunch.
3. a chat with colleague about said terrible marking
4. beef casserole for tea
5. started watching 'After the Flood'.
Have a lovely evening.I wanna be in the room where it happens7 -
Waaah at the weather. I’ve never known such strong winds as last night/ overnight/ this morning. Picked back up again this evening.Garden sofas moved right across the garden. And tree down in the garden behind.Anyway once up this morning it seemed better than lying in bed listening to it.Pup dropped off.Popped to supermarket then went to see the Monday girls from old work. Nice to have a chatter. Then on way back to car I met a girl I went to school with so had a 10 minute chat with her which was nice.Home. Hello dogs.DD2 took a half day so she picked up pup.Was working this evening. So I put the heating on for an hour prior to going out as I packed my work bag and had a shower and got ready.Thought where on earth am I going as sat nav said turn right, turn right, turn right! And thankfully someone was walking their dog so I could say excuse me please! Had a lovely meeting with a family who are going through their saddest time. It’s my privilege to be able to help them and share their story. And home, very quick doggy walk as in long enough to do what needed doing and then back in. It’s ghastly!Chat to DD2. She is so supportive and encouraging of my new career ( as is everyone really but I need all the encouragement I can get! )
And hot water bottles filled and bed!9 -
Pleasures for today (Monday)
1) An 11 hour sleep.
2) MrU is recovering well though has tiny injuries everywhere (knee, one toe, all over his head etc).
3) Did little during the morning apart from laundry and tidying.
4) MrU went to college in the afternoon and I went to the Post Office then had a cup of tea in M and S.
5) Back to college to pick MrU up in torrential rain so gave 2 of his friends a lift home. We went in and had tea and I played chess and won! It had taken me 1.5 years and probably 15 efforts to beat D.

For yesterday,
Waking up and the apple tree was still standing, as was fencing, the hedge and no roof tiles in the garden!
Breezy but bright day so I got my warmest yard coat washed and blowing on the line.
Finished reading Enchanted April, apparently there was a film made a few years back so will have to dig that out, next is the Moonstone by WC. Many years since I read it but heard Elly Griffiths talking about it recently on R4 and it made me want to re-read.
A buzzard sitting on a gate post, beautiful bird.
A use it up kind of tea with pork from the freezer and other items pulled from fridge & cupboard.

Pleasures for today (Tuesday)
1) Another decent sleep but had an horrendous nightmare where I was trying to shout to MrU for help. Woke up and was shouting in real life!
2) Toast, biscuit spread and banana for breakfast.
3) Went to B and Q for kitchen paint.
4) Lidl then Aldi for other shopping.
5) Saw our neighbour to went to explain why smaller son hammered on their door at 4am on Sunday morning. They had slept through it and their security camera isn't working so they had no idea.
6) Lady neighbour then came round to our house for a chat and to swap phone numbers!
7) MrU back in the kitchen and made chicken drumsticks and bulgur wheat for dinner.
8) Just listening to the commentary for our football team.6 -
Evening all
Pleasures for yesterday
1. DS got through his last chance big test; we are just awaiting the final interview result
2. thank goodness for lemsip - helping me to function through my cold
3. a walk to the post office and back in sunshine
4. dippy egg and sourdough toast for lunch
5. my bed with clean sheets
Have a great evening.I wanna be in the room where it happens7 -
Hello. Bedtime and storm Jocelyn blowing outside. Wild!Anyway up early.Pup dropped off at 8.30am
I made tablet ( Scottish sweet) but just a half batch.
Much work this morning. But script written and just waiting for a wee bit more additional information then it gets sent to the family for approval/amendment
Waited for pup to get collected by dog walker but he was delayed ( and he did keep me updated) he left and I went to supermarket. Met two people I know so had chats with them which was nice.Home and hello to my doggy. Phoned sister. Pup returned absolutely soaked!
Then it was time to cook Tuesday Tea which had a Burns theme as it’s almost Burns Day ( Thursday )
Haggis, neeps and tatties. Neeps were from a very RTC bag out the freezer. Also had potato skins and RTC Haggis bonbons. I would not thank you for Haggis but found a RTC ready meal of Stovies for 80p and it was actually delicious! Piped mashed potatoes onto Yorkshire puddings! For pudding I made with 9 mini hot cross buns which were tesco finest but RTC 80p. Cut them in half. Poured over eggs, milk and cream and baked. And oh my goodness it was absolutely delicious! Tablet was inhaled ( as in gone very quickly) and there was chocolate cake for the non hot cross bun eaters! So a very delicious dinner for six. Made as cheaply as I could.Much laughter. Much chatter. Grateful for a dishwasher! I love everyone arriving but love the peace when everyone leaves. And always grateful that they want to come and spend the evening here.8 -
Evening all.
A quick dip in, just heading off to bed but the latest storm is swirling around out there and hubby has just been out to rescue some garden furniture so I've gone from all warm and sleepy to wide awake again.
Anyway, some pleasures:
1) Thanks to recommendations from you lovely lot we went to see One Life at the cinema this afternoon. Oh my, a wonderful (true) story and sublime acting.
2) Have decided, in the great car shake-up, to get rid of my car. I just don't use it any more and it's a big expense just to keep it for emergencies. I've never not had my own wheels though so it feels a little bit daunting but long story short my brother and SIL are buying it off me either for SIL to replace hers or to go to the farm. So very quickly sorted!
3) Son's partner is applying for a job more locally now she has moved in, hope she gets it as it would suit her down to the ground, fingers crossed.
4) Some lovely news from the family friend who used to be my mum and dad's carer. She sloped off to Gretna Green last week with her long-term partner and they got married. Wow! Meeting up in a couple of weeks to hear all the details. Doggy went too and is on the photos with the happy couple!
5) Plans being made for the next round of get-togethers and holidays with brothers and sister and partners. It's shaping up to being another lively year - great, need to do it all while we are able.
Calmed down a bit now so my bed and latest book await. Hope it's not too stormy where you are. Stay safe.7 -
Your Tuesday teas always sound so delicious Mhags.
For yesterday,
Feeling a bit blah so few jobs done then curled up on the sofa and found an old film to watch, Angela Lansbury as Miss Marple, with Rock Hudson, Tony Curtis and Elizabeth Taylor too!Following last week’s decision an email was sent and I instantly felt a weight off my shoulders so was obviously the right one.
Fetched my horse in from the field, the mud is back so grateful for the hot wash.
Sat in with her and stitched a small tear in one of her rugs, experience has shown me that they can quickly escalate.
Home and small dog barked to let me know that, according to her calculations, her tea was 25 minutes late. In her cute, spaniel way she rules the house!8
