1. went to yoga - am currently going when i can until i give up teaching. Then i intend to go once a week.
2. did my 'fridge fairy' bit and stocked up. DS said "she's been!" 🤣
3. a walk to the cinema with OH
4. To see 'One Life' - was fabulous
5. DS saved someone's life at work - stopped them from jumping in front of a train 👏😱
Have a great evening all.
I wanna be in the room where it happens7 -
VJsmum - well done to your son.
Pleasures for today (Saturday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) MrU poorly (ear infection?) but has improved slightly as the day went on.
3) Went to see our friend to set up a direct debit on his bank account. Had a cup of tea there.
4) Quick trip to Aldi.
5) Smaller son and I went to the football. We have a new manager, after languishing at the bottom of the league. Today, they won 4-2 !!
6) Have done nothing this evening except sit on the floor in front of the radiator eating quinces and a Cornetto.7 -
Good morning from wet and windy land! I was out with dog at 5.30am went so far and turned back home…just got in and whoosh a downpour! So I’m glad I turned back when I did or we would have been absolutely soaked!Anyway Saturday morning we were up early and had a nice walk. Then I dozed off again and slept through skinny club time! Was slightly mortified that I’d slept in! Anyway stood on my own scales and can see I’ve lost a wee bit.DD2 dropped pup in and we went to view a house. She’s officially house hunting! Lordy! At the state of this one. And boo to the blooming photographers who make them look nice when in reality they’re awful! And our appointment was first then the next people came early ‘ oh do you mind if they come in too’ and then the next set of people came in before we’d finished and they were even earlier. So three sets of people in by now so we just said thank you and escaped! And we went down to the garden centre and I had a baked potato with chilli that was ever so nice. With a cup of soup. Topped up on bird food then we came home. After they left I put the log burner on and filled a couple of hot water bottles as I did not have the heating on at all yesterday. Try and recoup some costs when it wasn’t below zero! Finished library book then started another. And that was me for the rest of the day!Topped up water bottles and went to bed!7

For yesterday,
Bit of a lie-in followed by coffee & croissant. A parcel with SH books arrived in post, happy as the next woman to browse the CS but sometimes I want to read a specific title and am not patient enough to wait ☺️
Massive tidy up of paperwork, lots shredded and rest sorted & appropriately filed. As I near my 60th turn around the sun there are a couple of small pensions that will be cashed in so all that sorted and necessary documentation sent off, good to get it done.
Made a loaf and dug out some sausage rolls from the freezer to have warm for lunch.
To the stables, sorted my girlie out and spent some time with her. If it wasn’t for her I would probably hunker down and hibernate all winter!Caught up on Julia, just love the clothes and feel of the time plus Sarah Lancashire is fantastic in it.7 -
Happy Sunday everyone.
Still very steady away here compared to what some of you are up to. No snow here and we still have glorious blue skies and sunshine so very lucky.
VJsmum - hope your son is ok, good for him but must have been a shock to his system.
Some pleasures:
1) My 'urgent' dermatology appointment came through and naturally my face is completely better at the moment. Showed my gruesome photos however and got an immediate diagnosis and some ointment to use until I have more tests done mid-April. Good to speak to someone who understood.
2) New car is finally chosen and ordered, haven't enjoyed the process - too much choice, too many decisions. The pleasure is it's done and one day it won't be 'new' it will be 'normal' which suits me much better.
3) Lots of lovely potato recipes being cooked and stored in the new freezer, making inroads into the freebie sacks of potatoes and onions but spending a fortune on cream and cheeses!
4) Son and partner came in yesterday afternoon for a chat, lovely that they can just drop in, and plans made for a girlis afternoon watching some more of The Crown this afternoon while the menfolk get on with a bit more insulating and work in the new kitchen. Brought me some lovely roses, look beautiful in one of my mum's vases.
5) Thanks to recommendations on here we are planning a trip to the cinema tomorrow afternoon. All the December and New Year festivities got in the way of our Monday fundays so we will reinstate them again starting tomorrow, will suggest to hubby we have lunch out beforehand and then very easy Monday tea. Perfect!
A lazy day in store for me today, still trying to rest up my sore leg. Hope you have a good day whatever you are up to.6 -
goodness vjsmum well done DS
Isn't that always the way highdays - good you took photographs
Well last day in Sri Lanka. Very very warm!
1) our final breakfast - freshly cooked hopper with coconut milk is delicious!
2) then our lovely tuktuk driver took us to the National Museum - I much prefer museums to shopping
2.5) we had coconut water from a young coconut - they cut the top with a very scary knife and stick a straw in then when you've drunk the water they slice the other end to be a scoop, slice the coconut in two and hand it back to scoop out the flesh - delicious!
3) then the zoological gardens - I fed a giraffe - I have never been so close to a giraffe, they (didn't notice the gender) were very beautiful and I could feel their breath on my hand
4) then a lovely long ride along by the beach before a very late light lunch by the hotel
5) then a much needed lie down, packing, workout and a shower.
We don't know how Isla will impact our travels but I hope to be next posting from Blighty. We should get back 3ish Monday afternoon (it's now 8pm Sri Lankan time)

Pleasures for yesterday
1. More marking - most of it dreadful. THe only pleasure is getting through it
2. watched The Traitors from Friday
3. watched the end of The Tourist
4. Ordered a new staircase. It is £££££ and we could probably do it cheaper but the quality looks amazing and we figure we'll only do it once, so we might as well pay for what we want
5. Lasagne for tea.
Stay safe in the wind all.I wanna be in the room where it happens7 -
Hello! DD going by the wind at the moment you’re maybe home already!! It’s crazy out there! All trains in Scotland have been cancelled from 7pm tonight and this continues till the morning! It’s just absolutely wild!Well doggy and I had a nice walk first thing ( encountered the odd chap with the odd dog but I’m sure he just thinks oh no it’s the odd woman with the odd dog) but ever so glad we turned home when we did as within a few minutes of getting in it was absolutely lashing with rain.Usual back to bed and a wee snooze! But not before I’d put a RYC gammon joint in the slow cooker. Then up and at ‘em.DD2 and The Chap came over for lunch. We had roast potatoes, roast parsnips ( RTC ) Yorkies, cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, sprouts, peas. I made me a wee drop of cheese sauce. It was all very delicious. And nice to make a Sunday dinner. The smell reminds me of my childhood when everything’s cooking , we always had a Sunday dinner. And because I worked Sundays for so long it’s still a joy to have Sundays off. And The Chap isn’t working Sundays for next few weeks so it’s nice they can come over ( I’m under no illusion they’re here for the free feed😆😆) and the joy of having a working dishwasher that it all goes in and I shut the door! I wash up by hand the rest of the week!Sat with little electric fire on in the lounge. With the door shut it warmed up quickly ( everywhere else is open plan) Sat and read for a while. Had candles on and fairy lights and all very cosy.
Unlike outside! one of my garden mirrors that came from mums had tipped over so I’ve just been out and moved it as I don’t want it to be shattered like the last two were! And I’ve came up to bed with my hot water bottles filled and just waiting for Call The Midwife…another week nearer to lighter nights.8 -
Good evening. Wild and woolly out there but snug in here. Telly has gone wappy again. It really doesn't like wind!
Went to the wildlife park on Friday to get one more visit in before our annual membership expires ( though we will renew anyway). It was a beautiful frosty day. All the ponds and little streams were frozen and there was frosting on every blade of grass./bullrush/ twig. Just beautiful. A surprising number of animals had braved the cold inc the giraffes, D Doll. They're my favourites. So graceful.. There's a high-up walkway by their compound so you can be on a face to face level. But how magical to feed one!
Met DD and fiance for breakfast. They're such good company. A lovely start to the weekend.
Have returned the dresses I ordered as Mother of the Bride. 5 years ago I struggled to find my Mother of the Groom dress and I fear the MoB is going the same way! I don't want lace, brocade, fancy! But I don't want to let the side down either. Ah well. Something will turn up!
Keep safe in the wind everyone, and hope your flight isn't too bumpy, D Doll

Pleasures for today (Sunday)
Well, not a pleasure at all was MrU having a bit of a cold, getting up at 4am to use the toilet then falling and having two enormous seizures on the landing. But...
1) The calm help of smaller son, phoning 999, going down to open the door for the ambulance, trying to wake the neighbours then waving to the paramedics.
2) The 3 paramedics who arrived before the second seizure had finished (they were almost parked round the corner!)
3) Having to laugh when I tried to pack a bag quickly but took smaller son's phone instead of MrU's (I did realise before we left) AND taking lots of change for parking then realising hours later that I wouldn't need it because we went in by ambulance...
4) We had to wait on the ambulance for 4 hours so we had a shift change half way through. We enjoyed having cups of coffee brought out to us every hour or so. One chap was particularly good and found a foreign language TV station for MrU on his ipod.
5) I can't say I enjoyed the 8 hours waiting in a corridor (he never did make it to a cubicle) but everyone did the necessary tasks including a CT scan which was clear. A consultant appointment and a MRI scan await.
6) Bigger son and his girlfriend picked us up.
7) Chips for tea!
8) Had a game of chess.7
