5 OS pleasures in your day today - part 3

Morning all.
Late-ish start to our Sunday, what a treat - especially as the delivery man dropped our parcel inside the gate and behind the hedge at 8am rather than ringing the doorbell!
Some pleasures:
1) A lovely bright and sunny morning with fluffy white clouds in a blue, blue sky. My cheap bunch of daffs are glowing in the sunlight, very spring-like feel to the day. Love how the days are lengthening out now.
2) Started the new car discussions and looking. Totally not a pleasure, I don't like new things, much prefer when they are bedded in and part of normal life, normal life being my biggest pleasure of all! At least we are on with it and one day it will be sorted.
3) An afternoon out with middle grandson. Hadn't seen much of him recently so needed a catch up and a good chat. He no longer needs to wear the cast on his arm day and night, just at night with exercises to do during the day to build strength and muscle. The difference in his arm is just amazing, so thrilled for him. Lovely 1:1 time with one of my most favourite people and even better that a young man of 16 who now towers over his grandma still wants to spend time with her.
4) Still eating stuff up out of the freezers, delicious lentil and nut roast for tea and hazelnut and caramel meringue for pud. Scrummy!
5) A lazy day at home to look forward to. Jobs can wait until tomorrow, I have books to read and knitting projects that definitely need attention, will start off with some coffee and the papers online.
Hope you all enjoy your day, whatever you are up to.8 -
realise i've not checked in since Tuesday so only just read of poor old kit of kit kat PK so sorry - colleague's cat got fatally hit by a car this week and, not having been a pet person before his late-in-life marriage, has been surprised by just how badly he's been hit. they are important members of the family. so i have just caught up on your updates as i lie on my kingsize bed in Colombo, EFL on the tv, cup of tea at my right oh hang on it's evaporated, will correct that!) and half-time break. so quick 5
1) relatively stress-free journey, managed somehow to get extra leg room both flights, made our not over generous on time connection (we were 40 mins late into Doha so got rushed through security then ran all the way to the gate)
2) love it when there's a friendly local taxi driver holding a card and we got to the hotel early. indeed nearly 2 hours before our room would be busy. and they couldn't even make me a cuppa (was 3 in the morning). but 2 sofas in reception so shamelessly lay on one, put my wrap over my face and slept
3) still very happy to get to my room. by then it was nearly breakfast time (opens at 6am) so we decided on a shower then have breakfast then sleep
4) 3pm we headed off to explore. we had a lovely tuk tuk driver a Christian Sri Lankan called Nicholas on an hourly rate - really lovely 3 hours including 2 temples, St Augustine's Shrine (service on so not able to go round all but very nice to visit), the red mosque (stunning red and white building as that's the colours of a pomegranate when sliced open, lovely chat with some of the women while my colleague (male muslim malaysian, very alliterative) went to prayers. Also visited the maritime museum and the lighthouse, and generally round areas of interest. we may be using the services of Nicholas again!
5) then fabulous buffet dinner. we hadn't booked and they had a huge birthday party so we had to wait an hour but we had a very nice sit in reception (same sofa, i stayed upright this time) and the time passed very quickly. Everton Aston Villa was on. Obviously with Everton close to the drop zone i'd have been happier with the Villa goal not being overturned. Right, 2nd half calls then bed then we're going to attempt to be at breakfast at 8.MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Up early.
Got up and put my painty clothes on.
Tidied the cupboard under the stairs. There was a wee chest of drawers I wanted out. Filled two bags for charity shop and they are in the car! I had scarves/ gloves/ hats etc for a family of five. So now there’s enough for a woman living on her own! And a couple of old cameras that were my grandads and came from mums. They’re not particularly valuable but maybe someone like me will walk in to a charity shop and go wow!RTC a gammon joint in the slow cooker. Veggies all RTC or cheapy from NY. I made the most perfect Yorkshire puddings! The last ones I made were a flop! DD2 & The Chap came for lunch. Made an apple and blackberry ( from their garden and out the freezer) crumble. Made DD2 pancakes from the last drop of batter. Was all very delicious!Walked up to see friend to drop something off…more stuff out my house. Was out for about 45 minutes. Couldn’t believe it was still light when I was walking home at 4.45pm with a wee flurry of snow.
Painted the chest of drawers with some leftover paint I’d found under the kitchen sink the other week and used six of my new to me ceramic drawer k-nobs . They are all different. Looks absolutely fine and given it a new lease of life!Looking forward to watching Call the midwife…it means it’s another week nearer to lighter nights!8 -
For yesterday,
Bacon butties and catching up on all things Ambridge.
Lots of messages to and from family, have a big birthday next month and am planning a celebratory meal.
The return of Just a Minute!
Roast Pork for lunch with all the trimmings, inc the last of the festive red cabbage.
Late afternoon walk with small dog, cold so wrapped up but nice to be moving and made the hot chocolate we had when home all the better.7 -
Art'noon all.
Pleasures since saturday
1. A meal out at a favourite restaurant as my final 'I'M 60!' thing. I paid and was pleased that it was significantly less than it might have been. (although whereas last year was my 60th year, this year is my year of 60 so i may wring a bit more out of it yet!).
2. A nice relaxing morning yesterday and a bit of a lie in.
3. followed by lunch at SiL's cooked by nephew. Impressive
4. More holiday planning with friends
5. A trip back, with a detour to pick up DS who'd been to the footie. He was really grateful.
Have a great rest of day all.I wanna be in the room where it happens7 -

You do visit some amazing places DD ( and I know it’s work but what amazing opportunities)
Hello from the land of chilly! ( long gone are the days when I’d moan about the heat at this time of year…but I do not miss the heat!)
Anyway doggy and I were at the beach for sunrise and low tide this morning. Had an amazing walk.Returned a dress I’d bought in charity shop in beach town…had very long sleeves and fancy cuffs that would just have annoyed me! Then stopped at other charity shop when back in my town. Dropped off the two bags of stuff from my car Returned an item and bought three more…hmmm how does that work! Refund of £3.25 but bought a red cardigan ( wanted pink) for £3.45 so only had 20p difference then saw theses two large deep white china platters at £1.75 each. No idea why they were so cheap! Anyway refunded £3.20 and then spent £3.70!Home via supermarket ( by this time the dogs like oh for goodness sake can we just go home please!) got two very RTC gammon joints that are now in the freezer.Had a snoozette. It’s been a while since an afternoon nap!Took newly painted drawers up to my office room and filled them with printer paper and ink. And the k-nobs tie in with my decor in that room! Then took my library books to go to mobile library only it wasn’t there! So popped into friend who lives across from where it should have been to say is this not library day and had a chat with her for 20 minutes then the library came! He was delayed at previous stop. And renewed some books and borrowed another few…I need to start reading again. Been watching more than reading.
Home and cuddled my doggy then pup was dropped off for a wee while here as DD2 and I were out at an appointment. Both dogs happy to see us return! And I’m just going to fill hot water bottles and head to bed! Tis ever so chilly.8 -
For yesterday,
Blue skies which was lovely, not so the very low temperatures, bbbbrrr.
Trip to the emporium, some good rtc bargains including some beetroot & mint hummus which is very yummy and half went on a flatbread for my lunch.
Walking out to my horse’s field, her seeing me, calling out and then cantering over to see her Mum, priceless.
Lovely farrier did her feet, we huddled around his van as the mini forge was going and kicking out heat.
Cosy evening, under the blankets on the sofas, watching the quizzes.

Morning all.
Very tame pleasures here compared to some that others are enjoying - and I'm enjoying reading about - but I'm happy to be steady away in these post-festivities days.
1) Everyone I care about in 'real life' is pretty much ok at this moment in time and I am very, very thankful. No dramas and steady away is a big pleasure.
2) Going for a meal and overnight stay at my brother's and SIL's tonight. We will be well fed and looked after and it will be good to have a catch up eventhough we had a few days with them recently at my other brother's birthday celebrations.
3) Walked with my bairn but I seem to have pulled a muscle in my calf which is a bit sore so took it slowly and only on the flat but had a good hour's natter all the same.
4) Nature abhors a vacuum and it seems I feel a bit that way about the cavernous interior of the new freezer. Logic tells me it will fill soon enough but have been helping it along the way with big cooking sessions. Hubby has manfully peeled and chopped and cleared up as I have channelled my inner Julia Child. Anyway, we are now prepared for ... whatever...
5) The cheap bunch of daffs have all opened out and are literally glowing in the sunlight, very springlike.
Off to start packing (in a very minor way). Hope you all have a good day.

3. jacket spud, cheese and beans for tea - easy and satisfying
4. watched Call the Midwife
5. watched The Traitors from Friday
enjoy your afternoonsI wanna be in the room where it happens8
