Pleasures for today (Friday)
1) A lie in after a horrible night of itching and scratching.
2) House reasonably tidy with only the bathroom to do.
3) Saw a fox on the back lawn.
4) Went to Floody City, which was indeed floody. Had to go the scenic route to walk to the main bridge.
5) Had pizza and chips from the takeaway near us.6 -
Last day of official annual leave but stayed indoors as still coughing for Scotland boo. I have though got quite a way through the phd that has been hanging over me since NYD. So pleasures are
1) dcctor friend old me steam inhalation good so spent an hour luxuriating in a bubbly bath reading the latest Richard Ormonde
2) 12th night so got the decs down - front room looks very bare but wreaths will stay on door till Candlemas
3) mum went to town and found a very yummy ys salmon in chilli sauce for supper
4) then we watched 2 episodes of Father Brown and finished the mulled wine
5) and now I'm watching TOTP on BBC4 - Queen, Stranglers, Bowie, Boomtown Rats and Elvis Costello - I have them all on vinyl. Now it's Mull of Kintyre - remember buying it for mum for Christmas - a nice way to wind down before bed.
Update - well it would have been had there not been another episode starting with Blondie and showing that Ian Dury's on later 🤣 'all I want is a photo in my wallet'MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

For yesterday,
Did a food shop and picked up a few bits for lunch, see below. Horsey town very quiet and there was some minor flooding in the underpass, on the way back I followed a string of racehorses heading for the gallops and one had to be led through the water.
Headed through fenland to visit DSIL, so much water lying around and a large flock of Whooper swans were making the most of a temporary lake, we have a large wetland area nearby.
Met up with lovely SIL, walked round to see her Mum and then along by the river which was very high. Dropped in to see niece and then back to DSIL’s for lunch, we had flatbreads with chicken and hummus followed by flapjack. Good natter and catch up on all news.
Drove home and nice to not be worrying about warning light on car!
FA Cup weekend so we watched the footie, United play tomorrow and it will be a tough one.

Hello. I’ve came up to bed early. Not to sleep but just to be cosy.Up and out early this morning. We had a nice walk. Very heavy frost and crunchy underfoot without being slippy. Think tomorrow morning might be slippy! Just us and the robins.
Skinny club this morning ( which was mega busy ) but lost 2lb so that was alright!Had a lovely walk round the big park. Sun had just came up and was peeking through the trees.Whilst waiting for car to defrost for the second time I looked at my phone so friend had texted to see if I was free to chat so called her and said are you free for a visit I’ll be there in five minutes once my car windscreen clears!Australian friend sending me photos from the beach and I sent ones of a heavy frost!Supermarket on way home from friends ( windscreen frozen again). Had cash with me. Tallied it up as I went round and just had enough. Trying to spend cash this month rather than just tapping my phone! For RTC veggies and some tins for meals this week.Home and hello doggy! Let’s go out very quickly then let’s get that fire on! And that’s where we were for most of the afternoon…on the sofa! Watching the birds in the garden.Such a beautiful day. The bluest of skies.Had the remaining mince from last night with mashed potatoes, parsnips done in the airfryer, broccoli, red cabbage, mange tout, carrots. Veg all RTC.It wasn’t dark until 4.40pm. Yay!Daffodils flowering in the vase.Cleaning my washing machine drawer. Yuk! Put it on a hot wash with some vinegar.Tidied airing cupboard…took me all of 2 minutes as it wasn’t particularly untidy😆…just me that lives here!Sorted my flowers. Trimmed down pink roses DD2 got me last week and a bunch of greenery I got about 3 weeks ago for 50p. Added 3 purple carnations.Swept up outside front porch again and washed doorstep. Doggie paws make it messy! That all sounds like a very productive day!7 -
Evening all 😊
nice couple of days: took all the decorations down on Thursday but left my new twinkly lantern and still have my twig lights, wax melt burner, tea lights and candles so still some cheer.
we went to the theatre on Thursday evening on an organised coach trip to see the Unfriend with Lee Mack, quite amusing but boy were we uncomfortable! We are both nearly 6 foot and with dodgy knees, had to ask for an aisle seat at half time for OH as he was in agony as we had no leg room. There was one available so he moved and I sat sideways across the 2 seats! My sister came as well and we dashed from the coach to a steakhouse before the show in the pouring rain. On the way home, the dual carriage near to home was flooded across both sides and created a wave as we drove slowly through.
Met old friend at local pub for late lunch yesterday as she had 20% off and OH joined us after work for an early dinner and to give us a lift home.
Plumber/gas engineer came early this morning and we now have all the radiators working, just in time for the next cold snap.
Lazy afternoon and easy dinner and watched 3 episodes of Mr Bates about the Post Office scandal, unbelievable!
night all 💤4 -
Goodness I'm fed up with this cold - I think it's going then it comes back with a vengeance! Hope you're doing well ampers
1) up before sunrise as hair appointment at 8:15 - very peaceful walk in and always lovely to see my hairdresser
2) then town as needed to go to building society. Called in at Oxfam bookshop and, having enjoyed Lawrence of Arabia so much, very pleased to find a biography of TEL. Joined DrM for a coffee, him reading his Guardian, me reading my book till MrH arrived then we did speak to each other 🤣
3) made corn chowder for lunch using lo cream
4) then lovely walk with the dogs up Balgay - watched the sun set - how lucky am I to live in such a beautiful place!
5) then home to piano, supper and watched The Titfield Thunderbolt - I love Ealing comedies, ones with steam trains added bonus 😍

Some pleasures over last few weeks.
1.Lovely Christmas Celebrations with my family, meal cooked by SIL. Saw all the grandsons - played games.
2. Fabulous Birthday party on New Year’s Eve for DM 80th on New Year’s Day. Party games, recreating of photos, buffet then out for lunch on New Years Day with Cake.
3. Good drive home but started with a cough & sore throat.
4. Lost 3 days to dreaded lurgy, pleasure is feeling slightly better but still got the nasty cough am due to collect antibiotics tomorrow as suspected chest infection.
5. Ds2 bone has grown now waiting for it to strengthen before he can weigh bear. Recovery should be less than 10 months to his new normal he has to learn to walk again. Addenbrookes have the best consultants for orthopaedics, we were very lucky.
6. Got shopping delivered as I wasn’t up to
going anywhere.
7. No Christmas lights on - need to take tree down tomorrow as until late today was just too tired.4 -
Good morning. Not raining!
All these poorly people! Ampersand, D Doll, Topsy - I hope you all feel better soon. I think I'm going to start wearing a mask to read this page!
More or less back in the old routune. I've made two big batches of soup to use up left over veg. I've never made much soup before but I like how it's virtually a free meal. A pinch of chilli flakes seems to be a good thing too
We're going to watch DGS play football this morning so am very glad it's not raining. Neither of us has the interested-in-sport gene, but it is DGS! And DDiL and DGD are tea ladies today so we'll get a hot drink too. ( auto correct thought I meant 'a bit drunk' 😂 not at that time in a morning!)
Happy Sunday everyone

Stunning photo DD.
For yesterday,
Bit of a lie-in followed by coffee & croissants.
Busy morning in the kitchen, made a loaf and while it was proving baked some sultana scones, Capt S wandered through just as they come out of the oven as he likes to snaffle the little, funny shaped, use up mixture one when still warm from the stove ☺️Also cut up a butternut squash and roasted that, some for a BS & Goats cheese Wellington today and will whizz up the rest in a soup.
Very much colder and wrapped up well for the stables, hot-washed girlie’s legs down and snuggled her down in stable, then sat & had a natter & a coffee in the kitchen with my pal. We love our yard!
Listened to the footie on the way home, after leading at half time we crashed out of the cup but still managed to score 2 goals despite not having a striker on the pitch.
Baked spud for tea then binge-watched Mr Bates V the Post Office, heard bits & pieces about the story over the years but wow, just wow…6
