Hello Happy Hogmanay! For Saturday.Quick walk in the heavy frost,
Then had to scrape the car to go out early. VJsmum I go to slimming world. And find it works for me when I have the right head space for it all! There’s loads you can still eat. Just not packets of biscuits at a time😆…I stopped at supermarket to buy a paper as they had a free joining coupon in it! I never buy a paper as I read online and was a big oooft at the price but it was cheaper than joining! Passed the paper on to one of the ladies there who was delighted to get it!I had such a lovely welcome back. So that was very nice.
Popped back in to supermarket to get some fruit and cheap veg!Home and lit the logburner and basically sat in front of that all day!Pup came in for an hour and a half.
Hag had a bit of a funny turn that was quite concerning but he’s been okay today. I was calling him and pup to go out for a wee and he didn’t come and when I went to see where he was it was as if he couldn’t move forwards. He kind of ‘snapped ‘ out of it but hmmmm.Anyway today he’s been okay. We went to beach first thing and he was running like a running thing! Chasing his new ball. Tide was out but it was blooming cold. With icy nippy rain! But nice to be there and nice to see him okay.We then came home and again had a very quiet day. I’m just watching Ted Lasso.Had a tuna salad for tea.I’ve hoovered and will go and wash floors before I go up to bed.Hogmanay was always a time my husband and I spent together so I find it a bit hard now still. So I’ll go to bed then probably be woken up by blooming fireworks going off at midnight ( and beyond) but I have this inbuilt thing of having a tidy house at NYE from when I was young and my mother would frantically be cleaning the house so it was clean to welcome a new year…hence I ne3d to wash my floors before I go to bed😆
I’m grateful for another year of kindness and support shown here . And so glad I have this space to write things down most days in a kind of diary fashion. But to be able to record what makes us happy ( and what makes us sad and frustrated) and to be given the opportunity to appreciate the simpler things in life and the nature that surrounds us.May 2024 be a good one 💕

For yesterday,
Quiet morning at home, listened to the Archers omnibus and made a meal plan for next week.
Out for lunch, not quite what was anticipated as the venue seems to have upped its prices but lowered its standards, doubt if we will back anytime soon, oh well you live & learn.
Afternoon walk, small dog loved being off the lead and did lots of her funny Spaniel snuffling.
In our PJ’s by 8 ☺️ cheese and wine.
Last hour of 2023 was spent listening to a ghost story on the radio, The Signalman and starring my favourite, Samuel West. We were in bed by midnight, reading our books and listening to all the fireworks going up from the village.
Happy New Year to all that post and follow this lovely thread, no doubt 2024 will bring its usual ups and downs but I intend to keep on finding joy in all the little, every day pleasures.8 -
Hello. Blimey, we were on page two!
Had a lovely NYE. Our for lunch with DS and family. I had a carvery meal. Don't know when I last chose that in a restaurant but I really enjoyed it, especially the cauliflower cheese.
Then an afternoon of lazing about until our friend came round for drinks and chatter. I drank altogether too much Prosecco, had the best sleep I've had in ages and woke without a trace of a hangover. Perhaps my new resolution should be to drink more Prosecco!
I read in another thread an Old Wives' tale that you shouldn't do any washing, sweeping, dusting etc on New Year's day. If you do you risk washing etc a loved one away in the year. I think it sounds like a cunning Old Wives' ploy to have a day off, but I'm not risking washing or sweeping any loved ones away, so a day of leisure it is
I did make a big pot of spicy sweet potato soup which is delicious but then returned to lazing about.
I shall leap into action tomorrow - maybe.
Happy New Year everyone

Greetings all for 2024, hoping that 8 January means &'s connectivity problems will be over.
Frith, just saw your mention of scabies, having seen this in Graun earlier:

1. Came out for air, but it's pouring. Supposed to be in hospital with lurgy+ since Wednesday, but batted that away with promise to Do As Told. Day 6 of horse pills now helping. Day 9 in bed.
2. Reading, reading, reading - discovered Richard Osman's Thursday Murder Club books, clever and fun. Currently, new2& Amor Towles' 'A Gentleman in Moscow'. Will certainly look for others.
3. Listening, listening, listening - all sorts. DG for auntie beeb. Lengthy Nigel Kennedy talk - great stuff, fantastic. Rugby.
4. Nothing unwrapped yet, saving until up and about again, with breathing and balance ok.
5. Fizz to open, bedtime treat. Worse ways to swill down meds.😁🍾

Happy New Year.
& I hope you are feeling a lot better soon, well done on following docs advice.
DD amazing to find a vet, glad they could put your mind at rest.
I do have a couple of resolutions, one of which is to “de paunch” by a few stone for good.
1 Cooked up a roast per dh’s traditions but have had enough of food for now and enough leftovers for the week.
2 Saw in the new year and tried to calm a couple of animals scared of the fireworks, they haven’t been around here before this year.
3 Watched a couple of lovely films, I’ve never seen close encounters of the third kind, and also got to see Spirited Away, lovely to see animation without being a musical for once.
4 I feel quite pleased that we didn’t go out chasing reduced to clear things, as we also buy other things, and I want to use up what we have. But I was tempted.
5 Meal planned for the week.

Sorry to hear that you’ve had the lurgy Ampersand keep resting up and hope you are back on top form soon xFor yesterday,
Awake early so spent a bit of time reading the first chapter in my yearly Almanac, gentle start to the day.
Lots of sunshine so time spent in the garden, have several broccoli plants with heads on them and the kale is still going strong but that’s about it for fresh produce.
Sat with Capt S to do the yearly budget and started looking at holiday cottages, found a good one in the Peak District which we love.
Over to see the beautiful grey one, she was already in so groomed her then changed rugs. Gave her first lot of medication, she didn’t spit it out ( we have form for doing that with wormer ) but pulled a funny face and I suspect that she will be ready to get rid of it today so will pick up some apple juice to mix in with it in the syringe.
The treat of steak for tea, still eating from our beef box purchased last year and will definitely get one again as everything has been so tasty.

Hello and Happy 2024…think I fell asleep early last night!Think I’ve gone into hibernation mode!Went to bed way before midnight on Sunday…woke briefly to the sound of fireworks but surprisingly I fell straight back asleep…normally I lie there and inwardly growl!Went to the beach first thing. We followed the moon down and just as we got there there was the most amazing view. The sunrise which was behind me in the hills was reflected on the island. It was truly amazing. The day before you couldn’t even see the island and here it was all pinks and oranges.
The sky was reflected in the puddly bits on the sand and it was just such a wonderful way to start the year. Really felt like it was saying tadah!Home and that was about it! Continued watching Ted Lasso. Have finished it this morning and I thought it was just so funny!Made a chicken curry for tea last night and today used the rest of that chicken ( which was RTC and divied up) the last slice of bacon, the last of the open pack of ham, a RTC courgette, the last of the RTC mushrooms and some little soft cheese doodahs that I’d got for Christmas Day that were about the size of a thumbnail and had peppers or garlic on them. So that all kind of melted down and had that with tagliatelle. Determined to use up what’s in the fridge and freezer.I’ve enjoyed watching the birds in the garden.I’ve done three random tasks in the garden. It’s been dry in a damp kind of way.Friend came over for an hour this morning. Caught up on her news. Was still in my jammies!Had a shower put on fleece lined leggings and an oodie and switched the heating off.And just enjoyed snuggles with my doggy who has been okay.7
