Pleasures for today (Tuesday)
1) Not a bad sleep. Did get up for an hour to scratch and watched Casualty. Another dose of anti scabies cream applied and all washing done YET AGAIN. 3 loads today to make sure all the normal washing plus all the bedding and towels are clean.
2) Had some Welsh cakes left so ate those for breakfast with soft boiled eggs and olives (not all at the same time).
3) Went to floody town to look at the floods. By tomorrow, it will be getting close to the highest river level of all time, in November 2000.
4) Popped to Lidl and took the other old mattress to the tip.
5) So many roads were closed on the way home due to flooding that it took us an hour! We did go through some villages that I had never been to before.
6) Cooked an enormous shepherds pie with some left for tomorrow and extra base and potato frozen to construct a new pie at a later date.

1 I’ve booked and paid for 2 days out during the year, always good to look forward to.
2 The jeep was picked up for repairs, which I am grateful for as I didn’t want to tow it. We had a call saying there are bits of metal coming out of the gear box, yup.
3 Belly laughs at Sarah Millican, and also started watching Beyond Paradise.
4 DH has had a steroid jab for a joint problem which is a great start, wait to see now.
5 Some basic cleaning, clean bedding and Christmas cards came down.

3) hang on what's this? the bridge has been fixed and reopened. hooray.
4) then town with dd2 - lovely lovely afternoon, and a free coffee at costa on my loyalty card

For yesterday,
The rain had already started by the time I headed into horsey town for a food shop, just a drizzle really ahead of the monsoon that was to come.
Horses were being kept in due to the weather so put the shopping away and headed straight back out to see my girl, gave her medication mixed in with apple juice, filled her hay net and made sure she was comfy cosy.
Driving home and roads that were fine an hour before were already flooding, glad to get back. A very welcome mug of Bovril.
Around 4ish the wind got up and was so strong the cottage windows were rattling. Bless Capt S for driving into cathedral city to pick up eldest DSS who was staying the night with us before flying home today.
Did a mini roast, stuffed chicken thighs with SP mash and honey roasted root veg. An evening of chat & laughter.5 -
My New Year’s resolution (post every day ) has already failed !
so first two days
my lovely gardener is decorating my hall which suffered from the wheelchair hoist etc so a lot of sorting will be happening ,determined to cull the books etc
funeral yesterday went well he was a farmer so would have been happy with the rain .
survived the wind and storm with no structural damage ,but trees down roads blocked and flooded all around us .
thankful for painkillers as my hip is so painful ,not feeling v charitable to the junior doctors at all .whatever happened to ‘First do no harm ‘
made a tasty veg soup from leftovers ,will make a curried parsnip with the 15p ones .
hope all survived the weather ,sunny and calm here at the moment5 -
Sue I think sometimes even if you are just thinking of old style pleasures when you’re going through your day even if you don’t post them then that’s good enough.I see things most days like birds in trees, somebody’s washing blowing on a washing line ( a particular cottage I drive by) a row of birds on a telegraph wire the reflection of trees in a puddle ( plenty of puddles!), a keek of yellow from a primrose in the garden. A kestrel on a fence post. And think I must post that then write I walked the dog and had sprouts with my tea!So I think as long as we are keeping our eyes open for nice things that make us inwardly or outwardly smile then that’s enough!
It would be lovely to ‘see’ you here everyday but don’t put extra pressure on yourself!6 -
Good afternoon. And still it rains! At least today it's just normal rain, not lashing it down like yesterday.
S Sue - good to see you. DH appt has been moved from 9Jan to 27 Feb. It is just for a camera check but he can't start the next round of treatment until it's done. Annoying, as you say!
DH out this morning so I'm gradually taking Christmas decorations down. I love the sparkliness and would happily leave them but I know they must go. Several are being put in a bag marked Charity Shop to be taken there in November. I don't think they'd thank me for them this week! I'm gradually culling some of the less special ones.
I have a free birthday treat from Costa. My birthday is in October! I suspect the default on the app is 1 Jan and I haven't altered it. Never mind, I'll take the free cake, thank you.
Chicken biryani for tea. Need warming food in this weather.
Happy rainy day everyone

Hello
Another day in quiet ville. Was out walking at 4.30am . It was so peaceful and mild ( in a big hoody and big jacket kind of way) just us and the robins. And dry. Walked back home and breakfast for doggy then we went back to bed…was watching something and was woken 2 hours later by DD2 calling on her walk to work! Still had my glasses on!Pup dropped off about 8.30am.Chat to sister.Watched the birds in the garden.
Tidied a cupboard upstairs. Sorted through a load of paperwork stuff. Big pile to be shredded/ recycled.Found my positivity journal I’d started this time seven years ago when my husband was very ill. It made me smile and sob. This week we were told his tumour had continued to grow despite chemotherapy and we made the decision to stop any active treatments. We had 8 weeks left.Started watching something on Netflix. Don’t know if I can spare 8 hours of my life!Went to supermarket for stamps and met 2 friends so had 2 lovely chats! Dropped off a book at charity shelf and lady who was perusing said ooh is it any good and I said yes so I think she took it!Did some garden tasks…emptied a couple of pots and emptied my weed bucket that was full to the brim of water! Moved two lanterns that had been blown to the other side of garden.DD2 was here for tea. Had made a salad with chicken sausages.I finished watching Mr Banks V The Post Office which was such a shocking tale that I wasn’t aware of.Had a brief work call this morning and the lady made me laugh out loud!Texted the plumber…hopefully get a response! Been putting off two jobs but really need to get them done. And even though there’s been much rain it’s been dry when I was outside!6 -
Also a wee quick question! What would you eat traditionally on NYD ? I asked my sister who lives in England but she said steak pie ( because she’s Scottish!)6
-
we didn't have a tradition for what to eat on NYD before we came to Scotland @mhagster - it is of course now steak round (or mince round cos DD2 prefers it)
1) day 3 of car-ab-dio workout then off to a funeral - the father of a dear friend who emigrated to NZ - 3 of us went from the Cathedral and it was a lovely service
2) dropped off at the cathedral and who should I spy in the coffee shop but DrM so I joined him for a coffee
3) then paid a cheque in - all the ATMs were down and queue long but lovely lady checking queue said she could help me (others all had to wait) - she admired my earrings and said her friend made dinosaur ones - I now have the friend's etsy
4) raining so decided to get bus back and who should join me at the bus stop but DrM
5) friends' for supper, joined by 3 other friends - very yummy and a good laugh. and now in bedMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025
