Not sure we have any traditions for food on NYD Mhags, this year was steak but that’s because it’s what we fancied.
For yesterday,
Capt S up and out for 5am to drop DSS off at the airport, I lay in bed reading my book with a cup of tea until small dog required facilities at 6.
Finally took down all the decorations and put them away for another year. Have left the Yule log ( wood not chocolate ☺️) in hearth with candles in as will miss all the twinkly lights but it was nice to get everything tidied.
Over to the yard, girlie was in a very naughty frame of mind and took off as I was bringing her in from the field leaving me trailing in her wake, the yard is secure gate wise so she couldn’t get far but very bad of her and she got grumbled at by her Mum!Tasty tea of baked mackerel and sf veg & noodles.
Lit as many candles as possible as I was missing the tree 🌲4 -

Posting early as am lurgified boo so will be having an early night.
1) did feel a bit better when I woke up and got marking done (I know, totally tedious to mark on annual leave but hey ho)
2) then mum and I walked the dogs to where we'd left the car - nice walk which all 4 of us enjoyed
3) playing the piano - one of my absolute mse pleasures of the day
4) moderation of marking with colleague - we chatted and laughed so much I had another coughing fit but was lovely to catch up (NOT all work!!!)
5) mum is doing pasta dish tonight which will use up the rest of the cream cheese, the last of the bacon, the left over cooked cauliflower as well as leeks and pasta - long live left oversMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

I didn't post yesterday but one stand out pleasure was going to see our friend (D) in his new room. He is probably the coolest person I know so was completely unruffled at having been there only 24 hours and we all sat on the floor to eat pizza and drink tea!
Pleasures for today (Thursday)
1) Good to get up after almost no sleep. I must have the permethrin resistant form of scabies...
2) A good morning clearing out the garage. Some stuff to the scrap man (he drove past and took it almost immediately), some in the recycling bin. MrU made a new bed for the cat with a fresh cardboard box.
3) We took my old single bed frame upstairs to the spare room, rebuilt it and put the sheets on ready for our friend staying tomorrow evening.
4) Went to the tip to take my old mattress and other bits and found a chair in the wood recycling skip which is now in my dining room!
5) Went to floody town to look at the floods.
6) Popped to Sainsburys.

Hello. Bedtime. It’s feels like the day has went on forever!Bit of a rubbish sleep so was awake through the night and asleep when I should have been up and woke to wondering whether there was enough cat food to feed the cats ( didn’t think I’d seen them for a while but here they were in my dream looking for food. Chloe and Olivia who both sadly died in 2008. Managed to find a tin! ) so that was a weird start to the day…even weirder than having weird dreams is remembering them in detail!Anyway dealt with the real live pet who needed out and fed then back to bed still tired so I set my alarm.Did a bit of worky stuff ( typing /printing)
Then went to work. I feel humbled and privileged to be doing this job. Met lovely people today.Popped into supermarket on way back. And did not buy RTC smarties but did buy RTC apples…12 apples in fact at 40p for 6 thought want a bargain ( apples are soo expensive I think!) and an RTC bag of salad.Home. And returned a call to friend but had to hang up when plumber chap came. Very nice chap and jobs aren’t as big as I’d anticipated they might be. Nice chat with him about my new job. Phoned friend back. Then I sat and wrote and wrote and wrote! One script written and approved by the family. One achy back so probably need to get a decent chair.DD2 called.Dog cuddles.I washed bedding today but quilt cover not quite dry and I’d also washed my heavy bed throws so they’re nowhere near dry. So just been layering my bed in a pile of blankets gathered from downstairs! Also bought daffodils! My very favourite flower.6 -
Mhags, my mum always adored daffs, we have a lot around in the garden each spring brings her further to the front of my mind.
DH’s family’s tradition is a little roast joint, my family never celebrated it really and no food traditions at all.
We have a not great situation, our very special to us ferret is going to have to under for investigations, we suspect she might be getting fluid around her heart which means no choice and only one outcome if we don’t act, but it’s very high risk for other reasons, we went over today with her to the vets, and go back early tomorrow morning to see what the senior vet reckons. I’m not kidding when I say I will be climbing the walls anxious tomorrow, desperately trying not to be as I know they pick up on it. Still managing to keep positive at the mo. Of course, she’s acting healthy as anything at the moment, making us question everything.
For yesterday
1 Seemed to be a lot of cleaning and tidying and relevant wash loads today, a pleasure its done I think..
2 A pasta bake, melty cheese, with a side of greens was dinner..
3 I cut DH’s hair, I might be getting the hang of it now, just it’s only taken all the covid years, but the trimmer has earnt its keep.
For today
1 A lot of animal cuddles, they really do sense problems.
2 Had to pay some bills, pleasure to be able to balance them.
3 Glad of comforting food tonight, oven chicken, cheesy chips and salad for good measure.
4 Loving the madame blanc mysteries.
5 Being warm inside.

Hello again.
Back from our travels, tired but refreshed if that makes sense!
Recent pleasures:
1) A great few days with my brothers and their wives. Lots of laughter, good food and wine so younger brother's 65th birthday was celebrated in style.
2) A beautiful part of the country (Wiltshire) but, goodness, they've had some rain and there are areas of very bad flooding. Luckily he is on higher ground so safe, hope everyone living down there is safe and dry too.
3) By chance, the garden centre we visited had a final 50% off all Christmas stuff. Got a couple of bits and some half price lights which very artistic and 'crafty' sister-in-law used to create some magical decorations for me for next year- I wouldn't have had a clue!
4) Good journey home and my own bed is, as always, a huge pleasure. Slept like a log last night and struggled to get up as was so warm and comfy this morning.
5) Had to be up and at it though as today was our last day to spend with littlest grandson before he goes back to school. Shopping to see if he could be tempted to spend some of his Christmas money but he didn't, lunch out and then to see 'Wonka' - a lovely film enjoyed by us all.
Will pack away Christmas tomorrow, I think. It was lovely but we are done.
Had a quick skim through all your pleasures, will have a better read and catch up tomorrow, it's good to be back...8 -
Hope all goes well for your little one today PK
For yesterday,
Dropped the mini into the village garage early doors, we have warning lights!
Had bad sinus pain most of the day which was definitely not a pleasure but was able to have a quiet morning at home, pottering and doing a few surveys.
Over to see the beautiful grey one, she was impeccably behaved coming in and stood still to have her legs washed down. If she was in a wild herd situation by nature she would definitely be the dominant mare and sometimes that part of her personality shines through. Over the years I’ve learnt to manage rather than go head to head with her but sometimes a telling off from Mum is needed to re-establish the rules! Anyway, she worked well in the lunge pen, took her medication and then I settled her in for the night.
Picked up my car, bill wasn’t too ouchy but given his age, 14 this year, I will be on the look out for his replacement.
Watched an interesting programme about Howard Carter and his discovery of King Tut’s tomb, would love to visit the new museum in Egypt when it opens.8 -
PK - your post wasn't there when I wrote mine last night so just to say fingers crossed and hope all goes well today x

1-5 There’s something to be said for keeping the faith, we prepared ourselves not that you can last night, tears shed, I even woke up tearful and we both received and gave her lots of cuddles, and genuinely she seemed to improve massively, and more noticeably the fluid and coughing up had gone, early doors the vet pulled her around and is really genuinely amazed with how different she is to yesterday, so there was no point in risking the operation. No words can cover quite how both surprised and relieved we all are, hoping it continues, we aren’t ready for her to move on just yet. She’s wandering around wondering what all the fuss is over, eating and drinking happily.
6 Ditto Highdays, the Christmas decorations are down, cleaned up, boxed up to the loft again.
7 Watching the woodpeckers enjoying the bird food.
8 A new Father Brown episode.
9 I’ve been meaning to sort and clear the tall bathroom cabinet and got on and did it today, let a bag of stuff go, and put some bits together to pass on.
10 I’m going to order in from a local place for the first time in 3 weeks tonight, as we are trying to unwind.

Hello, just waiting on a washing finishing then I’m heading to bed! Thought I’d fling the kitchen floor mats and the dogs fleecy blanket in as the heating will probably pop on overnight as it’s to be cold. I’ve been switching the heating off at night if it’s to be mild but definitely freezing out there just now! It’s been a beautiful day here. Blue sky. Sunshine. But cold.Didn’t wake till 6am which is late for me and only woke as the dog wanted out! He woke me this morning! Obviously thinking wake up…we’re late!Went in to Lidl and was very focused and just bought lactose free milk. Which has went down in price and is still about 80p cheaper than tesco! So bought 3 cartons. And that is all and a very nice chap let me go in front as that’s all I had.Doh! Had to pick up taps so went to the wrong hardware store…gave the guy the number and he’s oh that’s a such and such? Me…nah! Showed him the screenshot on my phone of the taps! Yep wrong store was ever so slightly mortified 😆 and had to say well where’s such and such…across the road! Doh! Anyway taps purchased. And plumber notified. Then we went to the beach. And apart from an incident with 2 dogs coming running up to my grumpy dog even though I’ve already shouted twice he’s not friendly. He’s not aggressive just very loud and barky and certainly didn’t appreciate 2 dogs running at him…anyway we moved on from that and had a lovely walk . Tide was out. There was a kite surfer out so we watched him for a bit. Then time to go back home.As a pup was coming.Phoned sister.Had a lie down for an hour as I’ve been headachey most of the day.Made mince and potatoes for my tea and very nice it was too…everything was either reduced including mince or cheap veggies. So had broccoli, sprouts, carrots and mange tout.Pup was picked up and taken home straight away. Which was nice.Tidied my cupboards under the sink ! So a couple of things for charity bag. The rehoming of 3/4 tin of pink paint. I’ll drop it off tomorrow. A bag for the bin. And six tins of air freshener going to someone else! I inherited the contents of the cupboard under my mums sink! I have not used air freshener in the past 19 months! So it’s going out!Enjoyed watching the birds in the garden. Topped up the fat ball feeders. Thanks said the dog!Said dog has just been brushed before I hoovered and I could have knitted three new dogs with the hair that came off. I hate the January moult!Anyway floors hoovered and washed. I was going to hoover earlier and thought what’s the point when there’s 2 labradors! So it’s all done now!Filled my hot water bottles and brought them up to bed! Will go and hang washing and that’s me. Friday done!7
