Nope, not a fan either!
For yesterday,
Sloggus domesticus first thing, mainly bathrooms and as always the only pleasure is when it’s done.
Over to see my pony, gave her the day off after the hard work of previous day so just a groom today then I sat in her stable to listen to a podcast.
My nephew was the guest as he is involved in a social enterprise which helps mens mental health, he spoke very well and I think most of the points he made would be of help to anyone struggling with this issue, very proud Auntie but I’m ashamed to say my pony went to sleep.
Home, made a loaf and did a bit more housework, we had a few showers and the smell of the fresh rain coming through the windows was lovely.
Reading, am having small break from LP and Armand after devouring 8 books on the trot, picked up a Susan Hill from my tbr pile and as always with her am enjoying it very much.6 -
Well, here is & trying to post again - in the new frame, qui sait?
1. John Clare's 230th birthday yesterday, and his wonderful poem, Sudden Shower, was read on R3, perfect for us all right now.
'Black grows the southern sky, betokening rain,
And humming hive-bees homeward hurry bye:
They feel the change; so let us shun the grain,And take the broad road while our feet are dry.
Ay, there some dropples moistened on my face,
And pattered on my hat--tis coming nigh!
Let's look about, and find a sheltering place.
The little things around, like you and I,
Are hurrying through the grass to shun the shower.
Here stoops an ash-tree--hark! the wind gets high
But never mind; this ivy, for an hour
Rain as it may, will keep us dryly here
That little wren knows well his sheltering bower
Nor leaves his dry house though we come so near.'Dropples have certainly moistened &'s face over these last days, even now, up on The Gog Magogs. & always thinks of the artist, Richard Dadd, when Clare is mentioned and vice versa. Many parallels.
2. Oh, Ons Jabeur!!! Ace to win!!!! On consecutive days she has fought back and joyously won. After losing last year's Final, & wills her on. Def. not against Sabalenka, certainly not against Svitolina after her plucky victory over Rybikina, but now....
3. Well, that all went wrong. Rehomed the magic-from-nowhere tomatoes, 2 walnut saplings and 2 oak saplings with Director of Rugby on Tuesday night, then helped serve post-training munch. Amazing punchy cheesy/meaty burritos and salad. New caterers on trial. Lunchbox extras for various players.
4. 6½hrs notspot-delayed msg yesterday arvo, re: Doblo, saying new tank on. New buffers, due next week, but drivable again. Raced over, just in time, so grateful, as labour has been written off for this big work. Such incredible kindness continues.
5. Unplanned end of day at river, feeding 2 rtc loaves bought for purpose to 16 swans, with Marauding Sails Evil One manically herding and hounding the others. Talk about alpha male! & had arrived for CUBG Summer Sounds concert, starting 2030h, only to find changed times, 1815>1930h. Will know from now on.
6. Again, warm and happy recharge at midweek Communion this morning, with happy rpt stand-in vicar.
7. Today's No More Plants on church table included tray of sprouting leeks, 50p!!! Left £s instead. Taken, but split and repotted them in pass-on clumps now for several keen others. First handful of blueberries with yesterday's plain yogurt. And mhags! &'s first sweet pea has flowered. Very late, but yes! #
Highdays - that sounds alarming. Steady as she goes, OK?

Hello!I need to make my bed!Up extra early this morning. It is what it is! I just wake early. We were out walking at 4.20am!Went to old work to sit in a corner and do some work! With a cheese scone!Drove home the busy road way again! I’m back there again tomorrow morning so I think I’m going to pull up my big girl pants right up to my oxters and drive down that way! We’ll see!Bit of pottering around house and garden.Decided to cut back sweet peas. Got four bunches of flower posies and dropped them off at friends. Also cut grass.Had a work meeting which went well.
Home and had a stuffed pepper with yesterday leftovers in it. Just popped it in the airfryer.9 -

Pleasures for today (Thursday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) The BSD continues. 2 soft boiled eggs for lunch. Burgers with salad for tea. Smaller son had burgers in lovely brioche buns, salad, onion rings and home made chips!
3) Job Centre this morning with another guy. A lady (customer) turned round and looked at us and I thought, "please don't say anything nasty" like a mantra... She then asked if I had been before and said to the man, "Oh, your hair is lovely". Another customer had a child who kept squealing and a member of staff took her to do some colouring. So not a bad appointment at all.
4) Sainsburys afterwards for a pot of tea and some Arabic.
5) Vaguely tidied this afternoon and did a load of washing.
6) Weeded the garden and started to clear the path to the septic tank (not on my land). Another tree has fallen over and blocked the path so somehow I will have to deal with that before the emptying tanker arrives.
7) A sudden flurry of messages as there were no drivers available. I spent the evening driving and watching 4 guys in their football trials for the local team. I think about 25 men were being assessed. And (whisper it) 2 of my guys have been chosen to play in the team next Tuesday!8 -
goodness took me a while to find my way back - as others have said guess i'll get used to the new layout!
1) last night Mr G and I were going to join Dr M at 9 for a birthday drink (his suggestion). I was late, Mr G even later and caught me up, i said don't worry M will be even later. Sure enough...
2) a potential student I met in Singapore was over with his wife so I showed them round. They brought me a box of 4 small artisan gins and 4 mixers - yummy
3) we shared a pizza from the lovely pizza cafe so I had my packed lunch for tea
4) then straight to a talk for the 50th year celebration of the civic trust - very interesting
5) and there was wine and nibbles and i met up with a friend long retired so all in all a good dayMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

1 A top I got ages ago in a sale for holidays has quite literally vanished into thin air, I have looked as far as I know everywhere, but at this precise moment it does not want to be found!!!! I will continue the hunt, but we’re very bemused.
2 Leftovers into tomato soup was lunch, and dinner is fish with veg.
3 The whole house is hoovered and sort of feels up to date for 5 mins.
4 We went over to the in laws, to take them to an apt and spent the rest of the day in good company.
For today
1 We popped out to send a couple of parcels off, picked up 3 lots of 10p tomato packs in there.
2 Aldi for Cherries, they are helping promote some quality sleep.
3 Just batch cooked up a big bolognaise sauce using up the tomatoes, spaghetti bolognaise tonight, and then I’ll freeze the rest of the sauce to take away with us for chilli and pasta.
4 Spent an hour chopping down, up and bagging up excessive tree branches

For yesterday,
We got 5 out of 5 on the morning show quiz ☺️My pony had obviously embraced her inner hippo overnight and was more like a skewbald with dried on mud so that kept me busy for a bit! Did a bit of lunging and in-hand lateral work then she went back to her hay while her Mum had a chat with a pal.
Every day we share an apple, I cut it in half, take a quick bite, she has the rest and then repeat with the 2nd half. She closes her eyes and relishes every slurpy morsel.
Bit of gardening in the afternoon, veggie wise everything is still behind but the flowers are looking grand especially the new phlox that I thought had been lost but is now in bloom.
Made a cheese & onion flan so we had that for tea, afters was a naughty but nice mini Biscoffi ice-cream.9 -
Morning all.
Dry here at the moment but we are forecast rain all day and it's looking pretty grey outside.
Thank you for the beautiful poem, &, brought tears to my eyes as just the sort of poetry my dad used to love, will read some more JC today.
Some pleasures:
1) A pretty frustrating day yesterday with my hand preventing me from doing much. Took the dressings off and the pleasure is I was very, very lucky so some soreness is a small price to pay and all seems to be healing ok. Still break into a cold sweat when I realise what a near miss I had.
2) Finally my table/desk for the summerhouse is finished, been on order since 4th April! Am trying to ring to say we can pick it up rather than wait for them to sort delivery. Hope we can do that this morning, they close at lunchtime today.
3) No plans for the weekend. Plenty to do but after all the busyness and excitement last weekend a quiet one is very welcome.
4) 'Freezer surprise' last night was yummy lemon chicken, not sure yet what tonight's will be but determined to get our freezer stock down. Why do I always think I will remember what things are when I clearly don't?!
5) Some new library books picked up yesterday.
The rain's just started, hope it doesn't spoil your Friday plans.
