Going to try and have an early night! Sleeps been atrocious since the weekend. And up a few times with a doggy last night…for no obvious reason!Anyway we went a nice walk this morning, amongst the bluebells at local castle.Went as far as supermarket this afternoon and popped into work for five minutes.
Sat in garden for a wee while then the rain came on.Finally made the bench/box doodah! Much growling!Swept up around front porch. Moved some plants…nay have bought some sad very RTC lavender this afternoon.
Had a RTC curry meal for tea. Was rather nice. Any spicier would have been too spicy for me but managed it.9 -
Hello again on a lovely evening. The sun is still shining, the birds are still singing, the lilac tree is in full bloom. Lovely!
& - those cards made me giggle, I've often laughed out loud looking at cards in the shops, so clever and they must have great fun thinking them up. Love the one about the keys and the fridge - are they always funnier when we can recognise ourselves in them?!
Recent pleasures:
1) Nice day out at the very lovely garden centre yesterday though the weather didn't play ball and it absolutely poured down. Anyway, lunch was had and some 1:1 time with hubby was good.
2) Stocked up on nice fruit and veg to aid the diet endeavours. Am I just very lucky or are pineapples particularly good at the moment? We've had a run of really delicious ones.
3) Making plans for our wedding anniversary in a couple of weeks. We are away this weekend so not too bothered about staying away again so soon after but one of our favourite days out is planned with a long, leisurely lunch at our most favourite place. Just right.
4) Out and about with my bairn today looking at all things bi-fold and sliding doors for the back of the house. Huge purchase as they will be so big so important to get them right and so many options to choose from. The roof slates arrived yesterday so he has done a 'mock up'of them on a bench to get an idea of what they will look like. The whole of the back of the house will have a very different look from the tired old orangery affair that has been taken down. Much more fun doing big work than the drudgery of normal cleaning though my 10 minute plan is working well.
5) Did a massive stack of ironing for my boy this afternoon. He didn't ask but when I offered brought the biggest pile of stuff ever! Stuck a film on the telly, made a cuppa and battled through. Don't do much ironing these days for just the two of us, mainly just bedding, so was happy to do it for him, he has so much going on at the moment and does so much for us it was nice to be able to help out. The big piles of neatly pressed stuff at the end made me feel very virtuous.
Right, off to call hubby in to give me a hand with tea, definitely not in a cooking mood so he can prep some salad and I will chop a pineapple.
Enjoy your evening.7 -
The horrible car accident I saw on the way home from chess last night killed 3 people, including a 4 year old boy. It has made everyone very sad today. The road will be closed for 2 days while they investigate.
Pleasures for today (Thursday)
1) Not a bad sleep, once I actually fell asleep.
2) Off to floody city early on. Was chatting to my brother online and randomly my mum was also in town. Couldn't get hold of her for ages so did the charity shops (bought a replacement Queen CD for the one smaller son has worn out in my car). Also went to the cathedral. Caught up with mum who was having her lunch. I had a pot of tea with her. I don't think she listened to the end of a single sentence I uttered. She told me not to talk about English lessons as she disapproves (I hadn't talked about it at all) then went off on a monologue about how obvious the dark rings are round my eyes. Well, that'll be the severe anaemia that I haven't bothered to tell her about and the large amounts of melanin inherited from her, not my incredibly and surprisingly blonde dad. The sad thing was, I would count that as a successful and even pleasant chat.
3) Off to Waitrose for a pot of tea by myself and some Arabic practice.
4) The tickets for the football final were ready for collection! Off went smaller son and I with all our ID and they are now magnetted to the fridge. We were also successful in getting coach tickets.
5) Just had a mad flurry and tidied the garden, washed up, tidied, cleaned the stairs and cleaned then steamed the floor downstairs. Something a bit odd happened last night (pre the road accident) and I was musing about that and managed to steam the side of my ankle so then had to put my foot in the kitchen sink!

Those poor people Frith.
For yesterday,
Along the same lines, was in horsey town just putting shopping away when the Magpas air ambulance flew over, circled, then landed on the green opposite the emporium, apparently a medical emergency in town.
A mama duck crossing the road with her babies and bringing all village traffic to a halt.
Everything is now so green that it almost hurts the eyes, then there’s the candles on the horse chestnut trees, love spring.
Spent time at the yard, reciprocated from the previous day and helped my friend with her horse.
The bats were out at dusk, flying around the cottage catching their tea,8 -
Up early.
Decorator chap here at 8am
I went into town. Had a mooch round the charity shops and bought a pretty duck egg blue plate with bunnies on it And 3 books for a pound.
Nipped into M&S , got a few bits and pieces, balked at the price of a linen top…I’ll wait till someone hands it into a charity shop next year😆
Popped into my favourite down town cafe, had a chat with the owners. Then …after trying to unlock the same coloured car as mine…I was parked beside it! No wonder the door wouldn’t open.
Down to big supermarket and sorted out my phone tariff. Very nice chap helped me and I’m saving £5 a month and getting much more data etc than I was before.
Home. Decorator Chap went out for lunch. Then he was back. He’s done first coat in two rooms today and will finish on Monday and then hurrah I can start to get my house back in some semblance of order.I cut the grass.
I painted a wee chest of drawers.I sat on my garden sofa and started reading one of my new books. And I haven’t stopped reading (other than to do second coat of paint, chat to my sister who phoned me and chat to DD2 who also called me whilst out on the mail run)
It’s been glorious! Roastie Toastie…much to the horror of my sister when I told her it was so nice…she’d had to put her heating on!
Just had a RTC meal from M&S for dinner. Was very nice but wouldn’t pay full price!6 -
Hello again.
Very cold and grey here today, definitely not Roastie Toastie in our neck of the woods and just noticed our heating has come on too.
mhagster - you trying to unlock the wrong car reminded me of a time I actually did! Many years ago and I won't say what make of car but I unlocked my car, got the shopping and pushchair in the boot and only realised when I went to put my son in the car seat that there wasn't one but there was a car rug (remember them?) on the back seat that definitely wasn't mine. Was very bemused and just stood there for a minute or two before a very irate gentleman arrived wanting to know what I was doing in his car. Eeek! We found mine about five cars down and, yes, his key unlocked mine too. Maybe it wouldn't happen these days now we have fobs rather than keys. Most disconcerting!
Today's quiet pleasures:
1) A relaxed day at home as just too miserable to venture far, hope it warms up soon as we are away Sunday/Monday. Pottered about doing a bit of this and that and the day has been very enjoyable but has gone far too quickly.
2) Did a bit of (much needed) body maintenance stuff while I had time - face pack, hair pack, body scrub, pedicure and suchlike - oh, how pampered am I?! Nice squirt of perfume to finish off, just because I can!
3) Planted up my raspberry trees, very novel and already flowering, in some planters hubby made for me. He is a very talented chappie. Someone sent him photos of squirrels going in and out of the squirrel house he made them, they looked very at home but no evidence as yet that his hedgehog house is inhabited though we have feedback that his bird boxes have been.
4) Did meal prep for today and tomorrow and stuff ready in the freezer for quick meals for when we get back as we will be straight into a busy couple of days so won't get a chance to do any shopping for a few days. Lovely Cantonese lemon chicken and basmati rice for tea - new recipe and turned out very yummy.
5) Eldest grandson came in to ask me to check over his cv, think he is looking for a weekend/holiday job to save up for driving lessons as he is now of an age. Clever boy and, although I knew he had done quite a bit of voluntary work, it was very impressive to see all in one place what he actually has done over the years and the awards he has won. Proud grandma moment!
Right, off to reheat tea and a bit of telly watching tonight for a change.
Have a lovely evening.10 -
Pleasures for today (Friday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) House quite tidy. Washing machine is on. Will it stop raining for long enough to dry it?
3) Had hot rolls from the butchers in the village for lunch. Saw my mum and dad parked opposite buying their weekly papers so I said hello to them.
4) Went to the charity shops in canal town after lunch, Bought a U2 CD (I've only got a CD player in my ancient car) and that took my mind back about 30 years!
5) Arabic and a cup of tea in M and S. The dishwasher was broken so it was high drama with tea served in paper cups and milk in paper espresso cups.
6) Went home the back way (the road is still closed after the accident on Wednesday night, with the drivers of THREE cars arrested - racing) and passed bigger son cycling home from work! We stopped and said hello but all the cars were using the lanes so I had to drive on.
7) Stir fry and rice for tea.10
