Pleasures for yesterday
1. Journey up north was good, however the warning light came on again.2. Got a call from boss, got a temporary promotion for a few months.
3. DSil works at a garage & will look at my car after work tomorrow
4. Doggy travelled well in the car, she slept most of the day.
5. Managed to fit wheelchair & zimmer frame in boot of car, ds2 had all the back seat and bags went in the foot wells.10 -
Good morning. Very grey today but had some glorious sunny days recently so mustn't grumble.
Oh Frith! Oh dear!. I'm pleased smaller son always is at your house though! And fingers crossed for viewing!
Topsy T - such a lot to organise but it's brilliant you're managing to get DS out of the house. Will surely help in his recovery.
Highdays - Phew re DH Xray. And breathe!
Been a busy week but I think we're at the end of the busyness. Haircut (me), dentist(DH), then DH got a phone call from hospital. Could he come for a scan next day? We were supposed to be meeting friends but rearranged.
Went to hospital using Park and Ride as parking there is impossible. It stops next to our favourite fish and chip restaurant and when we got back it was tea time! Had to be done! A nice treat.
Popped to see DD yesterday for a birthday cuppa with her before she goes to Venice. This was planned for her 40th but then we had lockdown. So she's catching up!
Nothing planned today so I suppose I'd better do some housework. Sigh!
Happy Friday everyone

For yesterday
Into horsey town for provisions, we got a few treats for the weekend but had a gift voucher which helped.
Home, made a loaf and did the m/e banking ( payday today ) with surplus tucked away in savings.
Over to the yard, sorted missy out then helped friend who was moving one of her horses into a different stable, it’s such a friendly yard and we’ve settled in nicely.
Driving home and saw the buzzard for the first time in a few days, he sits in the branches of a tree facing the setting sun.
The clear evening sky with a crescent moon and planets Venus & Jupiter in a line.9 -
Oh dear we’d fallen off the first page! It’s not even near bedtime ( even by my early standards ) but just been such a lovely day.
Up super early for a bit of work. Quick doggy walk when it was just us and just a few of the birds were awake. The odd star sparkling between the clouds.Came out to the most amazing sunrise. It was simply stunning. Was on the phone to DD1 at the time.Home and hello doggy! Hung out washing which I’ve just brought in dry. First load that’s been fully dried. Wish it was my bedding but it was DD2.
Drove through the stunning countryside to meet up with niece and her cheeky boy! Once I’m through the town it’s just lovely ( not so much the in town bit, it was just trafficky!) nice catch up with them. And will see them again tomorrow.
Lovely drive home and hello doggy.Swept up in the garden. Admired the green shoots coming through. Then headed back out to other side of town for a work meeting. Girl I was meeting was running late but I set off anyway and had a wander in the charity shop. Bought a book and a pea jacket in an olive /sage green kind of colour…will need to slim down a bit but what a lovely incentive. And a nice thick, round wicker basket with a handle. Felt very 1950’s as I walked back to the car. Grabbed my bag for work and the new to me book which I then discovered I’d read ( grr) so I wrote to DD1 a whilst I waited.Very productive meeting. A follow up to one last year. It’s very good for me mentally to know that I can still go out and generate business/ be professional/ show that I know what I’m talking about. ( if that makes sense) My two big work days are just about ploughing relentlessly through the day to reach 4pm 😆 but my other side of work allows me to be creative and intelligent ( slightly 😆) anyway we were both pleased with the outcome!Crazy drive home. Lordy! It was like everyone was out in their cars on the road! Forgetting to use indicators!
Home and hello doggy. That’s me in now. Not going back out.I’d put some old plastic plant pots out at my garden wall with a free sign! So someone’s just knocked the door to ask if they could have them. Help yourself!11 -
Hello again, and we've whizzed round to Friday again! It's been glorious here today and our trees are budding up nicely.
Some pleasures:
1) Had rotten night tossing and turning after hubby's results, the pleasure was it was lovely to wake up and remember all will be ok eventhough he is still a bit waffy (in part, I think, the effects of the antibiotics but they're finished now).
2) He didn't manage much of a shopping trip earlier in the week (though he managed the coffee and cake ok) so lot of orders have arrived and he can take his pick at home and rest when he wants to if the trying on gets too tiring. Some nice things - men's clohes are so much easier to buy!
3) Sorting the itinerary for my next week birthday trip, lots of fun things and no work on my part - just as it should be!
4) Littlest grandson came running in to show me his stubborn wobbly tooth has finally fallen out - with a bit of help I think. He now has two front teeth at the top and two at the bottom with the surrounding four missing so is channelling a chipmunk look. Reminded the tooth fairy they will need some change, none of us really 'do' cash much these days.
5) Decided on my birthday with a 0 on the end pressie from me to me. Have found a space in the garden that will be ideal for a she shed so that is what I will be having. A retreat just for me where I can read, listen to music, do my mosaics, tapestries, knitting, painting and other assorted hobbies and leave them all out when I am done. We have a big summerhouse already but hubby and son have turned that into a storeroom/workshop so I have no hope of ever getting in there, at least not for the kind of retreat I have in mind! Off to look at some tomorrow, hubby will lay me a concrete base and tells me it is an easy job to get it wired up for electrics. Very excited!
Right, hubby is out at a meeting tonight so a peaceful evening in store, tea, feet up and a new magazine came in the post - excellent timing!
Enjoy your evening.9 -
Pleasures for today (Friday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Went to chess club in floody city. Played 2 games with V then 1 with T, which was ridiculous as he plays against other clubs in competitions!
3) Went to my brother's afterwards to pick up 2 rabbits that he ferreted earlier in the day. They are now in the freezer.
4) Bigger son popped in.
5) Made meatballs and hm tomato sauce for tea. We had a couple of pancakes later on.
6) Went to Wildlife Club in our village hall, which was about swifts.11 -
1. Straight off, Frith, met chap yesterday whose discussions re: swift boxes in one of our churches had stalled with Vicar's retirement. Several to and fro ems via & have things underway again. Good news.
2. Watched U20 international rugby on phone earlier. Learnt it's a shadow 6N tournament and especially enjoyed France v Scotland. Mhags......another day. World Cup skates are definitely on pour Les Bleus! & still needs to shovel Aotearoa's useless Foster onto some other country, or my beloved ABs will have no chance.
3. Yes, a glorious farewell to a wonderful gentleman became an all-time old-style pleasure, matching his long, productive life of 94 years. So it was with yesterday's funeral. Perfect eulogy, laughter, surprises, joy and generosity. & paths crossed in several ways with many peeps, all so good.
New acquaintances made. A very special day, as befitted D.A.R. - fyi, Lainey and DundeeDoll.🙂
4. Happycas, you wrote 'Nothing planned today so I suppose I'd better do some housework. Sigh!'
Definitely time to wheel out this & fave:
'My idea of housework is to sweep the room with a glance.'😁😇🥰
5. Managed it all👏 Rugby Preview 163 out in good time this morning, including &'s Raffle Harridan-ess's Report of record fundraising. Wonderful generosity. Further, 🦚🏉's newest International player steps out tomorrow:
"Katie Dening. England Women's Deaf XV v Jamaica, 12pm kick-off. Birmingham Moseley."
She's a lovely young woman.

For yesterday,
Capt S on holiday so he helped me turn the mattress which is difficult one person job, bed changed as well.
House meeting and we are a bit late on this but decisions made on what we are going to grow in the planters this year and some seeds ordered.
Start of birthday weekend celebrations and we walked down to the pub in village for lunch, I had venison ragu with truffle gnocchi which tasted as good as it sounds. No pud but slice of chocolate cake later with a cup of tea.
It was a cold afternoon so we stayed in and watched Edie, a sweet film starring the indomitable Sheila Hancock who apparently trekked up the mountain in real life.
A full card of Yahtzee games, he beat me by just 40 points but forgiven…..I suppose!9 -
RL going slightly mad, largely in a good way.Frith - you have to go get parcels too? The undocumented aspects of Joyful Motherhood, eh? (there are too many Mother & baby books & not enough "Motherhood, until You Die" books) Hugely impressed at you playing chess in a second language, no matter win loose or draw! Hoping the car injuries heal soon. Hurrah family & mac & cheese with bonus veg & Lo gammon sounds utterly delicious! A Viewer! If the plates & bowls need not match anything, have fun in the charity shops building a harlequin set? Ferreted rabbits now in freezer. Brotherly love takes many forms.DundeeDoll - down with frogs! Just getting an appointment with a bank is almost as hard as one with a GP. A Falstaff apple - they'll bless you as its one of the easiest to look after as well as delicious! All thinsulate is MS - staying warm is blinking expensive. Dog walker returned boys muddy? Ah well.topsyturphy - you are doing Brilliantly. Is there any emotional support via work you could plug DS2 into? If he enjoys garden centres, can he nudged towards getting seeds started & the raw hope thereof? The Addenbrookes team are wonderful people - do please ask them about support available? Oh yes. Loading & unloading wheelchairs. Their weight is all too often in inverse proportion to their comfort. Has the Red Cross anything helpful? Temporary promotion? Excellent - you absolutely merit this & they recognise you are capable as well as gruesome busy.LaineyT - clear skies & planet spotting is a special pleasure, all the more so if you are dressed for it. Oh gosh lungeing when out of practice & yes, that long-nosed big-lashed contrition! (OK some of this weekend will be catching up on VCM & Only Connect!) Yes inded, council meetings are almnost funny until you realise these idiots Will be making decisions that you have a solid interest in. I love rain, I just rub the car down & count plants I don't have to water. I do see rain means mud though & a grey will seize opportuinities. It was Venus & Jupiter in a line? Excellent, I guessed right! Capt S helped turn the mattress - my affectionate respects! Happy Birthday Weekend!Happycas - Anne Cleeves Shetland series? Right, will ask son to ask around at work to see who has kindle copies or is decluttering... Ye gods scan next day - well, if they've a slot, peace of mind rather than wait.sidneysmum - welcome! awed at your council gym membership & well done getting all your moneysworth!Purple kitten - I do love how the love & care shines through. I find supermarket-own wraps have a shorter life than some brandname ones, but I then balance how soon are we planning to eat these.. Looking at curtains for ideas - is That where to go? Right, adds Dunelm for plans. Excellent timing at Lidl!mhagster - delighted d'Artagnan will be fencing for you even if not this week & yowch to wallet. Oh gods yes all the things awaiting you after a couple of full days at work! Just hurrah daffodils. Planting, & then retreating into the warmth? Eaves & gutters cleared is a large peace of mind pleasure! Huge confidence in your professionalism & grin at your 1950s self & basket!VJsmum - that "we weren't as lost as we thought" is a wonderful pleasure!Happycas - yes, we've quietly dropped fish finger sandiwches from the menu & put breaded fish pieces with assorted frozen veg in instead as this "cost of living crisis has pushed up costs of food, transport and petrol like never before". Ace score at M&S Outlet!BoP - I hope you never have to contemplate the morself of fish held out for sale as a fish finger. Griff's fun. Happy Birthday, Jenny! Enjoy the coarse?ampersand - Hugely impressed at £2K in donations. The awe love & repect you are held in clinking into the club coffers - they are hugely fortunate! All strength as you forgo delights for Lent. A really good funeral is a special parting pleasure. Holding NZ in my heart & indeed, please, not locusts.Highdays - rousing hallelujahs on the clear X ray! A "she shed" - what a smashing gift, but awww finding coins for the tooth fairy!OS pleasures recentlyA couple of Christmases ago Youngest gave me a “Gamers keyboard” with rainbow LEDs. Slightly to his surprise, I loved it - a nice change from work etc. So when my family zoom headset got beyond dilapidated, I bought a “gamer” headset (comfortable, affordable, thousands of units sold, happy reviews etc) & Youngest is “what have I done?”. He seems reassured I still drink tea.Online chat about tax benefits versus cost of matrimony - a bit of Googling suggested change from £150 for Registrar’s paperwork, whereas cost of just getting shotgun licence about ~£90 let alone cabinet, ammo, or indeed gun. Colleague still planning on taking the plunge but catering in the hands of local chippy.Trying to get the work headset to ring - took a bite of chocolate & yes! Teams lit up like a Christmas tree & I now have the report template I need, and another colleague was gently chivvied towards the boffins.New personal fancy headset Would Not Work for family zoom, so wore two others plaited to get sound & speech. Then unplugged everything & tried again, testing it by having the radio chat to a zoom call while I joined the call on my phone on another floor. Desperate times, But it now Works! Apart from the led lights about which youngest is so not desolated!Kitt, the mango on the windowsill, has achieved leaves! Yes, you can get a mango to germinate in Lancashire! Without having the heating in at tropical levels, or indeed often at all. I am so chuffed, I am near dancing. Sibling Keith is thriving in the ziploc in a darkened box (also unheated but much better insulated) & I will be examining my windowsill to see if I can have two mango seedlings reaching up towards the cool grey spring! (Names as Keitt variant mango, imported from South Africa.)Argh Mother’s Day promotions. A handful of seeds, a heap of pots, a sack of compost - these yes please, tangible expressions of hope. Bent card & crumbs in bed? So much less so. Still, satisfying to look at photo mugs & think 'nope!'.Hiraeth, saudade - the deep inevitable rightness of then, that & alas. Somehow saudade seems less cheeky than hiraeth as I’m English but part raised on Wales hills, in Welsh weather. The cottage is still standing & has been improved on, to become a family home all year round, but for decades we kept the stone walls standing & we’re grateful for them.Oh the irony. I go to more pubs for work than I do for my own purposes. Still, a night out in good company is fun even if we have no intention of trying their pub quiz.Intrigued by Queen Victoria & her merry widowhood - being Queen helped, it seems. She was unquestionably bereaved, but she went on, in her way.Booking up on the difference between braising & jugging. Language fascinates me, and I'm quite keen on food too.Yikes! "What Was that gruaffling noise?!" "the pipes" "Oh. Right. Thank you. Carry on" (gods I need tea! And when did I default to OfficerSpeak when relieved? I know we have guests due & thus must moderate my language lest we shock the unwary, but I just startled Myself!)Gods Middleson looks like something from Dr.Who with respirator mask in place - "there's a lot of cleaning products in the bathroom at the minute". (Last I looked, so was his duvet cover - draped on the stepladder to dry. Deep calming breath (in another room), not my problem but a decade keeping an ear open means odd noises are clearly heard.)Gazing on my 'office' windowsill and enjoying the spectacle of lemon and mango leaves, and the definitely lengthening oak roots.Riffling through my saved seed tin "citrus seeds ? orange" - hm, I think I may research the how & the odds for this weekend's lets get muddy project. Although I see Medjoul in there too. Choices, choices...Health strength love & courage to all have need, along with justice, courtesy, & compassion as we go into Lent.10

Gah! Need to follow on a DFV post! 😆😆
well today has been such a nice day.Up very early so decided to roll with it and we were at the beach just after sunrise. Beautiful drive down. Countryside was covered in frost and very pretty and roads very quiet.Tide was way out and the sunrise was reflected on the sea and the island and it was just stunning. The sea was so still and it was just us and the seabirds. I needed the calm.
Good drive back home.DD2 was taking my great niece out for the day and great nephew was supposed to be coming here but he had a lie in and stayed home so niece and I went out for coffee. To my favourite place. Was nice just the two of us having a catch up. As much as I adore my wee chap he’s a constant chatterer so it was nice for his mummy to have some time with her auntie! We went a lovely walk after and it was just filled profusely with snowdrops. And daffodils will be next!As we were driving out of country estate we saw a kestrel swoop down in front of us and land on the fence. Wow!Home and hello doggy. Second load of washing hung out. Which whilst not completely dry was dryer. First load out was dry. There was enough of a breeze to make it worth while. It’s been a lovely bright day though cold. Then I started a new book and have been ploughing through it. So I’ve came upstairs to read ( which will probably mean I’ll fall asleep 😆)
Alarm set for early o’clock. Sigh😆
it’s been a good day.11
