For yesterday,
Beloved had the day off so he came with me to do the food shop, first time in yonks and he was aghast at price rises, we used his card which had a £8 off voucher attached so that helped.
We have been holding off on Happy Valley but with bits & pieces being said on social media we binge watched the first 3 episodes, oh my!
Over to see horse, the ground is rock hard and rutted so horses were in although she had had an hour in the lunge pen for fresh air and the chance to roll etc, apparently she was enthralled by the antics of the resident Shetland.
Easy tea of baked mackerel fillets with SF veg & noodles.
Uni Challenge then the 4th episode of HV, all caught up now and waiting for Sunday!9 -
Morning all:
Another cold and frosty one, but still warm in bed at the moment.
Good tv watching: Happy Valley (don’t want it to end) and Bank of Dave.
Tennis 🎾 watching but mainly in the background as I’m biting my annual frog, my son’s year end accounts and tax return - nightmare ☹️
Friends round last night for regular Chinese takeaway, Prosecco and chat. Great evening as usual. 2 of us getting very excited as we are due to get our long awaited state pensions in the next 2 months, 3rd Friend is older so already gets hers.
Think I’ll have to bank one as frog above is still there.
Have a great Tuesday everyone.
PS glad your son is home Topsy and wish him a good recovery, that was me 6 years ago 😊

mhagster - the HWB is an easily underrated pleasure!Frith - delighted your english language teaching has book & bathroom repair bonuses!VJsmum - I am often startled how those we love don't beleieve us when concrete is involved.DundeeDoll - blimey education comes with some serious food bonuses! Well done you planning ahead.topsyturphy - he has a zimmer - already (um, roughly how old is he?) - well done you! & a wheelchair coming. You escaped with dogs - hurrah!villagelife - a home-made lasagne in the freezer is special pleasure.LaineyT - it does help to share the horror, sometimes. Aww, Shetland antics.PaulieHerts - all strength with the frog & why are you stuck with son's accounts? Hurrah soon to get state pension!OS PleasuresSurprisingly fun day at work. These 10 minute "show & sell" gigs have the merit of being short, but unless it's firmly well organised, what we think is 10 minutes starts later than the organisers' plans. Still, it was fun and I learned the new PowerPoint & the script pretty quickly so by the third iteration I was starting the show & managing a handover to our colleague then moving the slides on for him!Cold pizza slices for lunch - just what I was longing for!More show & tell then strip down the kit & get it back in the box & back in the cupboards & Head out into the fresh air. (Local table sent me home with two double choc chip cookies 'for my sons' - who are happily munching.)One of my favourite bass singers, Edward Randell, turns out to have been in a Harry Potter film. What he did as a child has me utterly unfussed - his voice is just glorious.Middleson is trying to get us to drink 6 litres of pepsi max so he can use the 3L bottles as floats on a kayak outrigger. I am very proud of his engineering, but I can't put away that much of any fizzy pop! (And I worry the outrigger will tempt him to paddle beyond his competence, but I'm fairly sure he's smart enough to get out of rough water.)Health Strength Love & Courage to all as have need, & may we all stay warm enough!8

Hi everyone.
Busy day so just dropping in while I have a moment to myself, who knew retirement could be so manic?!
Frith - concerned for you and sorry you are in a 'down' place. Sometimes you just have to give in and go with the flow for a bit. I know from reading your posts, that if there was something that needed to be done urgently you would rise to the occasion and sort it admirably so, if you can, a bit of a mosey in the slow lane might be just what you need.
topsyturphy - good that you are getting support and hope the hospital appointment went ok today.
Some pleasures:
1) Tried on 'The Dress' with various trimmings (haha, I sound like the Christmas turkey) and I'm sorry to say it looks just the biz. My hat was a frivolous and costly purchase when my mum and I went a bit daft in a very select shop a couple of years ago. I love hats and it is a beauty. The very posh shoes and bag I splashed out on for my son's wedding several years ago and have hardly worn since - but are so beautiful I sometimes get them out just to admire them - go perfectly, as does some quite big and bold costume jewellery. It has to work for a July wedding - could be hot, could be cold - and needs to go from the day do to the evening do and cover up my crinkly upper arms and it's just perfect. It looks great, even hubby agreed, so a bit of attitude and I will go to the ball looking a million dollars in my £18 supermarket frock and why not??!
2) Cleaning corners and paintwork, washing windows, etc. in the big house today ready for son to arrive back early Thursday morning. Somehow cleaning someone else's house is so much more fun than cleaning your own and the pleasure is you can certainly tell where we have been and that, although he's had a fab time and the peace and quiet here has been very welcome, I'm looking forward to having him home safe and sound.
3) Back in the little house - well, the ground floor penthouse that we call home - and I'm thrilled with my new chairs now we've got the second one and they are 'dressed' with throws and cushions (minimal rarely works in my life!). Make me smile as they are just right.
4) Been for my hair cut, not a pleasure as I don't enjoy trips to the hairdresser but she's done it really nicely and it looks and feels so much better. The pleasure was we compared diaries and managed to book all my appointments for the year around our various trips and The Wedding and her many holidays. Won't need to do that again until 2014. Phew!
5) The diet is (already) on hold as I found half a jar of mincemeat loitering in the back of the fridge so made a mincemeat and apple crumble. If anyone tried the mince pie recipe I handed on with gay abandon, I have to say that the shortbreaddy (?) pastry mixture also makes the most delish crumble. As the diet is out the window today, while we were out gadding I bought a carton of cream to go with it and then lashed out on some scrummy cranberry, cashew and raisin bread so a very easy tea on a busy day with leftover Christmas delicacies from the freezer and a bit of salad as a token nod to the diet. Will enjoy whilst catching up on Monday's quiz shows.
So, there we are. As usual, I've yattered on so I'll leave you in peace. Have a good evening all.

Hello. Bedtime for me.Up early as usual.Went as far as supermarket this morning. Went early and it was nice and quiet. Then home and pottered around. Hoovered. Brushed dog…hoovered some more.Made a half batch of tablet.Had a snoozette. It’s been a while.
Made a very nice tea. Friends over as usual. We had an early Burns Supper. With haggis truffles to start with a salad. Then haggis neeps and tatties and the most amazing and delicious pudding! I’d crushed digestive biscuits and melted butter as a base. Whipped cream with some condensed milk leftover from tablet making. Added raspberries and tablet and it was so tasty! Not for everyday eating but delicious! I don’t like haggis so had a scotch pie instead.Much chatter and laughter…we were doubled over at the end there with friend’s daughter looking bemused! Which made it even funnier 😆8 -
1. My new keyboard and mouse arrived at work. They were suggested in September! The mouse will take some getting used to but will help my hands. Manager told me mid afternoon that she had them since Friday.
2. I wasn't rude to patients father who wanted to complain about me. They arrived late. I said I would see when I could but they would have to wait and it may be gone 5. I saw them at 4.20 around 50 minutes after they arrived and he is complaining about the wait.
3. Left work more or less on time.
4. Glass of wine with tea.
5. Exercises done to help my back.9
